I am having the same experience with the apple silicon case. This phone is heavy and big and I am coming from an 11PM, I am seriously considering exchanging this for a pro and taking the loss of battery life.

The 11 pm to me had uneven weight and sometimes it felt light and other times super heavy. And I hated the round design. The 12 pm feels amazing but the same weight throughout and I love the square design.....but I’m tired of big phones LOL.

the blue mini. same here (hmmm... was hoping i was the only one with a blue mini). got a thin blue case for it on amazon, and it's great. great size, weight, too.

Trying the max size for the first time (moving from X) . Male with medium hands, feel like I’m going to drop it holding and trying to use with one hand. Probably need a

Apple store worker in Australia suggested Apple Care and highlighted that replacing anything on the rear surface (camera, glass damage) would be AUD$950! She said this was due to all components on the rear surface being moulded as one. I believe this is unlike like my IPhone X, where I have been able to replace a misbehaving rear camera for about AUD$150

also noticed that on bottom right edge, only 4 holes for the phone microphone, whereas my X has 6, unsure of the significance of this?

Speakers for music; perhaps my imagination, but sounds slightly more tinny compared to my iPhone X. At best, sounds the same. I expected an improvement in quality with a unit that is larger and 3 years newer, however perhaps this has not been a priority for Apple

Can you not fill the unused space with widgets etc?

Waiting on my Max delivery today.
I don’t think so - the space doesn’t look like it’s quite tall enough to accommodate another row of anything. I’ll play around with it this weekend and see what I can do with it. It’s not a deal breaker for me - at one point with my X I had a Home Screen with just a couple of apps on it, on purpose to eliminate the clutter.

Regarding the yellow screen, it's the same as the 12 and 12 Pro (I haven't had a max). Apple clearly has these displays tuned a bit on the warm side - and then on top of that, they clearly have True Tone more aggressive than normal this year. If you only look at the new screen and stop comparing to your previous screen, you won't even notice after a little while.
I thought my 8+ display was great. I was wrong! My Pro Max is so much better!

I love the warmer tone of the Pro Max (yes, TrueTone is on). To me the whites are much more natural and the display is much easier on my eyes.

This is a superb device—appearance, responsiveness, features, battery life, camera—everything.

Finally ready to upgrade from my 8. Leaning towards the mini but I kinda really want the telephoto lens in the 12 Pro. As much as I wanted to pre-order, I'm hoping to go check them out at the Store this weekend. I'm expecting to fall in love with the size of the mini, which is similar to my 8 but with more screen.

iphone 11 pro max users will be very disappointed when they find out battery life is worse than last year without even using 5g ...
^^^ This. Coming from 11 PM to 12 PM I knew that was a downside, but the form factor honestly makes it up for me. I loved the squared off edges of the past and I’m glad they’re back, rounded never felt 100% to me. 5G is irrelevant to me (and most people) unless you REALLY need it. Might end up just switching it to LTE only.

I can't write anything additional about the 12 Pro Max that hasn't been said a million times. My only input is, I got the clear MagSafe case from Apple and it's insanely slippery. Pressing the volume rockers makes the phone slip in my hand. Going to have to return it and go with a leather case instead for the extra friction.
Could always go case-free if you’re into that. I rarely put a case on my XS Max, never on my 11 Pro Max, and I’ll never put a case on my 12 Pro Max. As long as you take care of it, it’ll look near-perfect for a while. No scratches, cracks or anything for me without the case. Especially on this new Pacific Blue... can’t cover it up, too pretty.

Received my 12 Pro Max this morning. Not noticeable bigger than my 11 Pro Max. But that screen looks so nice when holding them together.

However, I’m not digging it. I find the glossy band weird and not nice looking around it. Mine is blue and it doesn’t work for me. My daughters 12 in white looks much better in my opinion.

And my gosh it is a fingerprint nightmare. I’m probably in the minority; has iPhones since the iPhone, but this is the first time I feel like returning mine.

12 Pro Max setup, coming from 11 Pro Max. Quality build, feels better in the hand. Despite the size not being substantially different, it feels larger in my hand. Maybe that’s my brain saying “the extra 0.2 is HUGE,” or maybe it’s the square edges that make that difference. Either way, loving it so far and excited to get 14.3 DB loaded on later to test Apple ProRAW.

I have a XS Max as a work phone so now I’ll have to get used to going back and forth between round and square.

I will always go case-free on this phone. Did it with my 11 PM as well. Just too nice to cover up, especially the new Pacific Blue.

Coming from 11 Pro Max to 12 Pro Max and definitely digging the additional screen real-estate. It’s not an enormous difference, but it’s noticeable and appreciated.

I have the Xs Max and the 12 pro Max side by side. There is definitely a slight yellow tint /warmer display color compared to the Xs Max. The Xs Max looks more true to white than what the 12 Pro Max does.

is this normal?

Yep. Same every year. Give it a few days and yellow goes away or you’ll forget about it. Next year the iPhone 13 will be yellow at first compared to the 12 and so on.

I’ve moved from the 11 pro max to the 12 mini. My wife is still questioning my sanity but I absolutely love the mini. I wasn’t using the pro features and tried to tell myself that having the best phone version justified the bulk. I’m typing this one handed with a beer in the other hand. That’s a winner for me. Also it’s a pretty special little device

My buddy just got a 12 Pro and the square edges make it much nicer to hold. Otherwise, it looks identical in every way but a slightly bigger display. Only thing I noticed that looks bad is the stainless on his graphite looks chromed. Makes it look cheaper than the SS on the X to 11 Pros.
Yay I’m not the only one thinking that. I think my Pacific Blue looks horrible and cheap like that. Something I’d expect on low cost generic Android phones. I find what they’ve done on the 12, my daughter has that one. Much classier. My 11 Pro Max looks much more premium than my 12 Pro Max. First time ever I’m returning an iPhone.

I thought they were just reflections, but having it in the flesh there really is a colour difference between the camera and the rest of the phone. Why? Just why? And then there is that glossy plastic looking band around it. Also rarely shown up in the picture.

I just got my iPhone 12 Pro Max and I notice it has the same yellow. I’m upgrading from a iPhone XS Max and there is a huge difference. I noticed while transferring my data. I hope they can fix this
They wont. see the yellow screen thread. Its common at launch. A batch is yellow/defective, and another batch is clear/correct. If the yellow bothers you, return it. I definitely would :).

It's normal to see defects like this at launch. Correct screens exist and many have gotten them. Unfortunately it's a lottery. If you don't like it (and I am assuming you dont since you posted), you can play the swap game. Do a retail full return, rebuy, hope for a better one. Also, express replacement through Applecare is always an option. They will swap no questions asked.

As to why Apple does this every year - they can. Too many complacent people just assuming thats the way it's supposed to be, when others with the same phones are enjoying a superior screen and experience.

A slightly warmer screen (noted by the user you quoted) is hardly a “defect.”

Its not slightly. Its a yellow physical film that makes all colors look yellow and muted with lower contrast and brightness. I'm talking 5000k or so, nowhere near true 6500K calibration.
