This is actually inaccurate. The future of infotainment systems is moving away from the proprietary interfaces of individual vehicle manufacturers. What it is moving towards is
Perhaps in the US this is the way they're moving forward, but you haven't seen BMW's latest iDrive system yet, have you?

It hasn't been announced but as far as anyone knows, there is no CarPlay integration and the system is massively superior to anything Apple are offering.

You have touch screens, gesture control, character recognition on the iDrive control, voice control and a superior mapping option. Additionally, it offers deep integration of many streaming audio apps (far better than some of the implementations I've seen on CarPlay), and also a lot more.

If CarPlay floats your boat, that's cool but I don't want it in my system. I'll stick to my proprietary iDrive :)

LOL
Putting a Corvette on par with a Ferrari or a Lambo.
My sides...

It must be even better than a Porsche, since it won all those awards.

Oh lord I'm dying here.

You need to resuscitate yourself then. My statements are based on facts, not biased opinion. And it's not necessarily on par with those vehicles, it exceeds them.

Hilarious. The corvette soooooo wishes it was a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. No matter how fast they make it or what electronic witchcraft they shove in it, it's still just a dime a dozen piece of GM junk. Just go to a cruise night and look at the reactions corvettes get. There aren't any. No one cares. Pull up in a 30 year old English or Italian exotic and people flock to it like moths to a street light in summer.

I do get a kick out of the standard corvette owners though. They got the Earnhardt #3 cap and t shirt, the GM folding chairs, and all of the other typical GM fixings. Oh, and let's not forget their age is almost always 50 plus years. Usually have the NOT hot wife with them too. :)

Oh man. Please stop. I'm at work. I can't LOL here

It's like saying that a quadruple cheesepuffs big mac it's better than a Kobe steak because it has more calories.

I'm off, bye.

Is posting a comment on a forum "loudly proclaiming" something? This IS a forum and people are here to post their opinions on any topic they choose. Just as you have chosen to go the douche sarcasm option in this instance.

Given the way you presented your opinion, I went with "loudly proclaiming". If we were all sat round in a room talking about this and you stood up and said "Am I the only one who doesn't give a rat's ass about [this topic we're all discussing]?" then I'd say yeah.

So, given that this is a discussion forum, as you point out, what valuable insight did we draw from your extremely eloquent discussion point about not giving a rat's ass about CarPlay? The insight offered in such a statement is truly breathtaking. The topic is surely the better for it and we are all enriched by your presence here.

If you're going to come into a topic and throw out some derisive snark, don't play the wounded victim "I was just trying to have a discussion" card. It's unbecoming.

Seeing as this nonsense has sweet FA to do with CarPlay, how about you take your "mine is bigger than yours" playground antics to another place?

Nah, Camaros are all-show-no-go, reskinned Chevy Malibus. Corvettes are budget supercars.

Really? The Camaro is a reskinned Malibu? Tell me how they reskinned the FWD Malibu into a RWD vehicle that can fit a V8 in it.....

As for the all show no go BS, apparently you haven't even heard of the SS 1LE, ZL1, and Z/28..... Not to mention the 6th gen Camaro is on the Alpha platform which has been praised for its excellent handling.

Take that new Malibu your talking about and really compare it to the Malibu it replaced. Guess what? Many say it is actually a step backwards. Don't take my word for it. Review after review questioned the same thing. Second, compared to the other cars in it's class its sales have been mediocre at best. Even if you take away the Camry and Accord it fails to compete with the Fusion in technology, style and sales. It's a great example of GM design by committee.

He's talking about the new redesigned 2016 Malibu. Not the the 2013-2015 Malibu......

Then let's look at GMs biggest money maker. Right now I see GM is making fun of Ford for building the body panels of the new F-150 out of aluminum. Somehow they feel steel is better, but insiders are saying the next Silverado will be built with aluminum. What? GM thought EcoBoost was a stupid idea, but you know darn well they will go down the same path in the future. That's the problem... GM always has excuses why old technology is better like pushrod engines, and then eventually follows the rest years down the line.

Ford wasn't first with turbocharged engines. GM had a turbocharged 4 cylinder way before Ford came out with their turbocharged engines. Just Ford marketed it brilliantly. GM's marketing does suck.

And I am sorry there is nothing wrong with the OHV V8. Both DOHC and OHV are old. They both date back to the early 1900's.

Also I am not against American vehicles since I drive a 2014 Ford Explorer. I am just against a corporation taking my tax money and then refusing to really fix what was wrong with the company in the first place. Are GM vehicles better today then they were 10-20 years ago? Yes, but they are still a follower and not a leader. They are still run by the bean counters and are still in the badge engineering business. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that. Enjoy your new Corvette. I am sure it will be a beautiful automobile.

And your precious Ford isn't into "badge engineering" either? Most of their vehicles are on the same platform including Lincoln's.

Apple could adopt a coherent policy and license Carplay only in cars that don't blow all that smoke, i.e. <140g CO2/km only or similar. This 650HP gaz guzzler makes me want to puke.

Nah. Plow into a turn too fast and you'll know what I mean. Driven vettes around tracks and along the countryside, and that heavy front end sucks. I laugh at your idiotic comment.
Based on your reply it's pretty obvious you don't actually know what understeer means. You also have no clue about Corvettes. Heavy front end? Corvettes have 50/50 weight distribution. Please stop making up stuff. You don't have to be a fan of the Plastic Fanstastic, hell I'm not. But I wouldn't make up fake negatives just because of that. Corvettes in the wrong hands have an issue with oversteer (getting the ass out). Understeer is not, nor has it ever been, an issue for a Corvette or any high horsepower RWD car.

Hey that's me! Did the NCM delivery in 2005 with my son. Great experience. Currently enjoying my 2014 Stingray.

My wife actually convinced me to do it, I just wanted the car, she said, I'd regret not taking the opportunity. We had a blast at the museum, the "behind the scenes" tour, I got to fire a Vette up on the line (not mine, I think you can do that but the logistics/timing are a little more complex). Really enjoyed the red carpet treatment from the staff. We flew up, rental car'd to the plant, and _drove_ the car home ~900 miles. Not a bad way to put some initial miles on the car, cruising through the Smoky Mountains/Blue Ridge Parkway. Two weeks later, with barely 1500 miles on it, I had it on track at Roebling :D

Yea..that's what people who can't afford to buy one usually say ;)

If I decided to spend my money on cars, which I don't (Even though I can afford them), I would never buy a Corvette. Be honest with yourself. YOU have a Corvette because you can't afford a nice sports car.

The real question is, if the Corvette's battery cable comes loose, will CarPlay still function?

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/.../texas-man-dog-die-trapped-corvette/71053474/

Corvette is not a car I think I would drive, but I work in Bowling Green, so I see a lot of them. Every year, they have a "homecoming", and there's not a hotel room to be had for 30 miles. Every other car you see is a Corvette.
Sad story about the guy and dog dying, but it shouldn't have happened. Corvettes have a big ass manual lever on the floor right beneath the door handle. All he had to do was lift it.

That had to be a great experience. Were you careful to avoid the understeer? Hahahaha. pdaholic is killing me with the understeer talk and mid engine nonsense. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Got to to love liberal fascism.

note to h8s from spoderdude:
I am not anti-liberals nor anti-conservatives.
Hell, I'm not even from America.
I just really hate fascism. Considering my country was under a right-wing fascist dictator from the 1930s till 1974, I kind of know what I'm talking about.
But fascism from people who defend liberty atop of everything... wow

please mods, don' ban me. :3

The Corvette is front mid. I was going to bring that up the first time I read it but I let it go.

We drove off a couple of cliffs when I pushed it into some turns. Just popped out all the dents since it's made out of plastic. :D

It was super cool, definitely one of those "didn't want to do it, but 1000% [3 zeros] glad I did". Beyond the actual delivery experience, I probably wouldn't ever seen that amazing part of the country. A buddy of mine did a European delivery of his 1M, which sounded pretty fantastic (the discount on the delivery just about covers the travel costs).

Clearly you never owned one to appreciate it.

From power, to handling, to the lines of the body, it's one of the few cars that has it all for under $100k.

My c5 had one of the best COGs out there and still does.

If you look at the history of the Corvette, that is exactly what it's about. An Ameeican sports car at a good price below the European exotics.

Well, P.T. Barnum said it all .... sucker born every minute.

I've owned a few GM vehicles too, but they've been an amazing poor decision every single time. I stayed loyal to Toyota for a while through the 90's because GM burned me so badly. Then finally gave them another try with a Cadillac CTS Coupe in 2012. Nope..... wound up trading it in (after watching it depreciate in value like mad), when I grew tired of all the little problems it kept having, in supposedly a "world class" luxury offering. The pop-up navigation display, for example, would fail to pop up randomly when you started the car. You had to turn off the ignition and try again to get it to work. Dealer couldn't fix it after 3 attempts. And when it screwed up, you lost control of your climate controls on the dash too. All sorts of rattles and squeaks that the dealer managed to fix about 60% of the time. Some kind of wheel sensor hub failed and caused the traction control system to error out randomly. (Supposedly a real common occurrence on these cars too.) USB port in the center console literally broke into pieces and had to be replaced. Piece of plastic door trim started falling off and kept the door from shutting quite right. Direct injection engine design poorly thought out so it required costly carbon cleanup/flushing in the engine every so many miles. The list goes on ... but basically, it was a strikingly cool looking car that SHOULD have been really great, but as per usual, GM fumbled on the execution.

It wasn't too pleasant, either, going to dealers for warranty work and being warned that "Since we're still kind of struggling since the bankruptcy and bailout, GM is a lot more picky about what they will and won't cover these days. Don't know for sure if this will be covered?" What a great attitude to go with your luxury car brand!

My First car - 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTX [ GM ]
Then, 2001 Pontiac Trans AM WS6 [ GM ]
And now, 2012 Chevy Z06 [ GM ]

Planned... another Z06 down the road. Also, have an Escalade [ 2008 ] and Chevy Impala in the family, other than BMWs and Acuras.. I absolutely LOVE GM !!

Congrats. The C6 Z06 is my favorite in terms of design. The new ones are OK. The front is great. The back is kinda disappointing because they put Camaro lights instead of Corvette-style round lights.

If anything, those Camaro lights look more like the squarish Corvette taillights from 1991-1996.
