Interesting...

I don't believe I have ever seen a person hold their iphone face down as they walk, Nor have I ever seen a 12 ft giant drop their iphone from their pocket, or waste level while texting upside down.

Hope I don't have a growth spurt and start the habit of texting like that or I might be in trouble.

geesh.

Well done, sir.

Hahahaha, the negative reaction from so many of you is exactly what makes videos like this hilarious.

It's like that one video of the guy who waited forever to be first in line for the Nintendo Wii launch, then when he got it immediately went outside and smashed it in front of the rest of the line.

But real talk, I think if Apple designed a drop-proof or at least drop-resistant phone, that would be a HUGE selling point.

I agree!

----------

What an idiot. I would never do business with that company. Why would somebody ruin any piece of electronics like that with people standing in line waiting to buy said electronics. It's crass.

To wind everyone up...

I think its winding more people on the internet up and on this forum than it actually did in the video...

Chill...

These sorts of videos are emblematic of the disconnect too many self-entitled young rich people in the western world have. It’s not done in the name of research or investigation or consumer interest, it’s reality television. Whoring yourself out for money and a slice of fame.

The sad part though is we reward people like this instead of shunning them. I’m sure they will get the business they wanted from this little stunt.

Look at the gentleman in the green sweatshirt. He looks old enough to have grown up just after World War 2, when many people throughout the world, including the United States had to deal with rationing of goods & food. 60 years later someone who seems to have never dealt with adversity destroys a phone with a glib smile on his face, lapping up the incredulity of those in line.

I’m not one of these people who thinks we should be embarrassed about the good fortune we have to live in a part of the world where $200 can be spent on a phone instead of it being my monthly paycheck, but this is disgraceful.

Things will not get better in this country until behavior like this is driven out of society.

Moron, if I give you my paypal account would you just send me the $200? He wins the Darwin award for today.

A phone should survive a fall like that. It's ridiculous that it breaks so easily.

I agree a phone should take a fall and not break.

On the other hand, I'd like to see a drop test that also shows realistic drops. Not many people will be holding the phone over their head.

Most of my drops happen out of my purse as it slips out (I've learned to always keep my purse zipped up) or once or twice out of my hands when I was sitting so it wasn't a far fall.

Yes, the ones showing over the head are impressive (if they don't break) but thing is, really what the phone should be designed for at least is drops that are more likely to happen. At some point the returns of designing it for extreme falls ends up compromising stuff like size of phone (cause you need more dampers and such). I mean all smart phones are going to have a large glass screen (some larger than others if htey have a larger screen, another downfall of a large screen). And being a larger screen makes it more fragile in and of itself.

for what it's worth, for an iPhone repair shop, that's just like a $50 part.

arn

Not true, front glass is mated to the display and digitizer, you need to swap all three to have an iPhone that looks and works right. I believe you can get an off-spec regular glass display for under $50 but a gorilla glass panel it's still $75+ wholesale.

PS When I replaced my front panel msyelf via an ebay seller, I got one of those off-spec glass displays. It broke in my pocket under standard pressure with exactly the kind of crack you shouldn't be able to make in gorilla glass (clean break in a single line across the whole display). Ironically, I decided to keep the plain glass with the crack, because the clean single line break is only visible at certain angles and doesn't affect the touch interface at all. The broken gorilla glass display, which honestly broke under much worse conditions, knocked out of my hand down two flights of stairs, was an explosion of spiderwebs you couldn't see through, it had to be replaced.

Yeah, you can break glass if you drop it. Think I learned that when I was 3.

These videos are funny, but I much prefer stuff like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL5NltsDWX8

Yes, I am that mean.

No, I'd say that would be called being immature and having no life (if they think they have any more of a life than those people waiting in line... ha! Can't say they really do if they have nothing better to do than be *******s to a whole bunch of people). It's called grow up (sadly some people never do).

And honestly, I would laugh if they all got a punch to the face and broken noses.

I mean, after all, they don't seem to care about being mean to others and think it's funny. So I feel no guilt thinking it's funny watching them get hurt.

Seriously?! Some people are in line for 8+ hrs, and others cant afford it, and you just drop it on the ground... Some people just have way too much money...

It's their choice to be in line for 8+ hours. Some would even argue a person has way too much money/disposable income if you even buy an iPhone. Don't forget it's a repair shop pulling this stunt

Does he do requests? I'm curious to know what would happen if someone dropped a block of concrete on his head.

It's an viral video advertisement for their iPhone repair service business. Do you whine when you see a commercial for laundry detergent on TV when they intentionally pour coffee on a white shirt? "OMG they ruined a perfectly good shirt!"

Exactly what level is trash/refuse level?

I'm not saying this is not stupid.. it is:rolleyes:.. but,

This is an iPhone repair shop that buys parts (glass) in bulk so while you see a 700.00 phone breaking they see a part that most likley cost them 40.00

They are not using apple care, they are competing with it.

40.00 for an ad that proves a point is not a bad expense.

Even if they were to spend $600 on a phone to just drop it and break it, that is cheap advertising. In my business, I spend about $1200 per month or more in advertising and that has to be done constantly. $600 one-time to break a phone on camera and then distribute it freely over the internet is a bargain - if it works and brings in customers.

Two words describe this guy for doing that "absolute cock".

He clearly doesn't appreciate things and if he treats new items such as the iphone like this imagine how he treats his customers phones!!

That's a pile of crap. The guy owns an iPhone repair company. He will repair the iphone and re-sell it at a profit, most certainly.

well he obvs works for a repairing company so he will fix it in a minute and get a million viewers in no time. not a bad deal actually

Since getting my first cell phone in 1996 I have never managed to drop one from any higher than my kneecaps ... I don't expect this to be a problem.

Wait wait, how do we know it's a 4S and not an old 4? ;)

But yeah, my primary reason for not getting an iPhone 4. Just too damn fragile. My 3GS has survived numerous drops on pavement from such a height, but the damage is only a chip in it or so.
