59k a day? I highly doubt he got 5000$ for the entire month.

I'm a SEO so I know.
50k a day x 30 days = 1,5 million which is completely absurd.

Well, assuming CPM of 1$/thousands ad views, you would need 50 million ad views per day to get $50k. That is entirely realistic given that there are millions of people playing the game daily - and the game shows a new ad every few seconds.

P.S. He got at least 10 ad views from me alone - and I just tried this POS for a minute or so.

Are you taking into account that many people play ad-supported games in airplane mode so they aren't bothered by the ads?

Are there really that many? Even if you cut it in 4, it still very respectable 12k per day. I am not suggesting that he makes 50k every day - that is most likely the highest number; on day to day basis something like 10k-20k is still quite reasonable.

"In a tweet last week he said 'Please give me peace.', and yesterday, he announced that the game would be removed from the App Store today."

Dong Nguyen needs some psychological help. For the money he was making a day, he should have been able to deal with a little bit of attention. It's not like he was Brad Pitt and couldn't go out in public without the papparazi going crazy...

Well said. I agree 100% with you. :)

Maybe someone can help me to understand this a tad batter. If the dev is from Vietnam and Vietnam is still Communist, what do the $50,000.00 a day mean for his profits? Remember the dev for Tetris? He didn't see a penny. The state took it all. I am just curious as to what the true economic reality of the situation actually is. How much if any would this dev see. Does it work the same as communist Russia did? This is an honest question. I really don't know. If so he doesn't have the financial incentive you would stateside.

It's kind of amusing how hard it is for Americans to understand that not everyone views fame/success/money the same way they do.

What??? How dare you!! We only care about the mighty $$$$$ here!!!!

It was a joke.... It's very easy for people to talk about other people when this didn't happen to them. Not everyone wants to be rich or famous and get mob by people pretending to like you.

The cynic in me wants to know: How much was this guy offered to take them down?

I actually thought it was kind of cool that a app without IAP was on top of the charts. There are some pretty rich and powerful forces in the App Stores now thanks to Apple's IAP model, so maybe they felt threatened and decided to pay him to take it down.

The developer didn't deny this, only that it wasn't due to legal issues. But in that case I see no reason why he'd have to hide the fact.

I'm inclined to just believe him.

Fixed that for you.

I live in America and earn less than minimum wage (this is by choice) - despite holding graduate degrees. Not everyone places a high level of importance on material wealth.

look past the popularity and it truly is a horrible game haha.

reminds me of an iOS game from 2008.

Apple Apple takes its cut, he has to pay taxes. And then you have to figure in the cost of buying all those 5-hour Energy drinks, a necessary supplement for many night-owl devs. :D

No, Apple's making nothing (except $99/year developer account)

The app is free and the ads are NOT iAds... they wouldn't make $50,000/day (or per year for that matter)

The ads he's showing pay him just for appearances, not clicks. Nobody clicks (or really even sees) those ads when they play the game.

The real loser is the companies paying for ads on such a system/app.

To the developer: you poor baby making 50k a day, on behalf of joe Average id like to say, Harden the **** up!

He IS from Vietnam which is still a communist country. I'm not sure how it works there, but I do remember about the developer of Tetris didn't see a dime because he was living in Russia under communist rule. I'm not sure if it works the same in Vietnam. Not sure him hardening the **** up would help much in this case.

50K a day.

50K a day. Up for a month. A quick assumption thats what he made everyday that calculates to $1,500,000. Clearly this is not a legal issue it is clearly a retirement issue. #SetForLife

The best clone so far. Physics-wise. Missing sound and scores recording.

Try it. It is a browser game and works with iOS devices. On my MacBook Pro Retina I can start the game with a slight tap on the trackpad but then I must "click through" or use the space bar. (Sorry I've thrown away my last mouse in 2007.)

does he still make money from the people that already have the app? because there are till ads when you play it....

I haven't got any ads in Flappy Bird. Get Weblock - AdBlock for iOS. It's still free (until Friday). No more ads in apps, games, webpages and in videos (YouTube):

iOS App Store link:

It can block mobile ads (banners and popups on websites and in other apps), statistics, user tracking, script or images. It also allows you to block specific websites, like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, social widgets from websites. You can even define your own content filters. Using Weblock you can block basically any network resource!
