Now if they will just add the function to notify you when the other person has arrived or left a certain location repeatedly, and not just a once time thing. I don't want to have to setup the notify me everyday for the same arrival and departure location.

I'm pretty sure being able to notify the other person when you leave or arrive at a location is a new feature. Have always been able to set up a notification when they leave/arrive....but not notify them when I leave/arrive....right?!

no, I was able to that before, but they cleaned up the UI so it's easy to find. you previously had to go into the "Me" option then add your follower manually to be notified when you arrive/leave a location.

I really like the new interface, I hope that notifications work as they are supposed to... for some reason on the iPhone4, I never get notification from my kid when they arrive or leave a location consistently, sometimes it works, others it does not :-/ I'll update them to the new FindMyFriends and post back.

HOLY $(*@ FINALLY!

Even though no one ever wants to add me because they think it's creepy :(

Or.. they think I'm creepy!?

EDIT: Just played with it. Very nice!

EDITx2: Being able to notify someone that you've left or arrived is, I believe, a new feature.

What are you wearing? Can you add me?

How's that for creepy? :D

This feature was in the iOS 6 beta and deliberately removed. The world just isn't ready yet- too many prudes complaining it was too creepy and making up silly 'privacy scandal of the week' type stories (even though it told you it was doing it and could easily be turned off).

Finally...

Hopefully it fixes the issue where it has to be open in the background to work.

I understand the allure this app has for specific needs, like when you are with friends at a concert or Disney World and need to find each other quickly.

However, how do people get away with running their location service all day and not killing their battery life??

Yes that would be a new feature, I do not recall ever being able to choose to notify followers when I arrived/left, they would have to do that themselves on their app.

No, it's been there for as long as I can remember — I've had several recurring notifications set up for a while now to let my housemates know when I'm home — but it was kinda buried in the "Me" section of the app. It's more accessible now, although the tradeoff is that it's more effort to set up the same notification to be sent to multiple people. Can anyone see an easier way to do this, other than going into each of your friends' profiles and adding the notifications one-at-a-time? EDIT: Nevermind, the "Me" section is also there with the same options.

There is also a new feature — you can now see people who are tracking you, even if you are not tracking them. This fixes a problem whereby if someone removes you from *their* list, you're unable to remove them from yours. So even though you can't track them, they could still track you (and there was no way to stop them)!

It's also nice that the location spots are now tiny pictures of your contacts, so you can see at a glance who is who without tapping on them.

When I click me and share my location, it still displays every iPhone and iPad I have ever owned!!!

How do I remove them? They are not in my “find my iPhone account"

I don't know, I have the old app and I can't find any "add your follower manually" ability. There just isn't a notify them. Please post a screen capture if you have that on the old version (proof).

Edit: I was wrong. Notifying others was through the 'Me' tab, and you had to enter their address.

just swipe to the left, then choose delete. I just did it myself. Just make sure your finger is only on that bar that the phone is listed on. It's easy to "fat finger" the swipe therefore not showing up the "Delete" option.

I never minded the skeuomorphic stuff, although I like iOS7 better. But this app was one of the silliest: it's not imitating ANY real thing or function. A calendar, clock, or notepad make a little sense (and GarageBand makes lots of sense). This one never did.

I suppose some kind of NORAD/radar thing would have at least made a little sense. Stitching? Why? It didn't even quite match the Address Book, if that was somehow intended.

Problem solved!

The little round person-pins look great.

Wow, I have no idea. It'd be good to have this function though.

Apple's background location API is adaptive, meaning that the accuracy is only ever as good as required by apps that are *already* running. So, for example, if all you have is a cellular signal, then it will only track at cell-tower accuracy — which means your battery isn't wasted by constant GPS tracking.

Similarly, if you get in range of a WiFi hotspot, then it will track at greater accuracy (assuming that the hotspot is in Apple's location database), again without any increase in battery usage.

The battery-draining GPS-level accuracy is only ever used if you open the Find My Friends app, or if you open another app that uses GPS (e.g.: Maps).

In practice it works great, and I haven't noticed a significant drop in battery despite having FMF enabled all the time.

I'm just wondering, does anyone have a good explanation for why all of apple's redesigned apps require iOS 7?

Because they want users to upgrade to iOS 7. It also keeps the code cleaner as you don't have to deal with multiple iOS versions.

Aha, I didn't know that! Wonderful, and very clever. If I had any friends, I would love to use it

How do I add a profile pic? For some weird reason it's not using the profile pic I have in my contacts list.

I can't figure it out either. I tried signing out and back in, but it just won't register my pic.

Edit: Figured it out. Make sure the email address you use for find my friends is listed under your contact. My find my friends is an @mac, but I only had the @icloud in my contact. It didn't register it. As soon as I switched it, it worked. It has to match perfectly, meaning caps and lowercase have to match your contact.

But they still don't allow you to share location for multiple devices under the same apple id. WTH Apple!!!!!!!

Well this app is for finding *people*, not devices. A person is only ever in one place at one time.

FMF does let you switch between devices (i.e.: so you can set it to whichever device you have with you at the moment), so I don't see the problem…?

If you want to track all your devices, then that's what the Find My iPhone app is for.
