you are forgetting why people jailbreak in the first place, apple doesnt give you alot of room to move around with their products,

Yeah because they don't want things like this worm happening. I'm glad companies like Apple lock down their stuff.

Then again, I rub off as a commie bastard.

Only affects noobs who don't follow directions to change the root password.

ssh is NOT required for jailbreak
ssh is NOT required for unlock
ssh DO recommend changing the root password

Oh course they are. Gotta spread that FUD!

FFFFUUUUU-------
I have that god**** song stuck in my head!
"Never gunna give you up........."

LOL. It's contagious.

I'll never understand the vigilant anti-jailbreakers who come to message boards like this one and denigrate people who jailbreak their phones

I have no problem with people who jailbreak their phones who know what they're doing.

You yourself said you changed your password. Great. You're doing something to your phone that you understand.

What I have a problem with is people who post articles encouraging people to jailbreak who probably don't know what their doing. They make it sound like it's super-simple and you don't need to understand what you're doing to do it. Just follow this checklist!

As this proves, that's simply not true. You have to have some understanding of how all this stuff works.

So yes, I've pressed back against the pro-jailbreakers on this site. Not because I care if THEY jailbreak, but because I get frustrated when I see them pushing people into it who probably shouldn't be doing it. Or who should at least be studying it in more depth first.

I know some people are just "anti-jailbreak" and no, I don't get that. But some of the negative posts here are from people like me who are just trying to make people slow down and do this stuff right instead of just rushing into it.

:D:D Too funny.

The by-product of which is to make it vulnerable! People aren't going to render their iPhones KNOWINGLY vulnerable, obviously. But they're hacking them. Do you see the issue here??

It's circumventing the iPhone's standard security measures.

You jailbreak, you take the risk. And you're going to blame Apple because some people WANT to jailbreak because they feel (unlike the majority) that Apple is too restrictive, so they have the right??

ROFL

no you need to understand how this worm even works. i said it earlier, it relies on users not changing the default password, when you setup a new machine, and make a user account do you change the password? yes?

the worm is not able to infect users that change the password. so jailbroken phones are still safe if you have the INSTRUCTIONS.

Hi,

People, give the jailbreak community some slack. Poor password security can happen to anyone of us.

I wonder if Rick Astley will send a cease and desist order??

s.

Let me repeat, this is only the case if you have SSH installed. You don't need ssh to jailbreak.

so let me just get this straight, if you jailbroke but didn't install ssh this does not effect you, correct? i jailbroke and unlocked my girlfriends phone so she could use it with her old att plan and she hasn't installed anything from cydia (either did i).

Something funny about this quote. It's like you're obsessed with Apple and would get heartbroken if anything negative makes it to the mainstream.

On a side note, I don't think the average viewer, maybe even the average iphone owner would even know what jailbroken is.

For me is not obsession, but due to the fact that some people might own some AAPL stocks, leaving the jailbroken part out of the headlines, has a negative impact on Apple, thus affecting the stock. While I agree that there are many who take the apple name/brand too seriously, there are others which have money invested on it. Plus if you own something with the Apple brand, you more or less have money invested on the company (resale value).

in b4 un-jailbroken user gloating

EDIT: ****

(just kidding) I think this whole thing is rather funny. I have never jailbroken any of my iPhones, but I'm surprised someone would be so upset as to create a worm to teach them a lesson, as funny as the joke is. It also makes me wonder how safe an UN-jailbroken iPhone is...hm.

Lol. You do understand the nature of this "worm" right? Default ssh password. Any idiot out there who runs an SSH server with the default password deserves this ****.

Let's do the following. Open it for users who actually know what they are doing, lock it down for people who cannot deal with the responsibility.

Yes, those horrible people who want to be able to use a device that they paid their hard-earned money for in whatever way they see fit instead of what Apple chooses for them. The horror.

Yes and you can also live with your worms.

This is pretty cool. Where can I find this worm? I want that background!

Yeah and to also get apps for free that you should be paying for.

How many of us here need to tell you and those who think like you that not all of us who have jailbroken our devices are pirating apps? I have not pirated a single application. Not one. I have paid for everything on my iPod Touch that came with a price tag, and even a few on Cydia as well. I have no interest in pirating apps whatsoever. What interests me is making the device look the way I want it to look, and to install some functionality that Apple deems unworthy. For example, it's great having VPN built-in to the phone, but what good is it to a network admin like myself if I can't connect to my damn servers once I'm connected? That's where Cydia's OpenSSH and MobileTerminal are godsends. It recently saved me several hours when I had to troubleshoot and solve a problem when I was out of town visiting and didn't have my laptop with me.

Hmm... and people wonder why Apple tries to stop jailbreaking. Jailbreaking tampers with your iPhone's security.

Umm... just download it from the front page? It's just a picture.

If someone wants to jailbreak their iPhone then go right ahead, I have no issue with it unless the purpose is to steal apps.

However, if you are too stupid to follow instructions or use common sense and change a password for something that allows SSH access to the device then you deserve to face the consequences.

A lesson hard learned has more impact afterall.

In this case it is user stupidity that tampers with security.

It doesn't matter how many times you tell them. They'll never understand. These people don't think the way you or I do. I think the correct term is 'rationally'.

You can use bittorrent to pirate stuff, should it be banned like jailbreaking?

I can use my MacBooks audio input to record music illegally from the radio. Should that be disabled/removed?

This is what malicious software should be.

It would be great if when you went to change the image a box popped up, "Never tell a lie and desert you, Ok/Cancel ?"
