And thinking about it . I guess Apple will be pushing and seeding the need of the iWatch by releasing the uncomfortable Phablet size iPhone to drive iWatch sales, as many would prefer to talk to their watch instead of reaching out to the monstrous device.

Apple have been so far behind in the screen resolution arms race that they better knock it out of the park with this one. This phone better be resolutionary if I'm gonna give up my S5. :D

this will be nice but no way Apple will make those tiny bezels

Ok, but what about this,
Everyone beleaves a dummy, but they don' t believe more realistic pictures like this at macfixit.

I think they need to pixel double again.

Changing screen rez is a BIG thing to do and something you don't want to do often.

Ideally the next screen rez, will be THE last need to change it for a long time.

Anything less than pixel double will still make them look in second place.

They don't need to beat anything in a spec war. But they do really need to be at least in the pack of front runners to be respected and not seen as trailing.

I'm sure LG or Samsung will of been able to supply them with a great screen to use

People like you are exactly what puts me off about this site. Typical Apple fans who expect everything to be beyond prefect, even a simple illustration who an perhaps ordinary guy made just to show how a display size would look in a hand. But no, it was a shocking image for a lots of drama members around here!!

Drop it already and get a life if you don't have one.

I think it was a joke, matey … just relax :)

4.7 inch is about 18% bigger than the 4 inch version.
What is the added benefit of that?
It will give customers more choice , that' s all.
I think there will even be a 3.8 or 4 inch iphone6 mini around april 2015.
I think you are right on them releasing a smaller iPhone sometime during next year, that makes a lot of sense for a low cost emerging market, have they determined how App Developers would be handling all these variations (I'm not one so I really don't know how the new development tools help with this).

I mean that 18% difference might not be the only thing to distinguish them, what extra hardware feature(s) would the bigger models have to make them worth the extra amount of money that Apple will charge? Storage size? Flash and camera? Stereo speakers sound? Will the 5.5 run iPad Apps?

You don't speak for everyone:rolleyes:

Most people would love a larger screen.

You don't necessarily speak for "most"
I have a Galaxy S3 and am looking very hard for a iPhone 5S to replace it. One of the main reasons is the much better one handed use I get on my iPod Touch. So, the smaller form factor / screen size is preferred... FOR ME.
When I got my S3, I was pretty excited for the larger screen, but that quickly faded with the more cumbersome use with one hand. So from my perspective, Apple has been right on that stance. I think this move is reactionary and it will be very interesting if the only way to get the smaller device from Apple in the future is to buy an older model.

By the way, posted this using my iPod Touch when the S3 was sitting right there next to me on my nightstand.

4.7 inch will be 1704x960 .
That is 1.5x the res of the 1136x640 of the iphone 5, that is conveniant for the app developpers. Read the article about that on macrumors.

But the 5.5 will be 2560x1440, that is ..... About
1704x960 times 1.5

It makes sense...

A 2272x1280 would be a more elegant solution. But i know LG just developed this screen, so, it is a guess.

That is like an iMac ???

I didn't think that a 5.5 inch iPhone would be in my future because the thought of holding that massive device to my head is just silly. However, I got to thinking about how often does that really occur nowadays? Between Bluetooth, speaker phone, Siri, and text message very rarely for me personally. Depending on pricing, I might just be an owner of a iPhablet.

It will be interesting.

Not even having a 1080p screen res, when Android is just leaving that behind would seem an odd thing to offer for your latest cutting edge model.

I'm not saying it NEEDS it. I'm just saying that when you are at the peak of your game and in a market with others offering similar products, you don't really want to be the one trailing the specs esp as you are looked upon as "the best" arguably.

It's a well known thing on these forums to say "specs don't matter" when Apple has lower ones, but to say "yes, we have better specs than you" When Apple does. A defense mechanism I guess.

Samsung has just shown their 2560 x 1440 screen phone.

LG also showing off the 2,560 x 1,440 res also.

Would apple dare to offer 1704x960 ?

And I always thought that 3.5" was the perfect size for a phone... At least that's what EVERYBODY here has been saying for years. And then came the 4" iPhone. And now that Apple has finally decided to follow the competition, 5.5" is no longer "way too big"...

Well, not EVERYBODY. I was perfectly fine w/ 3.5" but took on the 4" iPhone 5 b/c I really had no other choice than to be left in the past with an iPhone 4. But the iPhone 5 was only a tad taller so it still fit in my front pocket OK and the lighter weight helped.

Now it looks like 4" will go by the wayside for 4.7 and 5.5". I stopped by a Verizon kiosk the other day to glance at the Android Phablets. Yes, 5.5" is "way too big" for me. No way will I ever own one even if it becomes the only iPhone size. I'm not all that gung-ho about 4.7" either. I think it might be the max size my front pocket will hold without forcing it.

I'd buy the 5.5" model in a heartbeat if it had minimal bezels, but unfortunaly that seems very unlikely based on what we've seen so far.

Even the 4.7" version is pushing it, being larger than last years Galaxy S4(which has a 5.0" screen!

The leaks and mock-ups may have got it wrong, but it looks like Apple is only focused on thinness when it comes to reducing the footprint.

While thin is nice, the problem for me is tallness. Even the iPhone 5 feels too tall in some of my jeans pockets. Had Apple gotten rid of the home button, the iPhone 6 could have the same height and only be somewhat wider.

Apple should cater to the wishes of folks like myself and release an iPad Mini that can make phone calls. I don't make many phone calls, but I use the mobile Internet very often, and I certainly don't want to carry two mobile gadgets with me. The iPad Mini has a wonderful form factor, I like that hardware very much. But it doesn't make much sense to buy such a device when you already own a 5.something" smartphone.

I concur. 90% of my smartphone usage is Internet, maybe 9% WhatsApp, with phone conversations down at 1%. Using an iPad Mini for making calls might look at bit geeky but it's so rare I wouldn't mind.

I would buy a phone-enabled iPad Mini tomorrow. I doubt I will be buying the 5.5-in iPhone 6.

Please no more...

All this iPhone 6 stuff is making me sick. Now every "who ever" comes with a piece of plastic showing is a mock up of the original, I mean... it has already showed 100,000 time already, why need to show more? everybody has the measurements 3 months ago. Can we cover another story please?

Beating a dead horse.

Lots of good discussion here, indicating support for a 5.5" model, but the need to get the details spot on regarding bezel sizes, screen resolution and thickness of the device. This may be one time when Apple's obsession with thin will allow them to get away with compromises in other areas such as the bezel size. I have to imagine they've built every notional size of this phone and tested it obsessively to decide on what form factor makes the most sense. I won't rush to judgement until I hold one in my hand.

No, people like YOU are what puts people off this site. Overly aggressive, jumped up, pompous folk who take ridiculous offence to a random post and then start flapping their gums to the poster about, "Getting a life".

Here's a "friendly" hint. People who log onto internet forums to tell people to "get a life" tend to not have much of one themselves and can only act the "big man" via an internet persona from behind a keyboard.

The guy asked, I would wager jokingly, that someone could tape the display to their face to see how that giant screen looks held up to your face. And then you went off like an Anger Management patient.

You have issues.

Ok, but galaxy s4 is wider and even the s5 has bigger side bezels.
But do you like the htc one(m7) of last year?
The iphone 6 will be about 0,4 mm taller, but more than 1mm less wide.
I tried the htc one (m7) in the shop, and i love the size, is very usable with one hand.
Only LG has very small bezels since the G2. Love it!

Isn't the 4.7" screen something like 38% more screen? You don't see a benefit in that?

Can someone tape it on their face to show the size?

LOL, thats a good one.

----------

Am I am excited about the iPhone 6. It will be my first launch Pre-order ever. Well, assuming they will offer pre-orders. If not pre-orders, getting in line at the Apple Store...for the first time too. Am will be upgrading from iPhone 4s 16 GB White. Will get a 32GB iPhone 6 4.7".

Before any discussion starts, let's remind ourselves that if you don't like it you don't have to buy it. ;)

Personally, I JUST CAN'T WAIT NO MORE !

Same. I am SO READY for a 5.5" screen. Please Apple, make the 5.5" a reality, I beg of you. :D
