Not bad, but my MacBook Pro 13-Inch Late 2016 scores 154870 with my external Vega 64 GPU and the whole system was under $1500... I guess if you need to render whilst on a train it's ideal though.

It better be considering these aren't Vega 64 GPGPUs.

Your Vega 64 has 64 ROPs or 64 Compute Units in GeekBench parlance, versus the 20 ROPs in Vega 20.

If they were the die shrunk 7nm Vega 64 Instinct's you'd be really irritated how much it craps all over your score.

Just plug in an eGPU and save yourself the money. Spend it on maxing out the ram and cpu in the configuration. Always pick the lowest gpu!! Save money, heat, and battey life. The “mobile” gains when actually used are not worth the price. Get a slick eGPU for the 85% of the time you’ll really need it. All while getting eons better performance than even the Vegs 20.

Don’t be silly.

The Vega 20 is between the gtx 1050 and 1050ti that's incredibly laughable for what Apple is attempting to charge for this nonsense.... I think they are sticking with AMD because no one knows about them so they can throw out cheap chips make them sound expensive and u iqye when they really suck.... $4500 for a i9 MacBook that performs worse than a Dell XPS 15 with the same specs $2000 cheaper is just pure laughable stupidity

I’ve been hooked on AdoredTV‘s tech videos (on YouTube) since watching his 1hr epic dissection of Nvidia’s history in the graphics market (Nvidia - Anti-Competitive, Anti-Consumer, Anti-Technology). Why this is relevant is he actually mentions Apple ever so briefly, so I thought this might shed some light on why Apple might have issues with Nvidia as a supply partner. Note: You’ll have to skip back a bit to understand the context, but it’s well worth watching in it’s entirety if you like these sort of deep dives ;)

I'm sure there is Beef somewhere in there. But the main reason Apple sticks with AMD is because Mac OS is deeply rooted with Metal. All Mac is Apps take advantage of metal and Open CL which favors AMD cards and AMD is always hurting for money to stay releavnt so Apple pretty much keeps them afloat

Wow... a 10% increase for £315 more...

These should be direct replacements not £315 upgrades. These MacBook pros are getting so expensive its ridiculous that even a mid range option is in the £4000 region. Then add another £399 for AppleCare.

Plus once you have the CPU and these GPUs pinned the likely hood is they will perform far far less than their potential with the poor cooling so whats the point.

The top of the line MacBook Pro costs exactly the same today as it did in 2006, $2,799

Only difference is the 2006 dollars are equal to $3,569, which means the modern MacBook Pro is actually 25% less expensive.

Your absolutely correct except when I'm on the airplane or traveling which is why I have a portable device in the first place... ;)

So this is what we call courage :D

Just priced out what my config would look like and it's nearly 5K USD. That being said, I travel a lot and it's tough getting my iMac into my baggage lol. As an engineer I need to use AutoCad, 3DS and other graphic intensive programs that my 2013 Macbook can't handle anymore. Really a shame the new iPad pro doesn't have mouse support and a file system as that flies through everything I work with...but I digress. The Dell XPS looks delicious price wise but given my past history with hard drive failure, blue screen of death, leery to give them a 4th chance. Relying so heavily on my computer while I travel, guess I am going to have pay the price with courage and extra lube.

Seems you don't since you had multiple people telling you the same thing. We will rely on these videos like the one posted above which provided us the info that was needed. Once they do some FPS in games like the 82% increase that was seen in the one game, we will really have our data.
I’m not interested in sponsored product videos. I use my Macs for work.

Without even looking it up - I’d put money that the income AMD gets from Sony and Microsoft is higher than they get from selling chips to Apple.
I wouldn’t be to sure about that. Considering the components in them are so old and cheap to produce and the price they probably charge apple per chip I feel like they would get more in this partnership.

Right but the range in performance difference from available onboard GPUs is simply not price, heat, battery, adjusted. Any render that will complete in your flight would be hard pressed to not complete with base or max. Either way, plug in your eGPU when you land and export in 1/10th the time and still deliver.

If gaming...well...come on. Really? I’ll play at reduced settings while in flight to maintain the trifecta of, price, heat, battery.

Cheater! How DARE YOU use a GPU that's 5-10% fater than an average 1080ti!?!? Enjoy ray tracing at 1080p/720 40-60 fps for the next few years.;)
Sorry to offend you if you cant afford a dedicated graphics PC... seems like theres a fair bit of hate coming from you..

Ray tracing in BFV, everything ultra including RTX in ultra setting, is around 80-100fps for me at 1080p.

As I play competitively, I play it with RTX turned off, to max out the 240hz monitor. For RPG games, you bet it will be incredible

It would be nice if they at least allowed the lower end Vega option on the 5K iMac when it gets refreshed since AMD is falling behind Nvidia. Or, you know, Apple could design their own desktop GPU at a ridiculous 20Tflops of performance considering they can somehow get Xbox One S performance into a freakin 5.9mm thin iPad Pro.
