If the wait has been so excruciating, couldn't Verizon customers have changed to AT&T? Or do telephone companies own your soul over there?

Verizon network is that good that I would wait for the iphone to come to their network for 4 years than have to settle for a lesser carrier ( AT&T ) to deal with dropped calls... its pretty useless.

Why can't anyone udnerstand that a great phone + crappy reception = useless phone.

What a great ad.
The tease is a lost art in commercials (and movie trailers) anymore. But not here. Pitch. Perfect. Anyone know the agency?

Personally, there is nothing that would make me go back to VZW. But for those that have been waiting, welcome to the party. Enjoy your 8-month old phone. ;)

dude the iphone 5 wont be that revolutionary as you may think it will have only a few upgrades so no reason to act like that

And on ATT's network, you needed a iPhone and a phone on verizon to actually make phone calls.

Not true for most people.....AT&T drops 1 additional call per 1000 compared to the leader.

What is true is that ALL Verizon iPhone users will need to choose....voice or data.

Good teaser ad.
Not quite an iPhone ad per se as there isn't really a showing of the iPhone, just an announcement.

reminding me now of that famous Apple/1984 ad. it is a buildup. A lot of people on Verizon (and some on ATT) have been waiting for this day. Sure their lives weren't on hold but patiently waiting and spreading rumors every other month. Seems most carrier ads featuring a phone aren’t really talking about the phone or its features. Most feature rich phone ads come from manufacturers. (Droid, iPhone)

This is just getting those on VZN all excited and willing to stand in lines.

i guess ill be the one to say it - that was retarded.

I am an apple fan. Not an ATT nor Verizon fan. In my opinion they are all sub par in the US.

But this commercial just doesnt really say anything. I have an iphone on ATT and this commercial did not make me think twice about my network. My mom on wants a smartphone but this commercial doesnt make it seem like she should get an iphone either.

Its a nothing ad.

Maybe they weren't aiming it at you?

It sounds like right now they are aiming it at people who are with Verizon or who want to be who want an iPhone. It doesn't sound like they are aiming it to try to pull people who are happy with AT&T away.

I'm betting the thought behind that is they don't need to. THey probably feel they will get plenty of people who have been waiting for the iphone on Verizon they don't need to try to pull anyone who isn't already wanting to be with them (For now. I'm sure once they get those they'll start trying to convince people who are happy with AT&T they are better. Every company wants to continue growing. But I bet for now they feel they can just focus on those who already want to be with them and maybe aren't cause they didn't have a certain phone yet).

And no, I'm not a Verizon fan. I'm a happy with AT&T person myself. But just cause I am happy with AT&T doesn't mean I don't think this commercial won't do what they are trying to do (Cause i don't think they're trying to get me or you away from AT&T, they're going for the easy targets, letting people who wanted Verizon know, hey, if all that held you up was lack of iphone, we have it now!).

Orly? Verizon customers like myself are used to no voice + data at the same time. No CDMA phone as I am posting this can do that. So only GSM customers would be complaining about stuff like that. For Verizon customers it is just typical.

Oh, and for those who are saying they are aiming this at their current customers, not really. The point of an ad is to garner *new* business.

But they are aiming it at former customers or people who want to be customers who have held out because they wanted the phone more than the carrier (but still would like to be on Verizon if it is possible). I'm sure there is a decent amount of them on AT&T (at least enough to justify paying for the commercial that just aims at them).

That's too bad for you Verizon customers...it's a great feature to have. A MUST for business calls (email and talk at the same time) and for anyone who needs an answer (movie times, directions, store prices, too many to name here) while talking.

Think about it. What if your local telephone company said "You can't connect your computer to the internet when you talk on your home phone". This is exactly what Verizon does today. It's a huge constraint.

Verizon customers are already used to not having voice and data simultaneously, so why do people act like it's such a big deal? And I would think that any AT&T customers who switch to Verizon are doing so because the ability to make a phone call is higher on their priority list than voice + data.

Bloomberg Business Week said last week it was almost three times as much:

As of last August, however, the percentage of dropped calls on AT&T's network had risen to 5.8 percent, compared with 2 percent for Verizon, according to a survey by Changewave Research.

Infonetics Research co-founder Michael Howard says AT&T is more conservative with its network investments and took longer to upgrade from copper wires to fiber-optic cables and other cutting-edge gear.

"Verizon planned its network with greater foresight than anyone else," says Recon Analytics *analyst Roger Entner. "They have a very well-built network, and they don't cut corners."

What is true is that ALL Verizon iPhone users will need to choose....voice or data.

As they have for years. They don't see it as a problem, because they know they'll reliably get whichever one they want to use at the time, wherever they are. Different priorities.

Eh, sort of like Power Windows in a car....once you have it, it would be very difficult to live with out it.

It was actually a nice commercial, very simple and straight to the point.

Huh? It's anything but to the point. I actually saw this ad on TV last night. Not reading MRs last night, at the time I didn't even know what the commercial was for. In fact, after watching the first half of the 30-second commercial, all I saw was clicking clocks. So, I changed the channel. Only now do I know it was for the Verizon iPhone.

I hate commercials that don't even tell what they are advertising until the very end.

A huge contraint? No...

The likelihood that someone needs to use voice + data at the same time is minimal. Millions of current verizon customers have done fine without it.

What really is a huge contraint is not being able to make and receive a call on a Phone. You may not have this issue but tons of people currently on At&t that are cancelling their contract to go to Verizon for the iphone are apparently.

So for all these years Verizon's story was that the iPhone was teh suck and we have these tres cool Android and Windows phones and crackberries and on and on and on.

Yes, we've always been at war with Eurasia! Everybody knows that!
