Printing to limited set of printers is a ugly business/financial strategy. Why push people to buy a new printer when technically they can use the old ones?

May bring them more money, but still ugly, an ugly feature on beautiful iPad.

ummm

Its to late!!! i can already print to any printer from my JAILBROKEN 3GS running 4.1...lolol i still love you apple..

IPhones are only great when they are jailbroken to unleash their true potential.. every phone out there has better hardware but the IOS cant be beat

That's my experience at least. I wanted to have a try on Android. My phone has better hardware than the iPhone, but is so slooooow in comparsion and software (web/market) crashes all the time. Thanks Google, but no thanks, my next phone is an iPhone.

So many negative votes, can't please everyone. Other than including ever driver ever made for every printer, how else would you solve this issue?

I agree it's a small list but this shows it's growing.

You would print to your PCs hardware abtraction layer via iTunes and let OS X/Windows handle the driver issues. Just like every program on your computer doesn't need a driver for your printer, niether does the iPad.

This is Apple abusing power IMO.

Nobody knows why AirPrint via shared computers was taken out, but I highly doubt that is the reason. If anything, it may have been another company abusing power, as there were rumors it was a patent issue.

Doubt it. It is no different from printer sharing between computers. Is printer sharing patented???

I don't understand the appeal of this AirPrint. Why does a printer have to be wireless? Nobody carries a printer around with them, it's a stationary device, ideal for wired connectivity. Networked printers have been available for decades. Even my little desktop Laserjet 1300n has a JetDirect ethernet card in it, and anyone can print to it from their wireless laptop.

Plus if you have a wireless device (laptop, tablet, etc) in your home already, that means you have a wireless network already. Why do you need AirPrint to print directly to the printer, when you already have a wireless network that can carry the traffic for you?

AirPrint seems like the answer to a question nobody asked.

So you don't have to have a computer on to print. You can print directly from the ios device to the printer.

This is ridiculous

It's easy to reconfigure through System Preferences in order to let the iphone or ipad see a shared printer. It's only a question of adding a line of code (only once), deleting all printers and restarting the computer. Try a search on the internet and youll find the solution. It's funny that Apple did intentionally cripple this feature, leaving open a wide crack for circumventing the problem.

So some people are actually buying new printers just so they can print from their phones? That's stupid
