um so i did it. But now my home network won't work. It works on my iphone and ipad but i can't get it to work on my mbp even though it shows connected. I can't even change the proxies or anything when i go advanced anymore, its all locked out. HELP.

WAIT. iChat and everything works when i go back to my home network, but now none of my web browsers can connect to the internet? anyone have any insight?

Confirmed works on iPhone4 and Macbook Pro running latest software versions. He left out the step where you need to set a matching subnet mask on the laptop and a different ip address, but it works!

For $1 it was well worth this 'hack' of a tethering. Even if AT&T/Apple pull this, the guy deserves the money for being clever!

Would it be possible for Apple, in a future update, to disable how this app works in enabling tethering? Not a kill switch, but just a way to block how it works.

so it's purple, now what do i do on my windows 7 machine? do i somehow connect them wifi? bluetooth? usb?

It's nice to have for those times you're traveling/don't want to pay airport wifi fees, hotel wifi fees, etc.

Exactly. Huge deal for people who travel. These fees have added up to outrageous amount for me at times I've traveled a lot. This is exactly what I needed. Also posting from the tether now!

Seems to be pulled. If the developer releases an update to the app to remove this Easter egg because of Apple's request, and you update, you'll lose this ability to tether this way.

They would have to block SOCKS completely I would guess.

Which is what happened with Elgato allowing users to stream TV over 3G.

Which was great :D

Just realize if you buy it is likely a .99 cent donation to Apple. Not likely they will ever pay him out for this app. I am sure it is a violation.

Is this considered legally acceptable behaviour in the US? I know Paypal seems to regularly get away with locking money and accruing interest by accusing random people of "suspicious" activity, and I'm surprised such conflicts of interests aren't regulated. Haven't I made a payment on the understanding that my money is shared between developer and Apple? (Of course Apple have the ability to withold money as payment processor, but I'm hoping that itself is irrelevant.)

this app is truly magical to say the least
I am currently using my iPhone 3GS' internet connection and it is fast; as in useable.
It loads up MacRumors in a flash!

How did you guys get the OS X location switching to work? If I keep my Automatic setup and add an "iPhone Tether" location, switching back and forth between them does nothing. When on Automatic going to iPhone Tether doesn't create/join the ad-hoc network, and going from iPhone Tether to Automatic doesn't re-join my wireless network.

Arg!

I haven't figured out a quick way to switch back and forth from one network to another without a ton of steps. Have to play with it I guess.

Hmmm...same thing happened to me. I renewed DHCP lease in NP and everything is back to normal.

Getting this to work with Windows 7

UPDATE:

I can't get it to work either... Here's what I've tried so far...

1) Manually set IP on wireless card to 13.37.13.38 and gateway to 13.37.13.37.
2) I've set the proxy settings in IE and Firefox to the required settings
3) Set the ad hoc name to "Tether Demo" exactly as in the video
4) Disabled the Windows firewall

What I AM able to do so far:

I'm able to ping the iphone at the 13.37.13.37 IP from the CMD prompt
