Smart idiot. He's making a big fuss about it so everybody talks about his app and then download it so he makes more money with the ads. And to me, this is a really annoying game.

And? There are plenty of games that blatantly rip off of Nintendo. They're not likely to sue, they have bigger concerns. Also, they'd have to prove that people would have bought their games if only Flappy Bird wasn't there.

And Apple also changed Derpy's voice because they were afraid it would offend people. I hardly think them removing the game was because Nintendo was afraid their Mario sales were going to slip.

Actually Hasbro changed Derpy's voice, because as many people pointed out, it was offensive to those with mental disabilities. Then the bronies attacked an up-and-coming animator, because she lead the charge to have Derpy's voice changed. The iTunes copy was just the first place to change the episode (The Hub's site changed it later that day).

Hard to believe that someone might actually value something other than money.

Yup...needs to get some sense slapped into him for having other things he values in his life.

Truly sad not to be able to even understand the idea, agree with it or not.

It's because I understand this idea that I think Dong Nguyen is making a stupid decision. With all the things in life that matter more than money, he should be content with his financial burdens vanishing. He can spend time doing almost anything he wants with the people he loves and never waste another second thinking about money.

Not to mention, if he's upset with his riches, I'm sure any charity wouldn't be.

:)

'Flappy Bird' Creator Promises to Remove Game From App Store Tomorrow

That's a shame, I was starting to get the hang of it!

It's probably the best for humanity anyway.

Legal Issues?

I know he said it's not legal issues, but those green pipes look strikingly familiar... as in I envision some plumber guy jumping out of on...

you can go ahead and risk it

Not sure what you mean by that, as I have several apps that were pulled from the store and I have no problem redownloading them from iTunes under purchases.

I only know of a couple cases where you couldn't and that had more to do with malicious software or some kind of exploit.

Still, it sort of inspires me to take my zero programming skills and throw something together in a few days to see if I can pay off my mortgage in a week or two, if the $50k / day earnings from this game are accurate.

You could save time and effort by buying a lottery ticket...pretty much the same odds.

That's not a bad idea. I won $7 on a lottery ticket last week. I cashed that in for a $4, $2 and $1 Cash for Life ticket (Best game ever!)

I won another $4! I'm clearly on my way to winning the $1000 a week for life!

This guy will probably lay low for a while (I give it 6 months) then release a very similar game under an alias then charge $0.99. He's just mad because he didn't charge for it in the first place.

Worked on me, I downloaded. Couldn't get past 2 for like 30 mins then got to level 19. Must..... Keep....... Trying........

If he didn't want his app to be popular or make him money and get attention - maybe he should have created a fart app?

There's nothing wrong with not wanting to be famous.

I'm with you.

People are so brainwashed into thinking that fame is the ultimate and most superior state in life, it's rather sad actually; by that I mean that people who aspire to fame (and of course nearly 100% never achieve it) and/or simply value fame never realise how the simple act of valuing fame devalues their own (not famous) existence. Oh the horrors of being merely ordinary.

i tried this game after hearing this stuff and it was one of the worst games i've ever played. How games like this get popular are beyond me.

A simple, straight-forward concept. It's more like the Acrade games of past. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, they were all simple concepts executed very well.

I think the "tapping" aspect has a lot to do with it and our brains. It keeps us in the moment, much like pulling the lever of a slot machine effects addicts I suppose.

Lol, I know that sounds stupid, but I'm serious. I think there's something to games like this & Candy Crush and similar others that actually make it take off in the App Store whereas other (arguably better) games fail to catch on. It's psychological, IMO.

Very understandable. Not everyone likes this kind of explosive success, I can imagine doing the same. Although it's not a very American attitude, as you can smell in the comments ("Dude there's like money lying on the street man. Money money, I love money."). I find this kind of fixation on money strange, to be honest.

It's not about the money, it's about what the money gets you. It's security, it's freedom. Freedom from fear, freedom to do whatever you want with your life without financial constraints.

I'm not saying everybody needs to be a billionaire to be happy. But, everybody has a certain amount of money they need to make barriers fall away from their life. It's quite possible this guy feels he's made that much, now, and feels uncomfortable having more than that. That's awfully shortsighted though. He could give money away to charity, save some for his family, etc.

good i hate this game
and hes dumb if he does that...hes smart he's just saying it so more people download it
