I played the game for about five minutes and didn't really care for it. But kudos for his success, shame he isn't feeling the same way about it. But I saw this tweet that made me empathize with the position he might be in, "Totalbiscuit: Anyone confused why the Flappy Bird dev is taking his game down has not had to experience a tsunami of internet's raw unfiltered bull ****."

i tried this game after hearing this stuff and it was one of the worst games i've ever played. How games like this get popular are beyond me.

Bullsh** straight from the PR playbook.
Oh, and by the way,Jonas Salk told me during a recent seance that he wants his polio vaccine taken off the market.

Worked

Well I jumped on it to see what all the fuss is about. It is hard. I just got a score of 4. I played it for about three minutes just to get that far. I can see how it is addictive though.

It reminds me a bit of a much less elegant "Impossible Road". That game is really hard as well. But the production values of Impossible Road are much higher.

Attention is very difficult for some people to manage. Imagine this guy as Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory, if it helps. He develops games because he enjoys it, not because he wants giant piles of money or fame, and all that attention gets in the way of doing what he loves.

Rather than pulling the game, I think a wiser choice would have been to hire an intermediary to deal with all the BS that goes along with success, and use them to effectively filter the vast majority of his stuff and do some tweeting for him.

A bit strange that he doesn't just let it die down naturally, as this will just serve to increase its popularity.

Most "unknown" apps hit number one, get a few blog site reviews then they are gone. But by removing it now everyone is going to want an interview...

Now I'm thinking Nintendo threatened him but didn't want to make a scene publicly so they told him if he drops it and keeps his mouth shut he can keep the money he made so far. Sounds like a fair deal to me if this is the case. I still can't believe he doesn't want money being that life is probably a little tougher there then in the US etc. something smells fishy.

It looks like he stole the graphics from super mario brothers... Anyone who believes this guy is being completely honest about why he removing a $50,000 a day paycheck is dumb and should be shot... I smell a law suit... AS THE REAL REASON!!!!

how is he making any money? It's a free app.

??!??!?!?!?!?

I'm not really sure what's going on with this guy, but I'm not sure how this is negatively impacting his life. He's got a few popular games.

Turn off your Twitter account and change your e-mail. The groupies and paparazzi aren't hounding him are they?

I'm sure the press are trying to reach him for a quote, but again, he's an interesting story not anything too amazing (they're not camped out are they?).

If the new version popped up on the store already (the one with no social media options) then it's likely (but not certain) he submitted this before he had 3 hits in the iTunes store?

Again, I have no idea what I'm talking about, maybe he's gotten death threats or something(??) but the announcement of 'in 22 hours I remove the game' is just generating more press and attention for himself.

Finally someone using their brain.

Not everybody wants what people call "success" nowadays. Money doesn't bring happiness.

I just downloaded this game now to see what the hype is all about. Man, this game is terrible!

Still, it sort of inspires me to take my zero programming skills and throw something together in a few days to see if I can pay off my mortgage in a week or two, if the $50k / day earnings from this game are accurate.

My father was a well known musician in his local town, so much so that everyone started to use his name as a conversation piece. And that’s all he became in true success, a form of poor social bond to which he was used for rumours, lies and gossip.

I honour this man’s decision to do what my dad did.
Pack up and leave.
