First iPhone 3G S Unboxing Photos Showing Compass and Voice Control

Ohh well. Apple hasn't been totally sleeping on the hardware-side after all. I'm glad that they, after all, added some minor hardware improvements:rolleyes:

Very curious to hear more about that oleophobic coating on the screen. Wonder if it's also been added to the back - it certainly looks that way.

iPhone 3G S or Palm Pre--decisions...decisions. The Pre is so much smaller and fits in your pocket. I guess I'll decide once the 3G S comes out, but it's the same size as the 3G. I was hoping for a huge reduction in size.

I hope the coating doesn't affect screen quality. I'd gladly take fingerprints over this coating if this affects the quality like most screen protectors do.

The more i see this thing, the more i feel less inclined to upgrade. It just screams stop-gap to me. It looks identical to the old one!

Smaller? I think it's bordering on almost too small to use now.

What??? You think the 3G is too small?? It's right up there with the biggest phones (width), like the omnia HD and touch HD. I was hoping this revision was gonna get a small reduction in size, like less or no bezel.

Yeah I think it's as small as it can be and still be more than a phone. If its just a phone, then I am fine with the super small micro chip embedded into my skull. But this is a mini computer. I need to be able to use the screen. And you lose half your screen anytime you type now. What happens if you make it smaller?

Smaller? Well, where should the battery be? People are complaining a lot about the battery in the 3g...

In the box:

iPhone 3G S
Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic
Dock Connector to USB Cable
USB Power Adapter
Documentation
SIM eject tool

The one thing I noticed on the Apple website was the comparison between the 3G and the 3G S:

Does this mean that 3G S users get the Apple in-ear headphones with a remote and mic that usually cost $79 and are actually supposed to be pretty good? Or are they the ones that were boxed with the 3G that were pretty rubbish and people buying the 3G now are getting something different?

If they are the in ear headphones this may actually help to explain the frankly ridiculous pay as you go prices for the 3G S in the UK:

  • iPhone 3G 8GB - £342.50
  • iPhone 3G S 16GB - £440.40
  • iPhone 3G S 32GB - £538.30
(from the O2 website)

That's over $890 for the 32gb version, and doesn't include top ups, monthly internet after a free 12 months, let alone all the extra costs that obviously crop up once you find the app store

The plastic casing looks much different than the iPhone 3G. I assume they've reformulated the plastic to be stronger so they don't run into cracking problems again.

Am i the only one?

The iphone 3DS, what a let down!!

no physical change

slightly better camera

might be double the speed but , personally ive had no problem with the speed of my 3G!

i think ill hold off upgrading to the 3GS, (not worth paying £175 for the phone, and starting a new 18 month contract for £35 pm for 600 min and 500 texts), i will wait till my contract runs out in febuary, and eagerly await for news of the 4th Gen iphone, hopefully it'll have facelift, or the full works with, proper bluetooth sharing!

Replacements earphones?

So what are the best replacement earphones (under $100) for the iPhone? Any suggestions?

one was to tell the difference between the 2 is the text for the word "iPhone" is the same color silver as the apple logo.

Why the complaining about no visual change? How does one improve that which is already perfect?

Anyway, I think the fact that the compass app uses GPS to figure out your declination and give you true north is wicked cool. :D

I would hold the phones side by side before you make any decisions. The iPhone is a lot smaller in person than it looks in pictures.

The palm is .6" shorter and .1" narrower, but .19" thicker. Overall the volume of the iphone is less than the volume of the Pre.
