This guy is my idol. Talk about not giving a damn about money. Reminds me of Dave Chappelle. It's easy to talk about how money isn't important, but doing this kind of thing shows true conviction. Awesome Guy.

David Chappele was never funny.

It's actually the plural of tonne, a metric measurement that you may not be familiar with if you're from the USA

Is that the British spelling of ton (plural) or something?

Oh right, I'm wrong here.

1 ton (US) = approx. 2000 lbs.
1 metric ton (US)/tonne = 1000 kilograms = ~2200 lbs.

However, afaik tonnes is actually sort of incorrect in the context "tonnes of money" which while they could mean "thousands of kgs of money", the word "tons" is probably closer to the intended meaning.

If he really didn't care about money there wouldn't be ads in his game

Dong Nguyen, the developer of Flappy Bird, the viral hit that remains at the top of the App Store rankings, has promised on Twitter to remove the app from the App Store because the sheer amount of attention the app has drawn is something he isn't interested in dealing with.
The man is a genius!

Download it while you can!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Yep but keep this in mind:

In American English, a ton is a unit of measurement equaling 2,000 pounds. In non-U.S. measurements, a ton equals 2,240 pounds. A tonne, also known as a metric ton, is a unit of mass equaling 1,000 kilograms.

So not only is it spelt differently, but it also means something else. Fortunately, in our context, it makes no difference though :D

Will he be able to continue collecting iAd revenue if the app is no longer available for sale?

If so, he gets the best of both worlds: the ability to continue making money as long as the popularity lasts, while not having to deal with support or updates.

$50,000 per day?

Is there a source for that $50,000 per day figure, or was that just something someone threw out there as a guess/example?

if it's true, its a legal issue. plus he says he will not sell the game. Mario probably came knocking at his door.

Damn. That's twice what I make in a year. I'd just shut down my social media stuff, go into hiding, and rake in a little over $100 million a year. Set for life, see the world, that kind of thing.

Right, but you don't know what demons he's facing. We all look at through our own perspective, but no one really knows what he's going through.

this game is a rip off of "Helicopter" the game that was on the computer browsers a long time ago...

He's probobly made enough money to live off because of flappy birds now and that he just wants to go away. He's probobly getting
- thousands of but reportd everydsyd for bugs that don't exist
-people trying to buy the licence off him
- people wanting to make merchandise
- loads of job offers
And at the end of the day he made it for a bit of fun and he just can't be bothered for this attention now as he's made his money!

And, as we all know...money is the only thing that is important in life.

Peace, privacy, and feeling that one has some control over one's life is meaningless.

Money is all...

Taking control over your life can be done in several ways.

I get that money is not that important to everyone, but he is a game developer who develops games for money. His goal always had been to make money. Now suddenly it is 'too much'?

I don't get it.

Turn off your phone and automatically delete every incoming e-mail. Problem solved.

A family member, or maybe a money-hungry girlfriend, needs to slap some sense into him.

Hard to believe that someone might actually value something other than money.

Yup...needs to get some sense slapped into him for having other things he values in his life.

Truly sad not to be able to even understand the idea, agree with it or not.

iirc you should be able to redownload it, but only if you did before and it wasn't pulled from the store for other reasons.

you can go ahead and risk it

but he just released an update today, doesnt even make any sense ... is he trying to pull a "justin bieber"?

lol, but remember updates for non high profile devs takes days/weeks to get approved.

I feel what he's saying. Media......it can drive most people crazy except those that are in love with fame/attention. Once you go famous its hard to live a quiet life

and like the saying "Money cannot buy you happiness" <--this is the perfect example.

Also $50K/day is a prediction by the media, who knows what his actual operating cost and earnings are....they could be half that, not to mention fame came now, who knows what/how much he's in/was in debt.

Many people seem to think that this is a PR stunt, but why would the developer need to do that? Isn't this game still the most popular game on iOS?
