shouldn't effect your insurance at all, since it none of them have ever been reported to insurance companies due to paying them off, traffic school and getting out of them.

Quite the contrary, this TYPE of driving causes insurance premiums to be so high.
Your story is just an example of why I have to pay so much, despite being an excellent driver.

Glad I wasn't alone in that..

no one even gets stopped for speeding on the highways around here, you're pretty much free to do whatever you want. You can drive 90km/h or 150km/h, no one cares. I haven't seen a police car on the freeway in years

I have heard about this, but I have never had anyone flash their headlights at me, and I have never flashed my headlights at anyone (but if I knew there was a cop, I certainly would). However, I did get a speeding ticket for going 43 in a 30 once. I took the class and now I watch my speed.

Thats nothing.... I got a ticket for doing 67 in a 65.... though, I did pass the cop (he was driving in front of me, and I went around him)

Guess that was a bad idea.

when ever we are in europe I've noticed people do that, which is good too because my dad likes to send on those curvy french country side roads lol :D and trust me there are alot of police cars hidden in side roads, so its easy to get caught.

That kind of sad. It one of those tickets I would contest and try to get thown out because come on 2 mph over the limit that just kind of a stupid one to write a ticket for.

Sounds like a power hungery cop to me but that just me.

yeah, it was pretty lame I have to say. And yes, power hungry is right, that cop was like "You have no respect for the law driving like that," and "why would you even think to pass me? do you know who i am?"

I was pretty pissed that night.

I would have contested it, but I was out of state, and going back for court would have been even worse than just dealing with it cause it was my 1st.

It would be nice to have some solid figures on State Revenue, specifically on revenue from traffic tickets. It would also be interesting to know if and how quotas and incentives are set up on a monthly basis. Traffic tickets are a big business. Getting hammered for driving 67 in a 65 mph zone is suspect. That's why most of us flash whenever it's convenient. Speed traps in various parts of your state? From personal experience, I think Arkansas is one of the worst.

Hmm, I don't do that. Perhaps I should.

I apparentley do provide another service to speeding motorists though. Since I have a radar detector (and you can see it when you're behind me) others find the need to tail me, knowing if I slow down, there's a cop. Asshats™

Out here in the boonies, I'll flash my lights to warn other drivers of "something" ahead which is usually deer or a wreck.

For radar traps, it kinda depends on their license plate

A few people have renamed the Dulles Toll Road,
The Troll Road, because the state troopers love to hide under the bridges.

Hmm, Ive never thought to follow someone with a radar detector. Thats a good idea really.

Errr....no its not. Because if I'm speeding and my detector goes off, I'll slam on my brakes to slow down to the speed limit before the cop sees me. If someone's on my ass since I have a detector but their brakes suck or they're not paying attention, then I've got someone else's car in my backseat. I've gone up to 100mph+ speeds before just to get away from someone who was too cheap to buy their own detector (I slow down to a more reasonable speed once I get some distance though)

I would not relay on the radar dector 2 much because if the cops are using one of those nize Lidar system (laser basicly) all you dector will do is tell you that you are nailed because by the time it goes off you been clocked and before you tell me my dector detect that go look up the test on it. Even the best dectors where not picking up the laser system unless it was lock on to the car with the dector in it.

The only other treat is the instant on radar dector because the radar is off until they target your car. Yeah you dector will pick it up but you been clock as well.

I do not think a radar dector is a licsence to speed. It is a good warning tool but not an excuse to speed. And yes my nice little radar dector has saved me a several times by going off telling me to double check my speed. Nice bonus I have is people out side my car can not tell I have a radar dector unless they see it though my frount wind shield and maybe the sides if they are lucky and the light is right. As for the rear not a chance since that one is limo tent (5%) and it just looks black.

I would say just get your window tinted. It remove that problem for me quite nicely. Just go to the legel limit and get it done by a pro and it look fine. You car will not be ricy and not attact unwanted attention but it also depends on your state. In Texas a lot of cars have tinted windows will all types of drivers so it look normal to have it done. It really does cool off the car during the hot sunny days. It is a hugely noticble differnce when you get in your car. Plus you dont have to run the AC on full blast just to keep the car at a confitble temp while driving.

Now if you get pulled over and you have a dector you are pretty much SOL.

I agree.

And in addition, in CA, radar detectors are illegal. And window tinting is NOT allowed on the windshield, driver's window, or front passenger window.

So no luck for CA speeders. :D

wait...cars down under can speed?

Nah, usually the weight of the northern hemisphere on top of you stops the pistons from moving fast enough. And thats only if you can keep from falling off the earth.

umm you sure about that because unless it is new Radar dectors are legel everywhere but Washiton DC and Virgin.

Other wise 49 out of the 50 states it legal to have them.

Oooh, you're right! It's jammers that are illegal (but really, what good is a detector compared to a jammer?) :p

California Highway Patrol (evil CHP) link here.

Man, that took forever to find... mainly because I'm stupid.

Jammers are illigel in all 50 states. It is agaist FCC restration to run those. But yeah yolu have a point

Radar Jammers are legal in Indiana and Kentucky though, which is two of the 3 states I go in. I guess I would have to shut it off when I go to Illinois, cause they arent legal there.

If I had one of these, I wouldnt speed really anymore than the couple of MPH that I do now though, I wouldnt consider it a license to go really fast. But I would just feel a little better the entire trip, cause now I tend to get stressed thinking about it to much.

Here in Pennsylvania about 5(?) years ago, the state troopers tried to say it was illegal to give any signal to oncoming traffic that a cop was up ahead and they would start ticking signalers.

In some states, though (IE: Georgia), you can't use your high beams within 500 feet of oncoming traffic or 350 feet from behind another car. Last I checked, it was in the Driver's book, so you can get a ticket in some instances.

Personally, I'm not a flasher.

I try to do it as well and I really appreciate when someone does it for me. One morning we had really bad fog around here and I drove by an accident that had just happened. I flashed oncoming traffic like a madman to tell them to slow down and I'm positive that if I didn't do that, things would have gotten very ugly very quick.

Yup. My dad noticed this right off the bat when we moved out here. His truck had slightly tinted windows when he got it but not too long after we moved, he got a ticket.
