Yeah I agree, imagine one of your memories as a kid being your dad staring at you with a black mask and a wide grin… but I think they used the June keynote just to show off the Spatial Video, since most will just use an iPhone with those capabilities (which at the time of WWDC wasn’t out yet, hence why they showed it off on the headset)
It would have been amazing to have 3D video of my family from way back when I was a child and they were young. It’s too late for me, but for the next generation, they will have memories preserved in 3D video/movie format. Which really is pretty amazing that the filming will be done on consumer-level devices.

In 10 years it won't look like the headset coming out next year. Search for what cell phones looked like back in the 1980s - the people having them then couldn't imaging what we do today with an iPhone. The headset technology in the future will probably be more like a pair of sunglasses - which are already considered normal to wear.
Or — watch Hot Tub Time Machine for a quick visit to the 1980s and the advent of ‘cell’ phones. I lived through that, but I had forgotten how truly gigantic and ridiculous-looking they were. We’re talking nearly the size of a shoe box!

This is gonna be an expensive reiteration of a Touch Bar in about 5-7 years.

Apple just don’t have the vision to produce another revolutionary product like they did with the dream team. They are the Scuderia Ferrari of tech.

Vision ! Oh, you stitch me up…

I think it’s great to have the ability to record this on the iPhone you might not be able to use it in the near future but who know in 5 years time and you have recorded some important memories in spatial video you may cherish the fact that you recorded them and captured that moment in time that way

I'm pretty much sure which branch will be the early adopters for this technology. As Apple would like to control even the contents, Chinese brands will copy everything and make it wide open for everything. Many will get visited by Feds in coming years.

HTC Evo 3D. You could even watch the 3D videos on the phone. No need for another device.

One usage I see is folks like me who are currently driving 3 desktop displays instead using an AVP. My three displays + mounts cost total more than an AVP.

It can’t replace a desktop or a laptop. It needs those to create virtual displays and to run MacOS apps. It can’t really replace three real displays either, depending on what kind of work you’re doing. In the current form it’s an accessory, not a fully stand alone product like a Mac.

It is indeed a very interesting tech. The possibilities are way more than just shooting some family moments. Real estate, architects, entertainment agencies, etc … but you would need a 2000 dollars 1 gig (because files are heavy) iPhone pro max + 3700 dollars VP + MBP (for editing and storing a large quantity of spatial images) … I will personally buy 2 for my various pro needs and know many that will do too

A 128gb pro would probably do fine, given the files are just 130MB/minute. But in a pro application as you say, recording to flash drives is probably a must.

Vision Pro might be like cybertruck. Lots of people are getting two or three. Sandy Munro said he knew someone with 130 preorders.

An iPad is a fully stand alone product. My wife uses an ipad as her daily computer. Apple is releasing more high-end apps for IOS, like Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro. All the apps I most frequently use on my Mac are available in IOS. Once I attach a bluetooth keyboard to the AVP, much like my wife has a keyboard attached to her iPad, the AVP is a fully stand alone computer.

It’s an iPad on your face. It isn’t a Mac. The level of disappointment people will feel when they finally admit this to themselves will be significant.

3D has been a failure since the 1960's, but I think this is different. Specifically, the fact each eye gets a fully independent and partitioned signal and dynamic movement/head tracking should be something completely different. There's still a chance it doesn't catch on, in which case the Vision Pro enables a 2D video viewing experience not bound to physical constraints. 55 inch TV's are common because that's about as big of a box one can fit into a car.

Photos you can only view individually. It's not sounding that compelling

hahaha...so, now you're not saying "it's not a stand alone" you're saying "it's not a mac." :)

I've never seen anyone express that they think the AVP is a mac. Can you show me a few examples of people being confused on this point? Any big reviewers out there confuse this point?

In reference to people going on and on about how this will replace their LAPTOP and or DESKTOP.

It is NOT a Mac. It can NOT replace a Mac. It can act as a MONITOR for a Mac but it can NOT run desktop software natively.

Is this clear enough for you?
