I think it's funny how most people simply default to (or knee jerk reaction) is that this is "creppy" or "i don't want my gf/bf to follow me", without thinking twice about the possible purpose of application like this.

In my case, I work 100 miles away, I spend one and half hours on the high way every day (one way). This app gives my wife a peace of mind knowing that I'm on my way back or still "moving", and was not one of the 19 cars that was involved in the accident last week which resulted in two death.

Laugh all you want, but I think it's sad people are no longer able to think in other people's situation.

Yeah, because my one statement totally means I can't think about other peoples' perspectives.

I get it, FMF is useful in your case.

this is only good for parents to track under 18yo kids. other than that... heck no for privacy and security. i don't need to know where everyone about nor do I want others to know.

I believe the PHONE feature is still working on the smartphone for calling IF you didn't involve in the accident. if you were in the accident and your wife sees on the app that you were at that location...don't you think she would CALL you?

The keyword there in all of that being 'I'. That's good for you and you can use or not use it as you see fit. None of that matters to anyone else who has their own uses and reasons for it.

So…if his wife calls him, but he doesn't answer (because, y'know, he's driving home and paying attention to the road), then she gets scared for no good reason? Whereas with FMF she can check on his progress without distracting him. Win-win!

this app's biggest drawback

this app's biggest drawback is the requirement to sign in evert time i open.
SO ANNOYING !!

I'm really happy that Meg is at school right now like she should be!

Does anyone actually use this?

My family uses it while we are on vacations so that if we get split up we can find each other. I can't imagine constantly broadcasting where I am to everyone. My mother-in-law has her location broadcasting away...she's left it on from our last Vacay. Oh well.

Is there a way to link the contact information to the people in your address book? Whenever I add someone it just asks me for their email address and doesn't offer me the suggestions in my address book.

If I understand what you're asking, all you have to do is make sure that the e-mail address that they use for Find My Friends is saved as an e-mail address under the contact information you have stored in your address book for them. That way it links the person's name and all over contact information you have for them to their Find My Friends profile in your app.

I hate to be a negative nancy, and I've only used it once, but...

Keynote Remote?

So glad that everything is uniform again! The Jony Ive version of iOS is a night and day difference compared to the Scott Forstall version. Such a massive improvement!

I'm pretty sure being able to notify the other person when you leave or arrive at a location is a new feature. Have always been able to set up a notification when they leave/arrive....but not notify them when I leave/arrive....right?!

Yes. That is a new feature. So many technology blogs said there didn't appear to be any new features, but if you poke around a little bit that one is pretty obvious.

This, it's the only Apple iOS app that has yet to be updated.
**cough cough** 2andahalfyears **cough cough**
But, and I just found this out today, the app is free now. Downloaded to my phone to play around with it, works great for the new OS X Keynote app.

Actually, I just noticed this "error". I do have all my contacts appropriately linked with the email addresses in "Find My Friends", however as the application isn't supposed to list addresses in contacts but rather their approximate current location, at "home" or "work" the address may differ (and in most times often does).

For example, in New York City and Chicago, my friends are home but the application lists their current address as a block away, or two addresses away.

I don't get why this app doesn't have more social options and settings. I'd like to add who I want from my iOS Contact list or FaceBook list automatically or manually in bulk and set all of them for temporary or permanent permissions with no time limitations. Or if my friends let me I can look them up anytime without their permission. Receive notifications if we're in the same vicinity. If we click a friend it opens up iMessage or FaceTime etc. Just open the whole thing up and let us choose what privacy settings to use.

Maybe I'm missing something. Can you do any of this stuff?

Stalker app

So my family and I are stalking each other when we use the app to let each of us know where we are at so we can a better idea when we will be at a certain place.

Not only that but it easily allows us to meet up with each other. Not to long ago I was going to a game with some friends and was meeting them somewhere so we can all go in the same car. All I had to do was open the app and get directions to where they were.

Thanks for letting me know that we are stalking each other...

You what??

Perhaps people find you creepy because you say things like "Just played with it." :)

(I jest of course so i hope no one takes offense)

HOLY $(*@ FINALLY!

Even though no one ever wants to add me because they think it's creepy :(

Or.. they think I'm creepy!?

EDIT: Just played with it. Very nice!

EDITx2: Being able to notify someone that you've left or arrived is, I believe, a new feature.

This may be a dumb question but can anyone change the map type? Mine is on satellite view and I can't find where to change it to a normal map.

Tap on a friend to view their location, then tap More… They made some decent changes to the app to make a few things more intuitive (like the notification feature that people keep mistakenly saying is new), but this one almost seems like a regression.

Also, looks like someone forgot to update the website.

This iOS 7 simply just cannot grow on me. Everyone was saying, give it time and it will happen, but it doesn't. I hate it and all its simplistic flat plainness. :(
