I had an order in for a 2017 15" MBP with 1TB drive and Apple emailed that it had been delayed from the original delivery date of July 13. Turns out the delay was to switch my order to the 2018 model, but now delivery is listed as being July 27-31. Initial orders of the 2018 have already been shipped so it seems like my order should have been moved to the head of the line given it was actually ordered before customers were allowed to place orders for the 2018. Just a little snarky because I was hoping to take my new MBP with me on vacation starting July 26.

Ouch. Though at least you are getting the latest tech and don't have to deal with returning your brand new Mac to get the latest. But I sympathize with not having it on vacation.

I think it’s possible but if it happens it will upset people want a high end Mac touch bar. Unless this line has BTO options to bring it in line with the 13” MBP with touch bar?

Is or was? I have a hard time believing Apple would put out new models with the same keyboard issues that would require repair or replace down the line. How is that good for Apple? Whatever the issue I can’t image it was so complex that it required all new tooling and manufacturing lines to fix.
Can someone go into an Apple store and ask if this new model comes with the same 4 year promise of keyboard repair as the 2015 to 2017? If they say "no," maybe the issue is fixed?

Mine is a configure to order, 1TB SSD and 32GB memory. It currently shows it won't arrive until sometime between July 19 and July 23. I can wait. I'm just glad I got my order in quickly.

Solid choice. Probably the best value. It is nearly impossible to recover the extra premium for more storage if selling down the road.

What, that Apple may not be planning on updating the 13” non-Touch Bar?

There are rumors of a new 13” machine that’s not a MBA. Many think three 13” machines in the lineup are one or two too many, leading to speculation of the nTB being discontinued.

But who can know at this point? The simplest explanation for Apple not updating the nTB MBP is that Intel simply hasn’t yet released the updated chips Apple needs in order to update it.

Simplest explanation:

Dual core: $1299 or $1499+
Quad core: $1799+
Hexa core: $2399+

Makes a lot of sense. Intel doesn’t have a lower end SKU with Iris and Apple will not include the same CPU that comes with the base TB. A lot of people would skip the TB & 2 ports in favor of more RAM & storage for the same price if it were possible.

Customers who ordered one of the new 2018 MacBook Pro models that Apple released this morning are starting to see shipment notifications with the first deliveries of stock configurations slated for tomorrow.

As noted by 9to5Mac, customers have had their cards charged, and orders started shifting to preparing for shipment earlier today before some new machines were sent out by Apple.

Apple's delivery estimates when placing an order suggest the new 2018 MacBook Pro models won't deliver until July 16 at the earliest, which is next Monday, but some customers will be getting deliveries early.

Custom configurations for both 13 and 15-inch machines will not be arriving until next week, however, with build-to-order machines listing delivery dates between July 19 and July 23 for the most part.

In-store pickup for stock machines is not yet available, but Apple says the new models will be available in retail stores "later this week."

The new MacBook Pro models feature 8th-generation Coffee Lake chips with quad-core chips in the 13-inch models and 6-core chips in the 15-inch models, up to 32GB of RAM for the 15-inch MacBook Pro, a T2 chip for enhanced security and "Hey Siri" support, a quieter third-generation butterfly keyboard, True Tone for both the display and the Touch Bar, and up to 4TB of SSD storage.

[doublepost=1531507700][/doublepost]I just got an e-mail from Apple indicating that my 2018 MBP will be arriving via FedEx by end of day Saturday, July 14th. I ordered the standard 2.6GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor. I'm hoping I will be able to tell a difference in FCP X compared to the base model 2017 version.

Question for those who may have gotten their new MBP. Is the RAM user upgradable or is it soldered to the mother board?

Also, does it appear the the internal SSD can be upgraded by the user?

Thanks!

I wish people would stop abusing this policy. We all end up collectively paying for this one way or another.

Seriously? I don't think so. Apple is one of the most profitable companies on the planet and flush with cash. They just take the computers back and refurb them and sell them again on their refurb website and still make a massive profit.

I would take anything an employee of the Apple Store would say with a grain of salt.

Make no mistake we collectively end up paying for this one way or another. No company has a return policy that costs them money out of the goodness of their heart. People who think this is a free lunch don't realize they just end up either paying higher prices for their goods and/or the company shortens return policy windows. For example if no one abused the return policy it might be 4 weeks for all products like iPhones used to be.

Keep abusing these return windows and we'll continue to see people complain about prices and return windows becoming more strict.

The ram cannot be upgraded. It is soldered. The SSD is also now part of the system board. Order it in the configuration you will be happy with in three years.

I said nothing about abusing any policy, nor was that my intent.

It's just the mindset I see with people especially in the last few years. Instead of having patience and waiting for a review which usually answers their question..... they know there is a 14 day return policy and will order a very expensive product without hesitation and it's a flip of a coin on whether or not they will keep it. Enough people do this then thats a lot of money that Apple has to eat which comes back at the consumers. Trust me if collectively people didn't return items on a whim it would be better for everyone. To quote the other user who you were addressing;

"There's no advantage to doing that"

Agreed. I need iFixit to tear them down. If they're still crap, I'll wait yet another year for the butterfly keyboard to die.
Wonder how much more glue they will be using and how just much harder Apple will make it to service? Soldered in RAM? Soldered in CPU? Soldered in SSD strip?

The cost of the upgrade from 16 to 32 GB RAM is insane.

The cost for the upgrade is the same as the cost for a 32GB kit from Crucial. Only problem is Apple doesn't give you any credit for the 16GB you "returned" to them for the 32GB configuration which is worth $175 (Crucial 16GB Kit). They have the same type of pricing for the SSD. The price on a 1TB is about right for 1TB outright, but not an upgrade from 512.

While I understand the spirit of your message I have to say that following the policy is, IMO, not an abuse of the policy.

From the standpoint of a COMPANY POLICY. If the return policy is different, that implies the problem is fixed. Won’t know if the problem is really fixed until people start using them.
Sorry but I have to reiterate:

I would take anything an employee of the Apple Store would say with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't trust an Apple Store employee to be able to comment on anything of this nature.

Thats fine but i just want people to understand that anytime you do this there is loss of money and it comes back on the consumers one way or another. Make no mistakes about it....if enough people follow the return policy then stricter rules or price increases will occur. Thats just the facts. This happens all the times with retail companies having to change policies around this topic.

Just picked up the new MacBook Pro! I bought the base touch bar 13" model. Owning the 2016 model and the 2017 model this one surpasses the first two. The keyboard is much better and no issues that I have yet to see. Also the sound on this one is amazing compared to the other two. The sound of the speakers is close to my new iMac! Absolutely love this updated machine. If you are looking to purchase and new MacBook Pro consider the refreshed model. Really nice!!

Again, I fully understand the spirit of your message. But Apple has published a return policy and people who follow it should not be characterized as abusing it.

Oh come on. As long as one returns it in the 14 day window one is not "abusing" the policy. Apple wants us to try their products. They know that as often as not, we'll keep them! (Plus, returns help fuel the robust Apple "refurbished" market.

And no amount of reviews or other online research can substitute for hands-on testing.

This return policy is a great way to attract and to keep customers.

Am I the only one who hates the honking size of the trackpad??

Nope. If you have tap-to-clik enabled, which I do, then you'll inevitably hit it sometimes while typing and lose your place in the text. I've had the 2016 MBP for almost 2 years now and I'm used to it, but I still don't like the giant size nor did I ever think it was necessary.
