Fix for iPhone 14 Pro Camera Vibration Issue Coming Next Week

Apple is aware of a bug that is causing the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max cameras to shake and vibrate, and a fix is set to come next week, according to an Apple spokesperson that spoke to MacRumors.

Following the release of the iPhone 14 Pro models, users noticed almost right away that there was a shaking issue with third-party camera apps like Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. The bug causes the camera to vibrate uncontrollably, which results in noticeably shaky video.

The issue appears to be widespread given the number of complaints that we've seen so far. That Apple is able to address it in a software update confirms that it is indeed a software issue and isn't something related to the hardware.

Apple's own Camera app is not affected by the vibration bug, and it is a problem limited to third-party apps. At the current time, there is no workaround and iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max users should avoid using the camera in apps like Instagram and TikTok until Apple is able to address the issue next week.

People who are really serious about hardware should build their own software.

Does anyone else think that Apple's QA process has gone downhill since they went to the "new OS every year" strategy?

I get that they want it to seem new and draw more attraction, but with each release it seems like they are starting from the ground up.

I’ve been saying for years and years that their software is getting really ridiculous. Bugs over bugs, not a single feature that works as expected without a glitch or something.
I also have been saying that until the profit is sky high they won’t care.

I really hope this time around many customers will return their phone causing a dent in the profits and massive delays with shipments etc, so they feel the pain in the only way they care about and MAYBE, get a new bunch of software engineers to replace the current ones.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but when I open the stock camera app I can hear a constant static sound start. The sound is is coming from the camera lenses. When I close the STOCK camera app it stops.

Double edit* I might just be stupid, I believe it’s the microphone for the camera. Both other 13s in the house make the same noise.

Pretty sure the camera voice coil motor wasn't designed to emulate a Taptic Engine. If your iPhone did this, I'd return and replace for sure.

One second of vibration is probably equivalent to something like 1,000 autofocus photos.
Do you have the slightest evidence of what you say??? It sounds like pure speculation and most likely incorrect. Meanwhile everyone is up in arms, going nuts over what may or may not be true.

Let's not even wait a second for the dust clears before we all charge into FedEx to return the phone based upon this speculation.

Rather than grumbling that it might take a week to get a software fix through, have you ever thought that Apple might have the fix ready tomorrow morning, and they're going to send it to Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram to give them a few days to confirm it fixes the issue?
Why make an unsupported assumption like that?

I watched my wife upgrade from an iPhone 8 Plus that she’s had for YEARS to this iPhone 14 Pro. It was a really big deal for her to do that upgrade and watched it fail in so many spots setting it up.
She had to completely erase and restore and try again. She skipped setting up Face ID and it wouldn’t let her proceed past there; The menu options kept going in a loop. She had to reboot.
Then, it failed trying to migrate her data and settings from her nearby 8 Plus and we even had to do a hard reset with the volume up/down/side button sequence. The iPhone 8 reported a transfer complete message and the iPhone 14 Pro was reactionless, stuck on a black screen.

She also asked me why the camera does this weird ghosting thing when she moves it: Just having the camera open, if you move the phone quickly as if to point at something else, there’s this weird stutter/fade effect… doesn’t look intentional.

It’s kind of embarrassing.

It’s for sure the roughest Apple launch I’ve seen and read about in here and it’s a real shame since people are forking over these large amounts of money expecting that seamless Apple experience.

Just noticed that too on my pro.

I wonder if it’s happening on older phones too.

Also noticed taking a video and switching between cameras creates a video with a weird short high pitch sound when in the moment when you switch.

It’s up to the individual purchasers whether or not they want to take the gamble.

No matter if it's software bug or not, since it involves hardware, damage might have been already done if it rattled for sometime, You don't want to carry a damaged $1000 camera and feel bad about it when you actually use it. I am going to place my order for Pro Max after the update is released.

There are already reports of cameras no longer focusing after this. Anybody with common sense should already know what to do.

Given how the replacement time is 5 weeks...
I need to tread carefully...
I don't see any spasms/shakiness and I can't hear any sound from normal distance.

If I get super-close to the lens while using filmic pro, I hear a super-faint electric sound (I literally gotta press my ear to the phone).
I'm getting paranoid, as it's probably the regular sound of the engine focusing.
I also testes the autofocus and all seems well...

So I'm just gonna say it....
A software issue can cause hardware issues. If you don't understand how fragile the OIS systems are within a camera, I don't blame you, most people do not deal with cameras on a daily basis. But please do not spread false info on a forum.

This software issue could easily cause hardware issues with the phones optical image stabilization system which uses tiny mechanical pieces within the camera assembly to compensate for movement. The jarring shaking that is caused by this software issue could EASILY cause hardware issues.

Jury is still out on if people should replace their phones though. Will wait a few days and see.

I think it depends how long and how many times you did it. I did it maybe 3 times for a few seconds to see if it was really the app. But some did it for minutes. That’s a bit difference

I think easier said than done. I think mine is okay on focusing but what if it it’s not as good as it should be.
