Apple used a protruding camera for the iPhone 6(s) just so they could fix it and sell us the iPhone 7(s). Jobs never would have sold the iPhone 6 with that terrible looking camera.
[doublepost=1454525241][/doublepost]
Which is why this is likely fake.

I use my phone naked, and I never once have thought, "damn that protruding lens"!

I use mine nude as well and it bothers me to no end. I think it's just one of those things where it bothers some and not others.

Personally the curved plastic bands at the top and bottom are my least favourite design element, so this rumour doesn't do much to sell me on the new device. Hope they don't also do a barely-there processor update like they did for the A8. On the up side, I guess it'll save me the temptation of buying when my contract is up.

Exactly. I ' d rather keep the horizontal lines and loose the lines along the top and bottom. And for the 7 + I want the lines on the sides of the phone to match the top and the bottom of the display. Symmetry!

If true... this rumors dashes all chances of an exciting new iPhone. It's more of the slab shaped, cheap to make form factor. Hardly an inspiring design. About as generic as they come and too much like the old ones. Just think, if the economy softens like predicted, it'll be hard to justify Apple's price for more of the same. A mistake Apple's in denial about.

Just wait, the Apple apologists are sure to come along to regurgitate the obvious and brag about how fat and happy Apple is. That in itself could eventually bite them in the seat of their big boy pants. :D

I don't think it keeps people awake, but I bet if you asked people which they thought looked better - an iPod without those lines, or an iPhone with them, most would say the iPod.

Which in short I thinks ultimately where they would like the iPhone design to end up - its probably what they think is the best design they can currently come up with, without the additional restraints imposed by the phone.

Personally, I don't care in the least. And it amazes me how much people talk about it.

Hypocrisy at Apple is their Mission Statement. It's also unapologetically hypocritical.
[doublepost=1454506641][/doublepost]

Wile I sued to hate the antenna bands, I don't anymore. BUT...

The antenna bands are like putting pinstripes on a Ferrari.

No, it's like putting lines on a phone.
[doublepost=1454530272][/doublepost]
Nobody said that (basically).

The people care about the stupidest things.

Apples philosophy seems to be make it thin then thicker and then even thinner then the first one.

Happened with iPad to iPad 4, 6 to 6S,
Its so people can complain about the phone getting thicker and thinner.
[doublepost=1454530332][/doublepost]
How... innovative?

Apple's new tagline: Why innovate when we can regurgitate?

Consumer tagline: Because we keep buying it.

If people didn't care they would be fine buying a Motorola or Samsung product. It all matters.

The bands don't change how it works, it's operating system, the weight or size of the phone, and the only time you notice it is if you're looking at the back of it. And even then I'm not sure why people hate it so much.

So, no.
[doublepost=1454530446][/doublepost]
Well they are rather thick compared to say the HTC one series.
I think the people complaining are thick compared to the HTC one series.

[doublepost=1454521693][/doublepost]Why do they keep saying"the usual September"?
I'm by far an expert but I know Apple always launched new phones 1st half of the year and then the last half its the S model.... I doubt seriously that will change.
All iPhones since the 4S have been released in September/October.

''The other significant change with the body of the iPhone 7 is the removal of antenna bands across the rear, allowing for a cleaner all-metal look on the back''.

Seriously? Who cares, as they are to thin to hold without a case anyway!

Because, you know, it has to have antenna to work as a phone :rolleyes:

In a case there's nothing protruding, you are right, but a flushed camera is welcomed.

and exactly who cares about your underwear ? o_O
[doublepost=1454495391][/doublepost]
a bigger battery means a bigger and heavier phone. No thanks...
I can obtain 6-8 hrs of actual usage from my iPhone 6S, that's definitely enough for a single day.
In MY opinion using a phone more than a few hours per day is insane.

They are not the same, but they share the same "family feeling".
The iPhone 6 was a bigger departure from that design.
[doublepost=1454496053][/doublepost]
Please ! Don't sit on your iPhone 6: it will bend :D:D:D
[doublepost=1454496540][/doublepost]
The iPhone 5S share the same design but with much better hardware than the iPhone 5....

Did you realize your phone NEED holes for those sensors to work ?
Don't buy a white phone if it bother you so much ....

What a beauty ! :cool::cool::cool:
[doublepost=1454497576][/doublepost]
yes, because they sold such a few phones ... they are lacking in the skill indeed ... :rolleyes:

why are you so obsessed about apple's profit ?
you keep speaking about that , even with multiple posts in the same thread ....

Breaking news : a commercial company looking for profits.
Why not? :rolleyes:

For the past few years Apple made up for the same design s model by offering a significant processor update. Apple's way of compensating those of us who have a new phone that looks like it could be a year old (with the exception of Rose Gold iPhone 6s models). You can't have your cake and eat it, it's either a new design or a big performance boost. Of course if there's a slump of s-model sales like what may be the case for the 6s in the next few months, a minor redesign may become necessary every year to spur a healthy number of sales since performance has reached a level I would call "more than enough for the vast majority of users, maybe 99%" (just like with computers). Recent features have been meh to slightly better than meh, Apple Pay and 3D Touch included. Like I said in a couple of posts already, welcome to a mature smartphone market where your iPhone or Android phone has more attributes as a commodity than anything else. Apple knows this as they try to spread their eggs to another basket (a moving basket perhaps).

iPhone 4 still the best looking design yet.

The 4S was my first iPhone and I added it to my "Apple museum" for sentimental reasons. I didn't feel the $100 or so I would get for it when I got my 5s was worth losing my first iPhone. The 5/5s and 6/6s failed to live up to that design or surpass it. It's subjective I know, but I think I have significant support on that front.

The metal ring around the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 were the best. On iPhone 5S it was non present, maybe is faster to manufacture a cheaper and uglier device.

Interesting, I've never seen that, do you know the source?

Sorry, I don't remember where I read that. I just remember thinking that was a very interesting comment because they clearly looked at that as an option.

Why did the render in the article remove just two of the antenna lines, and not all of them?

EDIT: Yes, I see the rumor says the side and top lines will remain. Still, why not make a mockup without the lines at all?

I am grasping so hard to try and understand why you think they should have made a mockup without the lines..... When the rumor is that the side and top lines will remain.

I tried for a solid minute.

The photoshop work on this isn't too great =/

But the flush camera sounds awesome.

You win the first to bitch about the bad photoshop award. Congrats.

I know I sure couldn't pull that off in photoshop (or almost anyone who ever comments on it) so I give the proppers where they are due. It's not like they are trying to pass it off as real.
[doublepost=1454550581][/doublepost]
right, but not having a redesign, as the article mentions? That seems very unlikely.

Have you seen Apple's design chops lately? (Thinning things doesn't count!)

I would say something dramatically different is extremely unlikely.

Macbooks pros.... going n what 6 or 7 years with same design?
ATV.... if impregnating the old box counts as a redesign, which it doesn't, so over 4 years
Macbook Air.... *never changed design since launch
Imac..... debatable... It's thinner... but when you take out the optical drive and cripple the machine sure it's easy to shrink the ass end that face the wall and no on sees.... so I'll give that a half redesign.
Magic Mouse 2/magic track pad.... new (and not necessarily better) function, same look
iPads.... we've shrunk the bezel (and not nearly enough) and put a pretty ring around home button
iPhone.... sleeker, it wins but I can't see the 7 changing much. As much as HTC got slammed for copying the 6s, the 6 really had an HTC look and feel about it to begin with. It's at a point where you can't do much more to phones. It's all been done, so I don't fault apple here.

The only design winner I will award apple in the last half decade is the new Macbook. That one makes me kind of angry because I think the Pro's deserved a makeover more than a resurrection of the budget notebook line that now starts off more than a pro with horrid hardware under the hood.

Johnny Ive is starting to remind me of Mr. Brady in the brady bunch movie in the 90's where every design he has looks the same just bigger or smaller.

The OP compared a phone case to putting a case on a watch and bumpers on a car. A poor analogy at best and practically not the same at all.

A case on a phone is about preventing unavoidable wear and tear in normal use, for which the manufacturer understands and arguably designed the iPhone 6 in mind. Hence arguably the protruding camera and the allowance of ultra thinness for which [I am personally aware..] my case has reinforced it's structural integrity at times.

I use my watch and car everyday along with my iPhone. However I can safely say that after 2-3 years there will generally be less damage and scratches on my car, or watch than my iPhone if it had no case. My old 3GS was a good example of wear, from having no case.

This is because of the relatively heavy and repeated use of that item in 'higher risk' environments which cannot be compared to a car, or a watch.

Now if you could throw your car in your bag, or stuff it in your pocket with a your keys, coins, or balance it on a bench in the gym etc, this would be a different story and why it remains a poor comparison.

I understand your logic, but we see this differently. I've never used a case on my iPhones, or my watch, or car for that matter. My car for example, has much more noticeable wear and tear than my phone does. Mostly door dings and Marks from road debris. The iPhone was not designed to put in a case. These devices are meticulously designed with every detail in mind, this includes the form and feel of the device. Putting a case or even a screen protector on your iPhone, takes away a part of what it is. It's the same to me as putting plastic on your furniture, covering a steak in steak sauce, deep frying morels, or not removing the plastic film on your monitor bezel "to keep it nice". OP's comparison was about ruining the aesthetic by covering it with a case, something that's viewed as absurd with anything else beside a phone. I pointed out that it's true, and you confirmed.

Hope its not the same thing after three years. Come on Apple. Give us OLED, give us waterproofing, high resolution, more durability.
