Apparently you believe Apple's 1 billion active and repeat customers are sheep and have no agency over their tech purchases.
I believe Apple has 1 billion active customers. I also believe half of them feeling trapped in an ecosystem it’s hard to leave.

But the EU regulators are working hard to solve that so I can have free choice in the future 😊

RCS support for iMessage, buying apps outside the AppleTax store, USB-C to be able to use and connect to standard devices, are some first examples 😊

Fortunately, I have plentiful USB-C chargers--one 20 W Aukey, one 120 W two connector Baseus, Anker 735 65 W charger, and an Anker 65 W charging station. No worries about lack of chargers for my upcoming iPhone 16 Plus 512 GB...

EU didn’t enforce RCS. You need to get your facts straight. The EU did not consider iMessage as a “Gatekeeper”, thus the rule was never enforced.

Again you are misinformed, EU USB-C has to do with charging only, has nothing to do with connectivity or what devices they support through that port. Apple could have avoided it completely by removing the port and going to wireless charging only. Thankfully they didn’t!

Outside of the charging mandate, What apple does, or does not enable for connectivity and speeds is still up to them for these ports.

How are they trapped?

Simply purchase a Samsung, goggle, Motorola, Nokia, LG, Xiaomi, Sony, Asus, HTC, Huawei, Lenovo, Oppo, etc. phone and find happiness.

That's what "having agency" is about. Much better than spending your life feeling "woe is me, woe is me."

Apple people are so brainwashed in trying to save the planet that they now focus on BS packaging that nobody cares vs improving the new iPhones with features that make people want to upgrade their phones. I personally decided not to upgrade mine this year since the 16 is not worth it in my opinion. And I couldn’t care less for what they use on their packaging.

Please feel free to enlighten me on how they are better for how I use them.
Some examples:

More RAM means being able to use more AI related things. That’s why Apple Intelligence doesn’t run on older iPhones than last year’s 15 Pro.

Better camera’s with better aperture for low light and bigger sensors for better photos

120hz refresh rates for all the models for a smooth scrolling experience, OS animations

More storage on your phones. Most come with 256/512 as a standard

The AI-related things already work and by the time Apple is ready they probably offer the same Apple promises for next year.

Do yes… as a user you’ll notice those benefits

I don’t understand a thing you’re talking about? What “agency” and what does “woe is me” means.

I’m not a native English speaker but I don’t understand.

The first iPhone 16 Pro unboxing video has been shared on Weibo (via Majin Bu), revealing Apple's new packaging design for its latest flagship smartphone.

iphone-16-pro-unboxing.jpg

With Apple keen to promote its environmental sustainability credentials, there hasn't been much to the unboxing experience with recent iPhone models, and that looks to be the case even more so this year. Assuming the packaging isn't region specific, Apple appears to have done away with the little booklet containing SIM card and other basic instructions.

Also, like the iPad Pro and iPad Air models that were unveiled earlier this year, there are no Apple stickers included in the box. All you get is the iPhone 16 and a braided USB-C cable. It's not too surprising – Apple previously announced that it aimed to achieve plastic-free packaging by 2025.

iPhone 16 Pro models have several new features, including larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays with thinner bezels, longer battery life, a new Camera Control button for quick access to camera functions, a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera, a faster A18 Pro chip, Wi-Fi 7 support, faster 5G, faster charging, and more.

Pre-orders for iPhone 16 models began at the end of last week, and shipping estimates for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max on Apple's online store in the U.S. have since slipped into October for many configurations. Many of the lower-end iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models are delayed from between 7 days and 2-3 weeks after launch-day delivery on Friday, September 20.

I’m bummed that the last moonshot from Apple, where there were no leaks of the hardware and the rumor-mill was on fire, was the Vision Pro. An expensive, pointless, vision-less product.

Hey Apple! Try introducing a new design to your main money maker, the iPhone! Why has the Pro phone looked the same for the last 5 years? Was Jonny Ive far more crucial than we thought?

I miss the segments of keynotes where Jonny was in his white room explaining why the new product looked like it did. I miss that because back then new products looked different.

I don’t know if Apple could get any more boring. And their one attempt of something big has been a total failure.

Sad to see…

Huawei has dethroned Apple out of the top 5 this year. Since the new iPhone 16/16pro’s can’t compete on technical specifications and Apple Intelligence won’t arrive till somewhere in 2025, I see a further decline for Apple.

If Huawei wasn’t banned over here it would have a bigger market share as Apple. We Dutch like the best for cheap and are famous for that 😎
Apple and Samsung have a combined market share of 40%. So not sure what metrics you are using.

Some decent, and some questionable points there.

a. In my use case, AI is nothing I am interested in or plan on using. I have also not run into a RAM ceiling as iOS is really efficient in this regard, similar to how OS X handles memory on M-series processors. But Agree more RAM would be great!

B. My cameras are on the same par as the Pixel 8 and Samsung cameras that came out last year. I have no complaints on photos, and strongly believe Video is vastly superior on iPhone.

C. I have 120hz refresh rate

D. I don’t need more than 512 storage on my pro phone or Pixel 8 Pro.

E. Again, don’t Care about AI

No, I wouldn’t notice the benefits.

Had you read my posts you could have come back with, ”Android and Samsung” support a more Desktop like OS when attached to a monitor (Dex in Samsung case is a huge win). While I like the Side-by-side support built into my Pixel 8, the resolution for attached monitors is poor, and there really aren’t too many good apps that (on the android side) that justify my needing to do this.

Having agency means you are in control of your life, what you do, having the ability to influence your behavior and decisions, the ability to do tasks that you believe are important, ability to make choices independent of others, etc. You're in control of your destiny (and not in control by some other person or corporation).

"Woe is me" is a common expression used by (or to describe) people who are perpetually unhappy and sad. They can't get out of the hole they believe they're stuck in. They have no agency over their lives.

Oké. You’re talking about your needs.

I am talking about what the competition has to offer (technical specifications) and what’s Apple is offering with the 16/16pro

When you compare it side by side you’ll see that the new iPhones fall short.

Only the pro’s come with 120hz refresh rates and it’s a common standard thing.

You don’t like AI but I find some very useful and time savers. Apple not releasing their AI related offerings in Europe this year and maybe next year, will set them even further behind in competitors offerings.

Read below:

Huawei surpassed Apple and Samsung, in 2018 and 2020, respectively, to become the largest smartphone manufacturer worldwide.
I'm not arguing that they took the lead 4-6 years ago. I said they are selling nowhere near a billion phones a year like the other posted claimed. Their sales have also dropped significantly in the last few years. They only sold 60 million phones in 2023. They sold 200 million in 2022 and sold 35 million in 2021........and in 2024 they are expected to sell less than 70 million phone again.

It’s pointless comparing specifications when the other phones don’t run the right OS.

The operating system is the single most important specification people look for when shopping for a phone. Just about everything else is secondary.

120hz is common on flagship Android phones and is starting to work down to lower models as well. Samsung’s A series still uses a lot of LCD screens for instance and only their upper tier use 120hz. The A06 (a 2025 phone) has an LCD with only 90hz.

I am highly active on the Alternatives to iOS devices forum, and don’t consider myself an Apple Zelot. I like Apple, but use other ecosystems Equally.

Cheers

Which is great if you are prepared to use/live with android. Most iOS users aren’t though which is why the spec comparison is meaningless.

Android on a Google Pixel is a good experience. I highly endorse it. They are taking steps to make it more secure, and there is a trickle of more robust apps being deployed because of this.

-1000% interest in trying or using Harmony OS though.

Apple fan since (I don’t wanna declare my age ;) ) , but a long time. If there wasn’t competition, would Apple bother getting any better?
