You think apple is going to toss in $159 earbuds?

And how much are the "similar" models?

Well in 2-3 years this completely wireless tech will be a little cheaper so they won't be worth 159 for a base model of these

But then again.... this is Apple we're talking about, they have no shame in charging full price for 3 year old technology so you might be right

I doubt it will get 10 hours of battery life. Maybe think next time you decide to comment.

Why do you need to plug wireless headphones into a computer? LOL, didn't think that one through did ya.

You need to charge the case. How are you supposed to do that without plugging it in? Coax the electricity wirelessly out of a power socket? Maybe think before you comment next time?

This is not about individual preferences. Soft silicone can't hurt as much as hard plastic, that's a scientific fact.
It's not primarily about the material; it's about the shape. I like buds, whether Apple's or the $7 throw-away gummy buds I used to use. I have yet to find an uncomfortable pair of basic buds.

But I detest squeeze-in-the-ear-canal phones like the ones you pictured. They won't stay in my ears worth a damn when I run.

Because people may already have their MacBook/MacBook Pro with them.
Why should they need to carry a separate power adaptor with them?

As shown with their new MacBook Pros Apple has decided that USB-C is the way to go (when they made a MBP with 4 ports and no USB-A ports), if they continue to ship produces with non-USB-C charging cables they are sending a little bit of a mixed signal.
I don't really think so. They're catering for the majority and reducing the amount of waste. If they included USB-C as the default that would be absolutely insane as it would be unusable for the overwhelming majority of the earphones' buyers.. This way everyone can use them.. And if you can drop a few $k on a new MBP you can afford the new cable you need in your very niche scenario..

If you had a new MBP and an iPhone of course you likely already have a USB-C to lightning cable to charge your phone already, if that's your charging method of choice. So.. Use that one?

Yes, they should give an option of USB-C or USB-A cables, I guess. But if they have to pick one, they made the logical choice.

Had music playing on the iPhone. Turned on the music on the MacBook and the music in the AirPods automatically stops. MB music plays through the speakers and doesn't automatically play in the AirPods though. You have to physically select AirPods in the bluetooth tab.
Opened the music app on the iPhone and the message "Looks like you're listening music on another device. To resume listening here, just press play". I did and the music from the iPhone came back into the AirPods.

Overall very happy with the purchase. I'm most satisfied with the simple connection and transition, and the fact that they fit perfectly with no risk of falling out.

OK, I'm convinced.

I'm sleeping with the Airpods all night when I get them.

Only the first night.

It's a new Apple product. They gotta find something to complain about.

It's genuinely pathetic. They don't even understand what the product is or how it's designed to function. They just know that with all their other wireless headphones (or the wireless headphones they don't actually own but have thought about) that they have to charge them at points during the day. So obviously these ones need to be charged during the day too, right? Wrong. If they took a second to understand how the things work, they would realize how ridiculous their complaints are.

THESE WILL NEVER SELL. TOO EXPENSIVE.

Sell like crazy.

Seems every time the people of MR claim something won't sell (new MacBook Pro, AirPods, etc) they sell like crazy. Maybe people should stop making judgement calls based solely on articles written by publications that make money when you view and get upset about products?

looks like the cheap junk they sell at gas stations. worth every penny i'm sure.

Super comfortable.

... and cheap on eBay.

I wouldn't want in-ear headphones without silicon buds for free.

It's funny reading he reports of

Fanboys gonna fanboy...quick question though about your obvious lie, how would you definitively know for a fact that "Most people don't charge their iPhone's earphones with their computer since they Just came out a few hours ago?
I said most people's iphone's earphones. As in wireless earphones. I said nothing specifically about Airpods. Airpods will be no different - they aren't the only wireless headphones on the market.

This is not an obvious lie, it's a certainty. Most people do not charge their headphones (which have nothing inherently to do with their computers) with their computers. YOU might, and random MR posters might, but we are not the normal iOS user, who uses the charging blocks that *come with their IOS devices for this very purpose*.

Charging your devices next to the bed? plug them into a charging dock or cable. Mains. Not your computer. Charging them on the move? Use a USB battery pack. Not a computer. Computers are not the primary charging source for headphones OR iPhones. It's an option, yes, but one used by a minority of iOS users. Same applies to the headphones.

cue next snide comment from apple haters:

I bet my ($5/$10/$12.99/$15) (bluetooth/wired) (headphones/ear buds) i got on (ebay/amazon/gas station) sound (10/100/1000) times better than this (overpriced/expensive) junk .

It's now clear from all the reviews that these AirPods truly are incredible with amazing sound. I cannot wait to get mine tomorrow. The technology that Apple has built into these devices is astonishingly good, and the bluetooth pairing pain is finally over for all of us!!!

Anyone who hesitated in ordering last week must surely now know they have made a mistake, because demand for AirPods is off-the-charts already with 2 month wait times on new orders.

No, but 97% of iPhone users don't have the new MacBooks and the Windows side of personal computers will take forever to adopt USB-C (Especially the cheap ones)

That doesnt stop them providing both cables. They should've done it with the MacBooks, Google did when they released the Pixel C. Just makes it an easier transition for the user.

It would have been great if they put a USBC connector on the battery case but didn't supply a cable. ;)

I genuinely can't see how these will stand up in audio quality, design (awful, like some sort of bilateral hearing aid) or price point, to similar current/forthcoming models from the premium mass market guys such as Sennheiser, B&O, BOSE et al.

Can see them being bundled 'free' (subsidised) with overpriced iPhones over the next year or two, at which point I'll just toss them in a drawer like I've always done since buying my first iPod in 2001.

Sennheiser, B&O and Bose do not have any truly wireless headphones.

Stop harping about it. Unlike most people here complaining about it, I do own a new MacBook Pro, and I get why they wouldn't provide two sets of cables when 99% of people won't need them.
