It's no conspiracy theory that people like fame, notoriety, and sometimes money.

I have my opinion / beliefs and clearly they conflict with yours, so let's just leave it at that.

No.
Let's not.
Let's have a logic based discussion about our opinions. (The purpose of this forum!)
For what you are saying to be true this guy would need to have had the premonition of the recall to have purchased one BEFORE the recall. The article states that his replacement had the indicators on the packaging that it was "safe".
You are suggesting that he had the engineering savvy to rig the battery on his new phone to set on fire when off... then he booked a flight, and placed the phone in his OWN pocket; knowing if was about to burst into flames.
This "theory" is preposterous!!!!!!!!
It is NOT in the realm of: "well, you believe what you believe & I'll believe what I do"; it's absurd.
You are floating a really really "out there" theory, when it is extremely clear that the way these phones were made poses a genuine threat to the people that use them & those around them. Period.
Undeniable FACT.

...I was flying and listened to staff in airports and on planes in three countries ask people to just turn off their Note 7s.

Time to ban them outright if the fix doesn't fix.

Yep, I fly most weeks and the flight-attendants have been doing those preflight announcements for at least a month. It's routine now.

And you know what's really silly? TSA screeners making passengers dump water bottles, but letting exploding phones through.

The latest example of that is with this CNN underwater challenge in a pool between an iPhone 7 and a Galaxy S7. Even though the Galaxy has been shipping for a while (giving them time to correct/improve manufacturing) and has a higher IP rating, it started malfunctioning while the iPhone came out unscathed.

Key word is "consistency". When testing multiple iPhone 7 samples it's only consistently rated for the lower IP67. You might find one that's lucky and do a bit better. Or, you could be unlucky and it doesn't even survive a shallow toilet drop which someone posted about their iPhone 7 recently in the iPhone forum.

Wow, just keeps getting worse. I actually debated switching to a Note before this was out there as a serious issue. Happy to continue being a 7+ owner. I'll suck up the lack of "cool things" for a device that *hopefully* stays safe
I was in the same boat. I thought about preordering the Note, but at there last second I didn't because I rely on Apple's ecosystem. Boy was I glad I waited for the iPhone 7. With my luck I would have got a Note 7 that exploded.

Obviously you just copy/pasted stories from google without reading them. After just reading the very first story you supplied: one case she sat on her iPhone in her pocket that caused physical damage, probably the battery. Thats not a defect, but user carelessness.

A lot can be contributed to phones being in pockets being sat upon, which seems to be quite a few of them.

#BendGate that causes #BatteryExplosionGate. That's what happens when cheap aluminum is used in the iPhone 6 series. Many of the other incidents didn't involve the bendable iPhone 6.

If that phone really was a post-exchange one, if it really was a Note 7 and if the fire can't be attributed to an el-cheapo charger or a third party USB-C cable etc. Then I believe that wasn't only it for the Note7, that was it for Samsung in the North American market.

Have you read about the exploding Samsung Washing Machines?

I keep seeing more and more videos online of iPhone 7's out lasting the Galaxy S7 lol. And yes I had a customer who had dropped a S7 in a toilet and it didn't survive (by the way I sell phones for a living). So really seems to be the luck of the draw as to if your 7 or S7 will survive.

Even if you don't drop the iPhone 7 in the toilet it comes with a defective piss yellow display and hisses like someone peeing.

I have an iPhone 7 no hiss or yellow screen. Not saying no iPhone 7 had these issues but it was far less then people are making it seam. And at least so far no exploding iPhone 7's that we know of.

I really wonder if this won't end in Samsung just pulling the plug, cutting their losses, and pushing the S7 Edge. What are they going to say, "Ok THIS TIME it won't explode. Promise. Pinky swear"?
The new new boxes will have "no, for realz this time!!1!" handwritten on the side.

The reason why I'm defending Samsung it's because your not attacking them were it matters. Attacking Samsung manufacturing skills, doesnt make sense! Because let's face it..Samsung is the number 1 company when comes to manufacturing.

Google Daydream View VR looks and fells more high quality than Gear VR, despite the fact that Gear VR is more high quality, but would the consumers choose Daydream over Gear VR? absolutely! image does matter!

Smart phones are not designed to be load bearing devices. Reasonable durability is to be expected. Damage from dropping, sitting upon, water damage, cheap Chinese third party knock off adapters are just some of the causes of these problems.

Good one Sammy!

Actually it's Apple, you can choose between my iPhone 7 or iPad Pro or iPod Touch or iPod Nano or MacBook Pro to chose the name from, or you can accept some folks buy Apple devices without selling their soles and family and entire street to them! And we are actually capable of having different opinions where we don't automatically slam competing devices just because I must because that's apparently what Apple owners do...

People kept their metal iPhone 4 and 4S in back pocket without issue so as a habit they expect to do the same with newer models. iPhone 6 series was just cheaply made which the 6S fixed with stronger and better quality aluminum.

Time for the FAA to ban these phones from planes entirely until its totally redesigned and verified safe - its going to be a matter of time before this happens on a plane in flight and the loss of lives will be very real possibility. Asking them to be turned off is no guarantee they won't spontaneously combust anyway. Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board and release a whole new phone when they're ready, the Note 7 is flawed and band-aids won't do.

Rather Its a bad habit that will eventually cause many phones to fail or wear out prematurely.

I don't think your going to convince me the primary use of a smart phone is to sit on it. Its not like its a seat cushion. Heavy weight over extended period of time can take its toll.

I don't sit on my expensive electronic products and surprisingly they can last a long time if you take care of them.
