A little too convenient to have the 7S inside of a packing sleeve that exactly blocks any clear evidence of the reader being/not being on the back lol. BTW, Apple is not retarded, these things CANNOT be released alongside each other and still be called "7S" AND "8". If the nicer, pricier one is called the 8 (unlikely), then the not-so-nice ones must be the new "SE's" or something else, because they can't simply be two generations of the same product line, released together. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. That said, these will sell very well due to the large status/FOMO crowd, especially in the US. Everyone will instantly know that you have the 8/Edition/Pro/X in your hand.

I've said this before about previous iPhones but, I fail to see how this could be real. We're all aware that Apple has patented tech for using sensors behind a display, we all know that the Sharp Aquos Crystal uses actuators to vibrate the screen in place of an earpiece, although that particular execution of the tech apparently isn't very good like the amazing result on the Sony A1E OLED that uses the whole panel as the speaker minus bass. Still, Apple may not have found ways to bring those patents to life and make them viable to mass produce, but this year was supposed to be an all-out year. This looks like a dodgy shortcut. I guess I could see how the status bar could work, but how does the OS recognize the screen's dimensions, does it account for the pixels cut out, how would videos look, etc.

I hope these are just early prototypes that are still being circulated.

I am surprised how many people can't see that t his is flush... that's a bevelled edge lip it slots in from behind.

you need to see the full size image I think...

Yes just noticed it now when you look closer

Yes it's a semi half-assed solution. They patented behind the screen front facing camera, and sensors recently. Definitely wasn't planned on being included in this generation. Everything is possible eventually, but technology takes time. It was a super close call whether they were even going to get the touch ID tech in this phone or not.

I don't expect Apple to push the boundaries, and neither should you. An all out product from apple means more than they normally do, but there is no way they would go overboard (think profit margin). This phone, with what it includes, is already expecting to have a $150-200 premium over the others.

See my previous post, for pictures of the two potential phone designs.

How can you not like the dropped camera/speaker into the screen? It's a technological triumph with the use of curved screens (yes I know it's not brand new...but it is not popularized yet). I bet most won't even notice it with the reception and battery at the top too.

Front camera and earpiece cutout from display looks ugly, seems more likely fake  no way apple will make that ugly spot.

The areas to the left and right of the camera area will likely only be used for the status icons on a black background, effectively making it look like a black bar across the top that fades into the bezel (similar to how the Apple Watch screen appears to be seamless with the bezel). I can't see those areas being useful for anything else, but it will save that 1/8" of screen space that is currently needed at the top for cell, wifi, battery, Bluetooth, etc. icons. And allow developers to turn it on or off.

I hope that this is not true. To have an indent in the top of the screen so that it can be claimed to be edge to edge is idiotic. It provides almost zero useful real estate, constricts interface design, forces you to use a second line for clock. Top graphics would have to have completely redesigned and be incompatible with other phones. It's dumb and it isn't true.

No they won't or they wouldn't have done it... they will be space for the icons. so more screen space for the main apps - as per the concept designs. probably wrong as the designer s

BUT - I think the concept photos are probably wrong as the icons / battery will change to fit the space better

iphone-8-renders-ios-11.jpg

Imagine that the top will have a black UI that blends the camera.. and white if you have white.

As a UX/UI designer an extra 1/8" of screen space is a major addition of useful space. The current interface is designed around the icons because they are really in the way. Imagine the iPhone 7 with status icons in the bezel on either side of the speaker slot. The point is you wouldn't notice that there is a bump because it will look like just a slim bezel with icons on it.

That protruding vertical camera cutout looks inspired from traffic light signal :D Hell No!!

Haters gonna hate. Front looks awesome considering there are components that have to be there. And the rear camera isn't really about aesthetics as much as it is about functionality. I'll gladly take the shape for a good camera. U guys that nitpick these things are never happy no matter what Apple does.

And...

Is a traffic light where I come from. :)

As an owner of an S8+ and an IPhone 7Plus I have to ask you...in what way?

Things that bother me about the iPhone 7 are no headphone jack, Lighting instead of USB-C (like a Macbook), no memory expansion slot, low bottom end memory configuration (64 vs 32 GB), and no wireless charging.

Things that drive me nuts about the S8 include the fingerprint reader on the back, Bixby (WTF?), and some Samsung utilities. The last one is a big one. It would be a better phone is most of the Samsung duplicates of features in stock Android were removed or at least user-removable.

iPhone X.

If they truly plan to charge upwards of $1,000 then it needs to be THE BEST. Their camera is already not the best on a smartphone, could you imagine paying 1,000, which would be approaching the realm of almost 2x as much as a premium Android device? They're getting into crazy territory with their pricing, to the point they're eliminating perfectly good marketshare. $6k Macs and $1k+ phones...ay yi yi Tim
[doublepost=1497296315][/doublepost]

I'm not really sure where the pricing of "2X a premium Android device" is coming from. Looking at the following prices:
Google Pixel XL 128GB $869
Samsung Galaxy S8+ 64GB $850
iPhone 7+ 256GB $969

So, the iPhone is the most expensive, no surprise. But not 2X the price. I'm not going to do any research into this, but I believe the Pixel can not have its storage upgraded. In Samsung's defense, their storage CAN be upgraded via microSD, and in Apple's defense, the iPhone 7+ with 128GB is $869, the same exact price as the pixel XL. Not really sure charging $1000 is that big of a jump - $31.

I do think the iMac pro pricing is high, but show me similar specs to a Dell all-in-one (or CPU of your choosing, I just picked Dell out of thin air). And I don't care if people buy it. If they do, I'm a little jealous, TBH. To be fair, I think current estimates are about $17K for a fully spec'd iMac Pro! And I think you can max out a Mac Pro for around $22K? But I can do that for "pro" rigs in the Windows realm too.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter, does it? We all buy what we want to buy. Or choose to pass on a device until the following year if the newest features don't "WOW" us enough.

There seems to be three types of people on these forums
1) Apple "fanboys" who will never say anything bad about Apple
2) Those that despise Apple and never have anything good to say about them
3) Moderate techies who just enjoy some Apple products but aren't devoted to them one way or the other

Some of what Apple does pisses me off. But overall, I like their products. If I don't like it, I don't buy it.

Our first glimpse at components that could be destined for the much-rumored 5.8-inch "iPhone 8" and its 4.7 and 5.5-inch companion devices surfaced this morning in a post on reddit. The images are said to be sourced from a case manufacturer who received them from a glass supplier in China.

The first photo depicts what is said to be the front and back panel of the iPhone 8, with the front panel featuring a super thin bezel around all sides along with a top bar that could perhaps house a front-facing camera, microphone, and speaker. There's been some question on how Apple will handle the front-facing camera and mockup devices and renderings haven't offered a clear picture.

frontpanels1-800x600.jpg

Some design renderings have shown a section at the top of the device similar to the front panel in this image, while others seem to feature a bar that extends fully across the top of the device.

The rear panel features a vertical dual-lens camera and a separate protruding lens component, with no rear Touch ID in sight, in line with rumors suggesting Apple has indeed figured out how to build Touch ID into the display of the device.

A second photo depicts the two alleged iPhone 8 components next to alleged components for the 4.7-inch iPhone 7s and the 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus, two devices that are rumored to be launching alongside the OLED iPhone 8. All three rear shells are said to be made from glass in order to support wireless charging, and that all three devices will get wireless charging is a rumor we've heard before from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

While these images are in line with many rumors that we're heard about Apple's upcoming devices, there's no way to verify their authenticity. They could very well be from a clone device or a dummy device created based on the iPhone 8 design leaks and rumors that have circulated.

Even if fake, these panels are based on supply chain information and rumors and do perhaps provide an idea of what actual iPhone 8 components might look like. Still, it's best to view these leaks with some skepticism until we begin to see more part leaks to corroborate the design.

Possible major problem, thought it's unclear with these images. Samsung's S7/S8 infrared iris scanner looks like it can cause permanent eye damage with continued or incorrect use:

Anybody know, at this point, if that's a confirmed feature on the 8?!

Also, this is the first leak I've seen that shows the 18.5:9 aspect ratio. This is it y'all!

Everyone complained about the bezels and how Apple was behind and iPhone looked so outdated. Now rumors suggest next to no bezels and people complain about the cutout for the camera.

Bezels aside, what's weird is that the screen is no longer rectangular. For signal strength, battery life and other indicators while on the home screen, I think it's ok. If I'm watching full screen video, it just seems strange.

Aw jeez. That's not good. I have used mine probably around ten times and that includes the one I had on my first Note 7. It does make my eyes sting like hell or feel weird, which is why I don't use it to unlock. Sometimes it activates to authenticate me for paying for apps, since I forgot to turn that off. I would have thought Samsung and the Consumer Product Safety Commission would have safety tested this technology before incorporating it into a commonly used device.

I actually like the fingerprint scanner on the back so I use that as my primary method of unlocking or for authentication for payments. Thanks for passing that link along. I did just have a thorough eye exam and my eyes are healthy, so I assume the damage would accrue over time. If that article is accurate and presenting the facts and not scaremongering and there is in fact a risk of damage.
