The first round of pre-orders are already en route to their destinations, although Apple has arranged for carriers to hold deliveries until the official Friday launch. It is not unheard of, however, for a handful of deliveries to slip through early.

I checked my status on UPS and it says delivery for Friday 9/21, by end of the day. Does that mean there is no chance that it will be delivered earlier like Thursday? Or could Apple (having told UPS/FedEx to hold them until Friday) notify them to start delivering them early? My iPhone left Anchorage, Alaska around Midnight local time this morning and who knows where it will be later tonight (hoping it lands in NYC!)

Coudln't there be bubbling around the letters? I mean, it is a new back and all?

As for the FCC lettering and stuff, I have no idea.

Look at all of those fingerprints on the back. I'm glad I chose to go white this time. No racist.

I think the plastic protective sheet wasn't peeled off yet. The back is suppose to be anodized aluminum with a sliver of glass at the top and bottom.

Pretty obvious the plastic is still on the back. lol

Not sure why you wouldn't be able to see the FCC markings with the plastic on though. Might be a fake.

As noted above, phones sold only in the US are not required by law to post regulatory symbols on the device. Once again, take a look at the Verizon-only model of the iPhone 4.

For anyone saying the black looks fugly. Have you not seem the Engadget hands on gallery. The white looks great, but the black is all class and no sass.

Cross-posted. Why aren't there any FCC Markings?

Image

There are FCC Markings. Look at the original picture carefully and you can see it. The FCC wording on the back of the iPhone 5 is "dark," unlike the iPhone 4S and the packaging plastic is reflecting enough that it isn't easy to see. Also, the back of the iPhone is a brushed aluminum like on the MacBook Pro, but in black and the "Apple logo" and word "iPhone" are less brushed, so they aren't sticking to the plastic the same way the rest of the back of the iPhone is.

I say it is real, but I would have removed the plastic first if it was me, because it makes the first unboxing look like crap!

I think it's ridiculous that an unboxing makes the front page of so many publications. It's not the least bit newsworthy, nor is it informative. People shouldn't care how they device is boxed; they should care how it functions.

it's real..that the case that comes with the earpods

I think the theory is that since the earpods is available already someone bought it and shoved it in a black box with some white cables and such and called it the iPhone 5 unboxing. I think it's real. I'm just backing up the supposed theory.

My iPhone 5 16GB black appears to be delivering in Thursday. Maybe Apple's way of doing a test rollout with a few customers before Friday to test activation or just ups's failure to deliver on the date apple requested.

Louisville, KY most likely. And don't count on an earlier-than-Friday delivery. Mine's been sitting in Louiville since last night.

Am I the only person who has yet to get a shipping confirmation? Mine is supposed to be delivered on Friday but is still in the "prepairing to ship" phase. Am I alone?

If your information is showing as receiving your iphone on 9/21. Apple will update there site on Friday morning to show your package as being shipped FYI.

Yeah, sure. We believe you.
