Good to see Apple acknowledge this issue, but I’m confused how this can be a software issue when some of us aren’t having this issue at all?
Perhaps there actually is a hardware issue (on select units) and Apple believes they can tweak the software on the bad units to the point of it not being noticeable anymore, thus avoiding a mass recall.

No. It's a software issue, not a hardware problem. It will be fixed next week
So I'm just gonna say it....
A software issue can cause hardware issues. If you don't understand how fragile the OIS systems are within a camera, I don't blame you, most people do not deal with cameras on a daily basis. But please do not spread false info on a forum.

This software issue could easily cause hardware issues with the phones optical image stabilization system which uses tiny mechanical pieces within the camera assembly to compensate for movement. The jarring shaking that is caused by this software issue could EASILY cause hardware issues.

Jury is still out on if people should replace their phones though. Will wait a few days and see.

Probably only certain focus or lighting conditions cause this loop.

1. The cameras in the videos are clearly malfunctioning. Regardless of any software issues, they shouldn't be shaking like that. Difficult to imagine the shaking behavior ever to be in spec.

2. Not everyone can reproduce the issue (apparently).

Sure seems to point to defective hardware if you ask me.

The massive camera bump comes with a lot of weight prob hence it shakes during usage. Also coincidentally Apple introduced ACTION MODE to unshake the footage. It is by design.

I had this issue with the Chase banking app. The camera couldn't focus on the text on my driver's licence, and the phone started shaking its moneymaker.

Now, if I use the standard camera app to view the driver's licence on the screen (before taking a photo), and the phone is about 15cm above the licence, the text is not in focus unless I turn on macro mode. Is that right? Should it be able to focus on the text from that distance? Any closer and it's all a blur when not in macro mode.

For those who have no issue, have they tried the apps others have mentioned, or only the native camera app? If it's software I'm not sure I get how it can only affect some phones when those phones are the same hardware and running the same software?
Not all components come from one single manufacturer. They use multiple for each component.

If you have a back-up phone, I suggest using that phone immediately.

if you do not have a back-up phone, I would suggest not using any 3rd party camera app until the software update is released. if you need to do banking deposits, I recommend gong to an ATM physically.

Once the software update is released, those affected can test to see if either A. the issue is resolved or B. The issue is mitigated but not 100% fixed.

All iPhone 14 models are within their 1-year warranty and those on Apple Care+ can get replacements. If you wish to return, you can do so. [Know that iPhone deliveries are set between Late Oct-Early Nov]

If you are on the iPhone Upgrade Program, I would recommend reaching out to Apple support to see if they can process a replacement while keeping you on the upgrade program.

This is not an emergency. This affects 3rd party apps. Not the main camera. The teens can live without posting to to tik tok for a week.
It's an emergency in the sense that it's a problem that causes hardware damage. Your typical iPhone user does not read tech news sites and will not know there's a problem. Lots of people use Snapchat and such. This is going to cause millions of support calls/visits if it's not fixed fast.

gg to those who wanted to "test" if they have the issue, now you have to force yourself to get a replacement and go through the entire process of getting a new phone. gl to those who choose to do so, here in Canada its backordered to November

Apple has developed a persistent problem with their culture of secrecy undermining software reliability upon release.

We've seen this with half-baked implementations of software that hinges on new hardware. From what we know about their approach, a small handful of developers get privileged access to test hardware to build out a feature and they're mostly silo'd from collaborative efforts with others in their domain. Only after the hardware becomes public information does the entire institution get their hands on it...and Apple ends up spending the next year's minor update cycle getting the feature up to snuff.

I suspect that this is a more serious rendition of this repetitive failing.
