You don't need to buy a new printer... I tried the "hacktivator" solution, and it worked with one of my printers but my other one - a new Canon I have. I tried Printopia, and it worked fine- even let's me print duplex to the Canon! They seem to have found a way to make this work much more reliably than the hacks do.

Anyone know what the cheapest AirPrint printer is?

Printopia... $10 + the printer you already have! (sorry, big fan)

I don't think anyone will be happy until AirPrint comes to shared printers. I would NOT buy a new printer just for this function. Especially not one of these expensive Wi-Fi connected ones. Printers are annoying enough as they are.

it's a total bust except for the :apple: fanboys

I usually find these sorts of statements equally as ignorant as the fanboi posts to which they are generally responding to. In this case, though, I'm in total agreement. AirPrint could've been so much more, if only someone hadn't decided its primary "functionality" was to drive the sales of new iOS devices and printers.

It's amazing how a fanboi (whether of Apple, Microsoft, DirectTV, or any other company) can manage to do these complex mental contortions and somehow end up actually believing that a) the intentional crippling of a feature is a good thing; and/or b) there were somehow some technical reasons it had to be crippled - even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

So many negative votes, can't please everyone. Other than including ever driver ever made for every printer, how else would you solve this issue?

I agree it's a small list but this shows it's growing.

I purchased the HP 8500A premium about 2 months ago in anticipation of this feature.

-It's working great. I love being able to print email, web pages, etc directly from my ipad and iphone to my printer.

-also, my printer has the eprint function where i can email the printer from anywhere and have it print documents, pics, etc.

-last but not least, the printer has apps. The apps allow you to print out all sorts of things from the web directly from the printer. For example i print out coupons and also print out coloring book pages for the kids to draw on.

These eprint hp printers are definitely not a gimmick. I'm very happy with mine. The version that i got lists at staples for $499 but they have lately had it at $399, plus you can get an extra $50 off with an old printer trade in, or the coupon that they have been offering for $50 off an hp printer. Also, the version that i got has an extra set of color print cartridges. It's a very good deal.

Bring back support for Printers connected to a computer - as was promised by Apple in September.

Yes, I know that you can get computer based printing with third party Apps and hacks, but those aren't good enough IMO.

EXACTLY

But the :apple: fanboys suck it up.

What's so difficult about sending data to a networked printer.

I have my iPhone connected to my wireless network but need to transfer any files to a computer then print

Ah - I see you don't get it.

I can print from my ipad to a printer with only the printer turned on, not the computer on the network - the iPad has no printer drivers or software, it simply sees the printer and prints to it - it doesn't go via the computer. Sending data to a network printer without having printer drivers on the device you're printing from is incredibly clever.

Airprint will be so much more, as demonstrated by this story. It's a new technology, it is rolling out, more hardware is supporting it. Why do you think Apple "intentionally crippled" this - you don't think that there were legal, security or technical issues that they are still overcoming?

Always with a downer on Apple - they're trying to piss us off on purpose.

Don't be ridiculous, they're doing what they can in partnership with peripheral manufacturers as soon as they can reliably, safely and legally do so.

I don't see ANY other company working on a system that can do this.

WOW a revelation 6 new printers

I can't believe Apple are really touting this 'great' feature with their own lack of support - they've got what, 2% perhaps, of all iDevice users who have access to/own any of these printers.

Everyone, just install AirPrint Activator and move on.

Airprint and Airplay are two features where Apple have been out done by small third party developers who offer far better solutions.

boring boring boring............ there is life beyond HP printers........

Westside, thanks, generally I don't like ignorant statements, but this AirPrint has been severely crippled.

HPs AirPrint Demo Web site is Flash!!!

What better way to sell your AirPrint enabled printers to iPad owners, than to put up a friggin' Flash demo!

Classic.

I think Apple has deliberately removed the generic AirPrint proxy from OS X to prevent that lazy printer manufactures get away with just letting their users use the proxy. Now printer manufacturers are forced (hopefully) to add AirPrint support to their printers and users will be happy. Proxyless printing is the only viable way to achieve standalone iDevice usage. Else we'd be forever needing a powered-on PC or Mac in the network to be able to print from iOS.
