"why does it have USB-A?!" Because most people don't charge their iphone's earphones with their computers. A lot of iOS users dont even have primary computers in the way that we do.

How many USB-C charging blocks do you have lying around your houses? I have about 10 USB-A Ones. Everything uses them. If you have an iphone you have a charging block that is compatible with this cable. The Phone came with it. Duh.

Thats a fantastic explanation of Apples awful user experience 2016 i/O nightmare

Can't plug any of the phones Apple released this year or the wireless earphones into the latest Macbooks without buying and extra cable. What an awful mess.

For most people, the Earpods are really comfortable. Apple analyzed about 1000 ear shapes and found a shape that worked for most. There are definitely people who are outliers where the one-size-fits-all approach isn't going to work.

Building something that mostly works for most people really just doesn't work well for anyone. I'm currently listening to my iPhone 6 with a pair of ($60AU) Sennheiser earbuds (with the black rubber to seal my ear canal). The clarity I get from these headphones surpass anything the sound leaking apple headphones have ever produced. I only need to carry one cable with me (that connect to both the ear buds and the phone). There isn't an batteries to go flat either as they are powered by the battery within the iPhone itself. Also as the cable has a non proprietary connector I can swap my headphones for many other audio devices. (Shhh, I can also connect the phone to a recording device and get very high quality recordings). But if you want something that you'll end up losing (one of them) and only get 5 hours of use before having to pack them away to refuel, more for you I guess.

To everyone who has purchased these, enjoy.

Its par for the course and how things have always been. Why would you want to charge your earpods with your macbook when you likely have a million other things you could plug it into, including battery packs, which all tend to have USB-A. It makes no sense for them to include a USB-C cable at all.

It might do in a few years though.. Depends on whether USB-C charging blocks take off..

I managed to get a pair from the Apple Store in Broadway in Sydney and have been testing them out for the last 15 mins.

Fit: Fits perfectly and there are no issues of them falling out. It just sat in my ear as I wandered around the house. They almost feel like they're not there cos they're so light.

Charging case: Standard Apple white plastic. Magnetic closure and snaps close very satisfyingly. The AirPods themselves also magnetically snap into their slots.

Sound: They do sound a bit clearer and better than the standard EarPods. I'm no audiophile but I'm very happy with the sound quality.

Connection: Took less than 5 seconds on the iPhone 7 plus. Opened the case and they automatically appeared on the phone screen. Opened my MacBook Pro and they showed up in less than 5 seconds under the bluetooth tab.

Transition between iPhone and MacBook:
Had music playing on the iPhone. Turned on the music on the MacBook and the music in the AirPods automatically stops. MB music plays through the speakers and doesn't automatically play in the AirPods though. You have to physically select AirPods in the bluetooth tab.
Opened the music app on the iPhone and the message "Looks like you're listening music on another device. To resume listening here, just press play". I did and the music from the iPhone came back into the AirPods.

Overall very happy with the purchase. I'm most satisfied with the simple connection and transition, and the fact that they fit perfectly with no risk of falling out.

Happy to take any questions :)

Easier transition: option-click the audio icon in your Mac's menu bar and select these from there.

Finally! Thank you Apple. It will be a happy holiday season. I don't need to purchase and carry an additional charging dongle!! They plug directly into my new laptop - my Surface Pro 4. :p

Can you post a picture next to a box of floss to get a size comparison?

Also, I have the Powerbeats 3 and while listening to music on my MacBook or any other device, then open Music app on iPhone I do not get that prompt.

Bit of a side note - this is yet another device/accessory that charges with Lightning (and includes a lightning cable). Thinking about the possibility (and hope of some) that Apple will move to USB-C on the iPhone next year (or at one point)..

iPhones, iPods, iPads have been using Lightning for 4+ years now.

Pencil, Siri Remote, AirPods, Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad I believe have all been introduced over the past year or so and also charge via Lightning. If they keep ramping up with accessories like these, I can't imagine they are going to move away from Lightning anytime soon.

At least it comes with a lighting cable. Purchased a charger, $49.99, for my new MacBook Pro and it didn't some with a USB C cable... $29.00. I am excited to try these things out! I love the old single ear apple wireless headphone mic.... used it for a long time b4 i lost it. Wish these came in black, or other colors... I guess thats next year brave innovation.

Honestly I can't remember a time when you couldn't plug an iOS device into a Mac.

I wonder when someone will loose one or both?

Also surely a simple solution is to snap on (whoa magnets dude) a string so you can drape them over your shoulder like wired earphones like the asymmetrical sennhesier c300s (y shape?) so one is longer than the other going over the back of the neck

Here - but it depends on the size of your dental floss lol

And add $25 to the cost of the product and create more e-waste? I'd prefer they went the other route - slash $25 off the cost and tell people "charge cable not included because we don't know which one you need".

Fully agree here. They don't include a charging block and I'm sure at this point many many buyers likely have several lightning cables around. Would save on waste big time.

I was first in line at the Brisbane Macarthur store. Got there just after 7:30. Love them. Earpods and Airpods are the only earphones that actaully fit my ears properly. Anything with the gell inserts is just terrible and don't work. I haven't done any exercise with them yet, but they stayed in my ears just perfectly. There is a slight lag when it comes to sounds, (typing, snapping a photo etc) but music and podcasts sounds great. Tried siri and it worked effortlessly, and my caller on the other end said i sounded much clearer then when using my normal headphones.

They were all sold out after a few minutes, they were right at the back of the store just on a shelf. Lots of people grabbed 2 and did the self checkout thing.

So I ordered mine on day one, got an estimated arrival for Dec. 26th. I checked my order again today and they moved it to Feb. 8th, wth?!

Anyone experiencing a similar situation? I understand this is a hot product and shipping is going to be a nightmare but adding 6 weeks out of nowhere to the arrival date seems pretty damn idiotic.
