I can only get this working for hours at a time. Each time I get it working, AT&T stops it. If i pop my sim, put it in a different phone, send an MMS, pop back to the iPhone, it works for a few hours but then it eventually dies off.

Sounds like its really worth your time.

I gave this a try yesterday afternoon. MMS worked initially, but after 2 hours it stopped.

I don't even know why I tried, I'm not desperate for MMS so badly, I guess I was just bored. I restored my iPhone and set my text plan back, so I"m just going to wait on AT&T on this.

Before I waste an afternoon attempting this, I'd like to get a better idea of the current success rate. If anyone has been successful (or not), would you mind putting your vote into the poll? [link]

Just read through these posts and you'll see that generally it didn't work. The OP states that for the ones who it didn't work, it was because they "messed up" a setting. I highly doubt that. But feel free to try this and "maybe" have MMS for a few hours. ;)

In Detail Steps

It does work you just need to follow the steps to the T. I am going to post the steps in DETAIL to make sure you guys do it right. I just sent an mms this morning and still working. The reason I say people are doing a step wrong is because I have done it for 5 people with 5 different ATT accounts and it hasnt stopped working for them. Ok so Ill post the steps now in detail and also edit thefirst thread with these steps.

1. Update the carrier file on your iphone then reboot your iphone. Once iphone reboot update carrier file again and remove sim.

2. Setting-General-Network-Cellular Data AND ENTER ON ALL FIELDS *****except first line in voicemail enter "acds.voicemail"****
APN: wap.cingular
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (CAPS
Password: CINGULAR1 (CAPS)
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]
HIT the home button then leave iphone alone DO NOT REBOOT!!!!

3. insert sim into an mms capable att phone. Make a 1 minute phone call (No need to log into ATT or call ATT).

4. Go to https://mymedianet.wireless.att.com/ (on your computer) and register for media net while sim is in mms capable phone if it give you an error saying that phone is not capable of media make another phone call until it lets you register it. It will tell you that a text was sent to that phone with a 4 digit pin and it will ask you for the pin. You will receive a text with the pin enter the pin on your computer then hit continue. It will ask you for an email if its the first time you register if it does enter your email then hit continue. After that send a picture (mms) from the non iphone.

5. Log into ATT and under your number if you still see an iphone manually switch it to the mms capable phone. Go to features and change it to a regular text plan not an iphone text plan. (If you currently have family iphone text you will have to change it to the 1500 text plan then change it to unlimited family text (not iphone text plan)
***Your account must say under features "Messaging Unlimited for Families - Shared" (NOT Iphone Text)

6.Remove SIM from non iphone and insert it into the iphone. DO NOT REBOOT IPHONE and also DO NOT GO INTO CELLULAR DATA SETTING. You will now have MMS on your iphone and it wont stop working unless you mess with setting or reboot phone.

TRY THIS AND POST YOUR RESULTS PLEASE

I got the carrier file on the phone when I first synced at home, however then I had an issue and did a restore, now I can't load on the carrier file, it is grey'ed out and won't let me select it. Can anyone help with this?? oh I'm using a mac to do all this. Thanks.

Following these steps, mine worked yesterday as long as I could remember. Waking up this morning, I can no longer send MMS. This is dumb I'm just going to quit trying.

Good call. We waited what, 2 years for this already? What's a few more months to have it working properly? To people who value their time this is just a total waste. After all aside from the "Does this work ZOMG!!!!" MMS message, how many do you really send out on a daily basis?

as for posting my results, I'd like to say I've tried three times, the first time it worked for ten minutes, but I realized I had messed something up so I tried again and it worked for about 2 hours, then I decided to try here and it's been working since yesterday..about 14 hours

As for why do I want MMS so badly? idk

Well I'm 19 years old, so the majority of my friends do not have iPhones. They're simply too expensive. They do send out picture messages quite often. It's a fun thing to do. I can't receive them though without going onto that site to see them. Quite a pain. If I want to reply I have to go find their number and append the picture messaging email address onto it. MMS will be a welcome addition.

I mean if I could have it now, that'd be great. I've only got it to work twice though, once on my 3G for about a half hour, and for about half a day on my 3GS with this procedure.

I can wait, but if we are able to get it working and then it shuts off, what kind of workaround fix does AT&T really have to implement to get it to work? :-\

The reason it is being shutoff for you, I believe, is that AT&T is running sweeps to prevent people from implementing MMS before they officially put it out. The OP would say you "messed up".

still working flawlessly :)

Congrats! That makes two, maybe three out of all the people that've talked about doing it on here. Another thread has 6 out of 34 but the 6 may have stopped working for all we know. The point is, yours may work now, but that's just because AT&T hasn't swept your account yet. Why do you think all these others have their MMS shutoff all of a sudden? You've just been lucky, I'd guess.

Make that four...I think the OP may be right?

I wonder if when AT&T releases MMS if all the people who have hacked their phones and have had MMS turned back off from their account will have an issue.
