The official report I heard was that they stuck too big a battery and that the case was pinching a cable that caused the fire. The thought therefore was to replace it with a smaller battery that would not have the pinch issue. I can only assume that they did not replace with a small enough battery or did a shoddy job of it.

Too big a battery, too hot a processor, no way to cool off bc of waterproofing. I'm sure the Pixel is not waterproof for that reason.

I almost feel bad for Samsung.

Why say almost? I do feel bad for them, I used to have Galaxy S2 and S4 Mini, both great phones. Samsung is a great company and I do not wish them any bad luck whatsoever. Sure they copied a few things from Apple, but it's vice versa.

I currently have iPhone SE, used to have iPhone 6 and before that iPhone 5. For me it has always been between Apple and Samsung, they are the best two mobile companies out there by far...

THIS will forever tarnish the Samsung brand and could not have come at a better time for Apple.

I really don't think so. As long as Samsung makes their next phone flashy (no pun intended) and packed with features plus a great camera people have short memories. Your typical flagship Android phone remains popular for only a few months at a time anyways.

Soon the Galaxy Note 7 will be banned from being taken on planes in the United States. Airlines aren't going to have any level of tolerance for a device that literally explodes.
Since it's not actually you know, exploding, I think your comment is ridiculous.

I wouldn't want this type of PR on anyone. Of all the Android devices, theirs have previously been the best by far.
I won't gloat or anything childish like that because it's not just a dangerous situation, but could really hurt Samsung. Like them or not, they provide Apple with a lot of components. No one wants this , and god forbid this happens to Apple as iPhone is their bread and butter product.

Lol, so you think that someone that wanted to "fake" a Samsung fire 1st bought one before the danger was announced, then got a replacement, then staged their clever "fake" fire in front of a plane full of people??
Wow.
You conspiracy theorists are off the chain!! It's like you think the characters from a Mission Impossible movie are out to frame Samsung, lol.
It's no conspiracy theory that people like fame, notoriety, and sometimes money.

I have my opinion / beliefs and clearly they conflict with yours, so let's just leave it at that.

Idk. I call bs. I am willing to bet the owner is either mistaken or misleading authorities on the status of his "replacement" phone. I think someone got zealous and took a non-replaced phone on the plane and then covered their butts by stating it was one of the new ones.

I disagree with this. Once your brand gets associated with something extremely negative, it sticks. Me and my girlfriend were discussing it today. You couldn't give us a Galaxy Note 7 for free. Their washing machines are blowing up too. I'm not sure I would buy anything else Samsung going forward and I actually have a TV, Refrigerator, Washer And Dryer and Dish Washer made by them.

I saw the original article and in it they post pictures of the box it came in that clearly shows it was a "safe" replacement.

Hahaha I know, that was the first google page! Their have been a LOT of story's over the years of failing Apple devices, we even know someone in our village who's iPad charger burnt their house down! We NEVER leave ours unattended because if that.

Its almost certain you will find horror story's about most manufactures that have and do exist, plenty of different car maker recalls have taken place over the years.
But as you said, the ivory tower is great.

Actually I think overall Apple devices are MORE dangerous then Samsung ones going by the news story's.

Good one Sammy!

Did you read the article? He has the box. It has the "safe" mark on it. The IMEI from the box passes Samsung's online recall checker. It really is getting pretty far into denial territory to imply the guy is lying with the available evidence.

Anyone else notice that Apple could've easily poked fun at Samsung for this at their keynote but didn't? They know when it's appropriate to joke and having phones explode is a very serious issue.

Sure glad I got my use out of the Note series before they started exploding. I love my Note 4 but I won't be getting another Samsung phone.

And just when they started getting more lenient on electronic devices. :(
The sooner every manufacturer starts using the new LI Ion technology that prevents runaway explosive discharge shorts the better. All current devices with current LI Ion batteries are ticking time bombs. I'm actually surprised there have as few incidents over the years as have been reported.

There have been a number of various advances at the university R & D centers that need to be adopted into full blown manufacturing, regardless of the tooling up expense. You will shortly see a hyper over reaction by the FAA regarding all LI Ion powered devices. In worst case scenario these devices will not be allowed on board on or off. Imagine traveling without your phone, track pad or laptop.

not to forget...
Reports that ISIS cell has infiltrated Samsung manufacturing plant. Could this perhaps be the root cause for the Note 7 fires?

They could have but that would be tasteless. Apple will just sit back and collect the money coming in from all the switchers. Samsung really did themselves in.

He had a ton other Android options but decided to jump ecosystem to an iPhone 7 that has an even greater number of issues? Doesn't make sense.
