This just seems like a big software glitch. Apple told me they are done collecting data from folks impacted but I can’t believe they haven’t fixed it yet. Not sure why it doesn’t impact everyone but seems to be a big problem. Lots of people complaining but it has been silent so wasn’t sure if it resolved for some.

Mine's working fine now, provided that I've got:

a) both a sound and a vibration set for email alerts
b) lock screen alerts are enabled for the mail app
c) the notification setting in the watch app is set to mirror my iPhone

If I change any one of those things then it goes pear-shaped. It did stop showing mail alerts on the watch one day but was working again the next day without me having done anything.

So it just started working for you again out of the blue without having to do anything? It’s been a day and still not showing on notifications center on the watch.

So I’ve been messing around and think I’ve found out the problem...at least for me. I have two email accounts and one where I don’t want to receive notifications. Even though the mirror my phone setting is on showing that it will only get notifications from my one work account, still nothing. I switch to receive notifications for the other account to be on as well and voila, it works. It seems to be that the phone or watch can’t distinguish between the two accounts and that seemed to be the problem.

I had the hunch when my one email account where I don’t get notifications was making the same sound sometimes as my other account. I have them being different sounds so I can distinguish between the two. So I wondered if I tried having them all the same and it worked. Of course, it’s annoying as I now get notifications I don’t really want so hoping this can be fixed as it seems like a software glitch in iOS. Just thought I’d post to see if that helps others and if those who have problems is because they have multiple accounts.

AW4 with Max and same problem for me. Followed advice here but it only works if mirroring is off. Also, I have two mail accounts but notifications on AW only works on one of them with above solution. Really annoying. Hope it gets fixed soon.

[doublepost=1540137458][/doublepost]I have found that custom notifications don’t work for email notifications on 2 accounts. I have been only successful witH setting watch to mirror the phone and setting notifications on phone to have a sound and vibrate but most importantly LOCK SCREEN ALERTS must be CHECKED. Anyone else confirm this?

Yes - I already mentioned this just 5 posts above!

I can confirm all of that with one exception: On my setup mirror must be turned off for notifications to work. Otherwise I get no notifications. I guess this shows that the bug is not specific to one certain setup.

Isn’t it weird how long this has been allowed to go on without a fix? I mean, mail notifications must (together with messages) be one of the most used and wanted features on the AW. Without it, I doubt buying it myself.

So I followed these instructions from an Apple Discussions post and got things working again:

Set Watch Mail Notifications as "Mirror iPhone"
On iPhone set Alerts for each account as "Lock Screen"
On Sounds & Haptics go into "New Mail" and make sure "Vibration" is not set as "None (Default). Pick one.

For the vibration, I just created a custom vibration consisting of a very short single tap and turned that on.

This worked for me ! Thanks

In my case, if mirror is turned OFF, I get the mail notification sound on the iPhone - just as if I wasn't wearing the watch. All other notifications go to the watch as usual.

This worked for me. It really was only changing each mail account on the iphone - Settings\Notifications\Mail\Alerts - I had to turn on "Lock Screen." I also put the apple watch to Setting\Notifications\Mail - I had to set to "Mirror iPhone."

When you guys are saying that worked for me what do you mean? I am getting notifications for new mail, I get a ding on the watch, but no haptic when I have it set to mirror my phone. I DO NOT get the red dot to show up showing I have pending notifications. If I swipe down it says no notifications even though I just received notice of a new email from the mail app.

Alerts from third party mail apps like yahoo work as they should.

I get the ding, the haptic feedback AND I get the red dot where I can swipe down and see all my email notifications.

On phone settings, for each mailbox in Settings\Notifications\Mail:

On phone watch settings: Watch\Settings\Notifications\Mail:

In my case, I was getting the red dot and mails where in notification center (on the watch), but NO haptic feedback. This was resolved by changing the vibration setting in Settings > Sounds > New mail

I got the mail to show up in notifications and also to get alerts. I have multiple accounts and had to change them to all have the same sound on iPhone. What I am not getting now is any haptic on my watch when it is set up to mirror phone.

Getting closer!

Have you checked the vibration setting in Settings > Sounds > New mail ? You have to set something else than "None"

Ok mine is set to "Accent", maybe try this (my phone is in French so I'm not sure of the name. It's the first one of the list)

No difference with accent. If I switch to custom instead of mirror iPhone, I get haptic, but lose the ding!

Haptic works for me if I turn mirror off and manually enable Haptic feedback in Watch app for mail notifications.

I get email notifications just fine. However I don't have my mail working in the app. It says "No mail account. Setup a new account on your iPhone.

any ideas?

So I've tested mail notifications with iOS 12.1 and watch OS 5.1 and there's no change. I'll still only get sound and haptic with mail notifications if:

a) both a sound and a vibration are set for email alerts on the iPhone
b) lock screen alerts are enabled for the mail app on the iPhone
c) the notification setting in the watch app is set to mirror my iPhone

I have the same problem as you with 5.1, BUT, to get notifications at all, I must turn off mirror. All other of your mentiod settings must be followed though. Isn’t it weird? (I have two mail accounts though and maybe that’s why things are different for me). I truly had my fingers crossed that this would be fixed in this release. Truly sad.
