The mini has a bad software bug. If you use a case with a screen protector, the phone screen becomes pretty much unresponsive to input. If you use either a case or just a screen protector, you won’t experience the bug.

edited to add: All users are having the problem and there are a few threads already about the bug.

I am still waiting... but it is Apple’s fault. I did the whole 5 am routine last Friday, got my confirmation for Nov 13 delivery... then today, Apple updates my delivery to Nov 23!... has my green iPhone 12 mini in “ready to ship” limbo...

I get that things can be delayed, but surely Apple knew there would be a delay before Nov 13. No notice!... what was the point of doing the 5 am routine if I didn’t get the phone on Day One? I was literally one of the first to order out of the gate... and both checkout and confirmation said Nov 13 delivery!

What makes it worse is that there was no explanation. And there doesn’t appear to be a supply issue: I tested and you could still order and pick up in store easily.

so it’s great that you guys got yours... but it hurts at the same time.

Have you checked your local store stock? It was a proverbial ghost town when I went to pick up a mini for my wife at 9am, and a quick check of the app showed they had almost every model of the mini, 12, pro and pro max in stock.

Thanks for the suggestion... Yeah I checked the stock. That’s what angered me more. They have stock, yet I have to wait?... so much extra work, cancelling my order, creating a new order, Apple Store is far away and makes you wait, etc... might have done that if Apple was quick to make things right with me, but I had a bizarre and unproductive customer support chat... it was like a human/bot hybrid person that at times didn’t even realize the phone was released today

the 12 Pro Max is really big and thanks to the sharp edges more difficult to grab than the 11 Pro Max.
Still I am happy with my choice - the mini has some charm, but more as a secondary phone.

Just added a size comparison 11 vs 12 ...
(it seems the 11 is brighter than the 12)

I think the 12 Pro Max is easiest to grab than the 11 Pro Max rounded edges .

It's Friday, November 13, which is the official launch date for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. iPhone orders are arriving to customers, and Apple has begun selling the new devices in retail stores.

We've seen multiple reviews of the two new iPhones from media sites, but now regular customers have the smallest and largest iPhones in hand and are sharing their opinions of the device on the MacRumors forums. For those waiting for their own new iPhone or considering making a purchase, impressions from regular consumers provide useful insight.

iPhone 12 mini

MacRumors reader elephantnut had a long list of thoughts to share. The flat edges are a "welcome departure" from the rounded edges, but the design makes the phone look and feel thicker. The white color is "elegant but cute," and more of a warm white than a cool white.
MacRumors reader Hoobaman shared some useful photos of the iPhone 12 mini in a Leather Case for those wondering how the new leather cases look.

MacRumors reader pinchies said that the size is nice and allows for one-handed typing, but getting to Control Center still "requires a hand shuffle." The screen is dimmer than the iPhone 11, and it's not quite as sharp as expected. MacRumors reader skyhawkmatthew disagreed on sharpness, though, and said that "colour and sharpness on the display look great."

Prior 2016 iPhone SE owner Klasma said that the iPhone 12 mini is both heavier and larger than expected and not as "handy" as the SE when it comes to chassis size.

Other insights from iPhone 12 mini owners:
  • It's so small and lightweight that it feels like air
  • The notch eats up too much of the screen compared to the rest of the iPhone 12 lineup
  • Speakers sound much better compared to older iPhones, but sound is "thinner" than iPhone 11 with less bass
  • The screws on the bottom of the mini are not color matched to the device
  • The display is warmer than older iPhones
  • The iPhone 12 mini is barely noticeable in a pocket
iPhone 12 Pro Max

MacRumors reader Vengapat9 returned his iPhone 12 Pro because of battery life issues and chose the iPhone 12 Pro Max with its larger battery. He says the phone is "big as hell" and a "tiny bit wider," with the larger screen displaying more information "even better."

MacRumors reader Gtg456x loves the larger screen size and says that it "doesn't seem that big."MacRumors reader Ryancgray said that the stabilization for video recording is "incredible," while MacRumors reader lukeoneill90 said that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is "blazing fast" with quality speakers.

Other insights from iPhone 12 Pro Max owners:
  • The gold color is stunning and classy
  • Face ID is the same as on 11 Pro Max
  • Weight is similar to 11 Pro Max
  • Feels more solid and secure to hold than 11 Pro Max
  • HDR video recording is amazing, it looks very real and vibrant
  • It's huge and may take some time to get used to

I am in LOVE with the mini. I haven’t felt this excited about an iPhone in a long time. I do a lot of messaging with my docs on the floor as a nurse and loving being able to text without feeling like I’m stretching my thumb. THANK YOU APPLE! Finally!

Coming from the 1st generation SE, the mini is just great. Though a bit heavier (20%) and wider, the screen looks like it is twice as big. Going back to the SE is like going back to the 4 in comparison! A fifth row of apps, super quick and responsive, transfer setup in less than 30min. So far, happy! The only issues are iOS14 related bugs I already had on my SE, and some hit or miss notifications so far which I hope will be solved with use.

Those phones are HUGE! They are ridiculous looking; awkward and dorky

Plus, can't imagine them fitting comfortably in most people's pants pockets, clutches, or small purses, especially with a case on.

To think that people used to laugh at students with slide rules! Or, who had pocket protectors...

Look who's laughing now!

(Great early '60s California pop song by Bruce & Terry — that is, two rock pioneers, Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher.)

Agreed. The max is just unnecessarily large. Definitely a no from me. I have an iPad I can use lol

I am very pissed off and dissatisfied that Apple and AT&T both failed to mention the fact that 5G does not work with dual sim! I just upgraded my at&t account to 5G so I can only use LTE. Oh also got a new iPhone 12 Pro Max for no reason.... very disappointed.

Dual sim is suppose to get turned on by end of the year.

Hey, im wondering if anyone can help me. I purchased a 12 pro on launch day at best buy (never again) and I went over to the apple store today and saw the Max and ... wow. It is stunning. My dad is willing to take my 12 pro and I can use his upgrade for the 12 max. I was wondering if anyone has every swapped devices with someone on their account. If it helps, I’m with Verizon. Is it as easy as restoring each device and then setting them up after the sims have been swapped?

So happy to have a smaller phone again. I’ve had my iPhone X for years and it’s a little big - I usually have my iPad near by, so the mini is perfect now.

The iPhone 12 mini is just perfect for me! While I liked the iPhone X, XS, 11 Pro and 12 Pro, the mini reminds me of the 5s, except the screen is so much larger and nearly equally as portable.

I can't write anything additional about the 12 Pro Max that hasn't been said a million times. My only input is, I got the clear MagSafe case from Apple and it's insanely slippery. Pressing the volume rockers makes the phone slip in my hand. Going to have to return it and go with a leather case instead for the extra friction.

Thanks for sharing. I was deciding on which case to get. I love the idea of seeing new iPhone colours through the case, but if it’s too slippery, it defeats the purpose of having a case to protect the phone if there is an increased risk of dropping to the ground. I’ll look at either the leather or silicone cases now.

I updated from an 8 plus to 12 pro max and I absolutely love it. The size is almost identical with the plus so I don’t really mind it but the bigger screen is really awesome! Last night I was out with a friend who has the 12 and we took a couple of low light photos in the bar and I have to say that the 12 pro max took indeed better pictures faster, so yes the bigger sensor does make a difference.

I had 11 pro max and was fine but I feel like the 12 pro with the apple leather case and clear case felt to big... im wondering if there is a thinner case. I keep thinking about going to the pro but I dont know I like the screen size but not the size with the case .
