I'm not sure you are objecting to what I wrote or reinforcing it. Your post does the latter.

I am more reinforcing it, say the other options are not real alternatives to MacOS or Windows 10. They are lacking somehow. kind of like how Blackberry devices were lacking compared to iPhones.

Maybe they don’t need my business, but there is no need for you to be so rude.

apple is just going through a difficult patch on their Macbooks. If their basic MBP hardware dosnt work (keyboard)... well the MPB addresses a premium market with a possible junk keyboard.

Recently Apple products for me have red flag on them too. I am going to hold off and see how the market accepts any and alll Apple new designs.
i dont see anything rude?

I think it’s possible but if it happens it will upset people want a high end Mac touch bar. Unless this line has BTO options to bring it in line with the 13” MBP with touch bar?

Is or was? I have a hard time believing Apple would put out new models with the same keyboard issues that would require repair or replace down the line. How is that good for Apple? Whatever the issue I can’t image it was so complex that it required all new tooling and manufacturing lines to fix.

Is and was. I agree, the new pros should have the issue fixed - it seems highly unlikely Apple would acknowledge an issue and then just compound it. However, the old ones are still compromised.

Mine is a configure to order, 1TB SSD and 32GB memory. It currently shows it won't arrive until sometime between July 19 and July 23. I can wait. I'm just glad I got my order in quickly.

I could be wrong but at those prices I don’t think supply and demand will be a big issue.

that's an expensive piece of kit.

It's the same cost my iMac was 2 years ago but the first MacBook Pro I've bought since 2014. I used to upgrade my iMac and MacBook Pro (it was a Powerbook back in the day) every year and I'd sell last year's model at around 20% loss of value so really it was costing me about $700 a year to always have the newest machines.

I've become an adult so I don't spend like I used to on technology. skipped series 3 apple watch after buying series 0 and 2 year over year. I still buy a new iPhone every year though.

Statistically, I'm not a top spender for Apple's average though. I think I give Apple around $2,000 a year of my money on average, used to be more like $5,000. but I had no hobbies back then except computers.

I'm still showing July 23rd shipment.

Mmm... that just started. And it won't fix anything unless the replacement keyboard design has changed. So it's a big deal. And a big waste of time when one needs the laptop for work as often the computer is sent pin for repair. The 2016-2017 keyboard design is crap and needs servicing pretty regularly based on your work environment and how much dust exposure it gets. I'm also waiting to see whether the slightly modified keyboard design fixed the issue. THEN I will bring mine in for repair.

Apple doesn't create repair programs just for fun. They didn't completely redesign the keyboard, but they certainly fixed the "issue". I had a 2016 that suffered from he same thing: sticky keys, audible clicking sound, sporadic behavior, etc. It went in for repair 3 times and they finally replaced it with a 2017. All issues are gone and my keyboard hasn't suffered from any of the previous symptoms.

Intel would have to release the 8th generation of the CPUs Apple needs for the nTB before being able to make you that machine. But for all we know, the 13” nTB will be EOLed.

I've been reading that alot on these threads - what info are you using to support that opinion?

If the keyboard is so bad, hook up a different keyboard.

Why should I have to do that?

No need to b*tch about it on MR especially since your comment had NOTHING to do with the repair program or my original post.

It has everything to do with it. The repair program doesn't fix the underlying design failure of the keyboard. That was my point and I am free to make it. That's the purpose of a discussion forum. There is equally "no need to b*tch" on MR about how you think nobody should complain about it.

Obviously, the "service program" only fixes the faulty key issues. It won't fix people buying the MBP and then coming to MR to b*tch about they layout. "Service programs" don't fix stupid.

Just as someone who complains about the update and current state of the MPB can go out an buy an alternative - because nobody is requiring them to buy one, nobody requires anyone else to read their posts about complaining.

I hate Windows and I have money to buy any Mac. I don’t appreciate being price gouged, though. These prices are insulting.

If there were a Windows laptop with a decent trackpad, I would switch to a Windows laptop and install Linux. Every time I see a Windows laptop user, they have an external mouse because the built-in trackpad really sucks. They continue using external mice with MacBooks, as they never try the trackpad, assuming it’s unusable.

The only reason I’m not switching is the bad trackpad in Windows laptops. Otherwise, I would be running Linux on a Dell by now. I have no upgrade path from my 15” 2015 MacBook Pro. Apple has slaughtered the MacBook Pro as far as I’m concerned. It’s very sad.

Hello -- I have done this: Built a Hackintosh, and also taken Windows devices and installed Fedora (or CentOS) Linux onto them. I am running an Early 2013 driving 3 external monitors and when this one goes, I will look for a 2015 model. Dongles are not sexy -- they are devices to be forgotten on the desk when you need them on the road. USB devices are more common than M & M's in my house, and it is simply ridiculous that the current laptop doesn't support them without a dongle or a docking station. My next laptop will likely be a 2015 or a Dell that I customize with MacOS or Linux.

Apple has left me. No more headphone jacks on the phones (except the SE), and Magsafe / USB / HDMI on the laptops. I need connectivity to manage the servers I am responsible for, and to occasionally access a LCD projector, or large screen TV. The other guys just bring their laptop in and plug in. Apple wants me to carry around a bag of dongles. Their position motivates me to hurl foul language in their direction. People ask me for computer advice; it is part of my job. It is very frustrating to not be able to recommend an Apple product if the people have legacy equipment that works just fine.

In your apparent enthusiasm to insert Donald Trump into a discussion that has absolutely nothing to do with him (or is he a Mac user concerned about the current state of the MacBook Pro), you conveniently fail to quote the part where the OP called me "stupid" because I complained about the keyboard design.

Fixed! I quoted the wrong post...

Interesting you chose to respond to my post. You obviously saw yourself in the quoted text and felt compelled to post a defensive response.

I post a generic statement about anti-Apple hate and those, who without any direct knowledge, merely echo the complaints they’ve heard and seen others make. And here you come, right on cue, saying, you don’t know why I post negativity about Apple, you can’t read my mind.

Well I don’t know who you are or why you’re here, but I don’t need to read your mind; you just outed yourself.

Go away, back under your bridge.
You need help sir. You know nothing about me, and obviously you're way too emotional to be on a internet forum, at least to be of any good use. Believe me, I will not respond to anything you write in the future.

That would be much appreciated, thank you. Sorry you didn’t like what you saw when I held up the mirror.

What, that Apple may not be planning on updating the 13” non-Touch Bar?

There are rumors of a new 13” machine that’s not a MBA. Many think three 13” machines in the lineup are one or two too many, leading to speculation of the nTB being discontinued.

But who can know at this point? The simplest explanation for Apple not updating the nTB MBP is that Intel simply hasn’t yet released the updated chips Apple needs in order to update it.

I don't know, because you don't like the laptop keyboard and it's not working for you?

I am not soliciting input on workarounds for the problem, I am describing why the keyboard sucks. Plugging in an external keyboard into a notebook will not fix the keyboard design. It will still suck. (And it is implied that "it sucks" is my opinion which may or may not be shared by others.)

I had an order in for a 2017 15" MBP with 1TB drive and Apple emailed that it had been delayed from the original delivery date of July 13. Turns out the delay was to switch my order to the 2018 model, but now delivery is listed as being July 27-31. Initial orders of the 2018 have already been shipped so it seems like my order should have been moved to the head of the line given it was actually ordered before customers were allowed to place orders for the 2018. Just a little snarky because I was hoping to take my new MBP with me on vacation starting July 26.
