I finally got it to download via the link posted here. Thanks for that.

What is the proper process to update the firmware on the unit? I assume I copy the extracted file onto the flash drive.

Do I then plug the flash drive into the unit and it starts the update automatically?

Thanks!

Unzip the file to a folder, place the folder at the root of a FAT-formatted USB drive. Connect the drive to USB1 (2 won't work). SD should also work. Settings -> System -> Firmware.

Then it updates! If you're lucky.

In Hungary (but I think mostly in whole Europe) Apple Maps is a useless toy compared to Google Maps. While GMaps is full of POI (even the tiniest, least significant places) and it gives you the right search suggestions in a millisecond, Apple Maps often isn't even capable of finding the most basic things around you. They're not even in the same league... It might sound harsh, but if there weren't an iOS version of GMaps, I'd be forced to switch to Android.

The same for Japan and Russia

The folder inside of the ZIP folder I downloaded that is titled AVIC 8000NEX_UC_FW-Update_v1.06 has a folder titled AVIC5000NEX inside of it which is what I am extracting to my flash drive. Not sure if I should be worried....

Dropbox link please?

The links provided here for the NEX4000 are just getting slammed right now. Can anybody with the file downloaded please post it to their dropbox, box or drive please?

Thanks!

Nope...the directions say that is OK. The update for my 4000NEX was the same way

Seconded. If someone has the file, please share.

Seriously, I already said earlier in the thread why I don't use those. I have used a couple of them. Hate them.

And use a tacky looking phone holder for the Navigation?[/QUOTE]

I have the 4000 (lowest model) and it has a 16 band EQ that can be manually controlled.

Yeah, I don't use those. Read the thread guys.

I don't want some crappy third party phone holder stuck on my dash getting hot from the sun, with cord hanging out or a stupid suction cup dangling out from the windshield. I want something integrated and my phone tucked away neatly.

Some pioneer head units allow you you change its viewing angle with the automated eject button.

That's cool, but you want it to be higher so your eyes don't have to veer so far down from the road. This is why the speedometer and such are located where they are.

Agreed.

...but you typically don't interact with your speedometer like you would a radio.

In the end the more relaxed, shorter reach of my unit being mounted low (where the stock radio was) seemed like a better idea that the longer and more uncomfortable reach it would have been mounted high.

I am a tall guy with long arms but I didn't want to have to have my right arm outstretched constantly to interact with the radio. It is a quick, comfortable trip with my right arm to interact with the unit where it is now.

But yes...for navigation (and the built-in backup camera) it is less than ideal but not as bad as you might think. And I believe all the NEX units have tilt capability and I find that the "flush" setting is still the best one (for me.)
