First iPhone 5 Orders Have Begun Shipping, Line Begins at 5th Avenue Apple Store

Over the weekend, several readers have let us know that iPhone 5 orders have begun shipping from China. It's common for Apple to spread out shipments for the week prior to the launch with special instructions to couriers to hold deliveries at local warehouses until the target date. In this case, the iPhone 5 is set to be delivered to customers on September 21st.

Those who are impatient to receive their tracking number from Apple, may be able to determine it from the UPS website. TSX posts how to obtain your UPS tracking number. The same technique may work for Fed-Ex as well. Apple uses both carriers for iPhone deliveries.

Readers are even decoding serial numbers to find when their iPhone 5 was manufactured. The earliest recorded manufacture date is the week of August 5-11. Those who ordered from Apple.com can see their iPhone 5's serial number in Apple's Support Profile page.

Meanwhile, Fortune has posted that the line has already begun at New York City's 5th Avenue Apple store. The line, however, currently consists of those there for promotional/paid purposes rather than personal purchases.

Jumping Jupiters!! I can't wait for mine to arrive!! Hopefully some of us will get lucky with early delivery.

With that said, this is my first preordered iPhone. I will miss the camaraderie from waiting in line with other enthusiasts.

I did my tracking on my computer and it shows that it found two packages with that tracking # both in ZhengZhou, China. Does that mean I will possibly get two iPhones?? They charged my account for just 1 upgraded iphone 5 32gb. Anyone else seeing that?

Not as much fun, not everyone sit on their behind all their life. I personally have done it only once, iPad 1, and I can see its a blast made two friend that we still keep in touch. These things are fun just like burning man.

The rediculous thing is that my one is shipping from China - to the UK - only to get delivered right back again. It's going to have clocked up quite a carbon footprint before it's even in my hands!

Mine's not showing up where I can find the serial numbers from the link provided...So then I panicked and thought my order didn't go through...but I went to my orders and saw this...I should get it on the 21st correct?
