Installed on my X. So far it’s pretty stable and lightning fast. FaceID is much quicker but my favourite change is force quitting apps can be done right away instead of having to hold down first.

From the SiriKit page:

Although it can't do all the things the proper Shortcuts app will be able to do, if you go install Workflow from the App Store (Apple bought them a while ago, it's clearly what Shortcuts are based on), create a new workflow, and visit Siri settings, you might find a nice surprise in the meantime.
Thanks.

I was really hoping iOS 12 was going to shift the balance of power back the user a little on this front. But it appears not.

Please explain this statement? I, and I'm sure many others, would like to know what you mean by, "balance of power..."

Memoji definitively replaces Emoji. Infinitely customizable memoji are inclusive and replace the endless emoji that have to be added for each person and their individuality.

I already use Animoji stickers for expressions instead of Emoji. This will expand that capability enormously. Now, just add a better Emoji picker for objects/foods integrated into the Animoji UI. Add a single smiley face Animoji that you customize with expression detection and that cuts down on the fast growing mess of Emoji being added with each new iOS release.
It really doesn't. Emojis are a standard and are compatible with every computer, smartphone and device. Memojis aren't, they are only visible by apple users and at the moment only iPhone X can make them.

If the app has to be changed to work with CarPlay, Navigon, unfortunately, won’t be included. Garmin is not developing Navigon any longer.

It doesn't have to be Navigon specifically, but any maps app that lets you download the maps ahead of time.

I installed this beta on a 5s. (not brave enough yet to put it on my X)
The 5s does indeed feel quicker, but I am fairly sure a lot of that has to do with Apple further shortening the unnecessary *transitions* in the OS.

Feel stable so far.

Not much in the visual department..
- frosted glass effect is back while sliding the notification center down
- the music notification is now frosted black glass (which looks weird and out of place)
- new Books application which looks totally different than other apps (sadly)
- redesigned album section of Photos app
- redesigned app bar in iMessage
- there is a new menu in iMessage when you click a contact
- grouped notifications
- Apple Maps dark mode works again when in the dark

This must be the most boring iOS update ever when it comes to UI

GOOD! We have been complaining for the better part of a year that we need another Snow Leopard year, so I am thrilled that they are tightening up the framework and foundation instead of adding UI gloss.

So not a single HomeKit improvement...

I hope shortcuts will let me activate a homekit scene and play music, as you still can't add speakers to homekit scenes for some unknown reason..

I think 1/10 people understand this concept. They think Apple is doing it and has an entire team creating them.
of course they have an entire team creating them. not only are the members of the unicode consortium and directly involved in defining the unicode standard, they also have their own set of icons that are mapped to the codes that the consortium agreed on.

I was surprised how many times Federighi stumbled during the presentation. He used to be the best presenter at Apple.

Because he seemingly did not want to be presenting. Why Tim Cook did not do it is beyond me. It was infomercial territory, then there was the exercise bike with walkie talkie bit...

This is new so far...

That's more of the notification control feature as aposed to HomeKit, they don't mention anything here:
https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-12-preview/features/

Yes but it’s right in the HomeKit app settings so it is something new. I am hopeful that Siri Shortcuts will be huge to HomeKit. Friday there is a deep dive session for HomeKit so I’m sure we will learn a lot more then about HomeKit newness...
