What am I missing here? People keep saying that in the case of a refund consumers get a full refund and Apple keeps their 30%. But, this just doesn't seem to make sense. I pay $1.00 in the app store. Ordinarily the developer would get $0.70 and Apple would get $0.30. Now, let's suppose that Apple issues a refund of my $1.00 App Store purchase. I get my $1.00 back. But, now wait a second. How is Apple going to keep their $0.30 if they've just given the full $1.00 back to me?

They take the extra 30% from the developer.

I don't think Apple honestly gives a **** if people abuse AT&T's network.

Bingo.

Steve's had such "fun" dealing with AT&T that he probably privately laughs about this.

The $20 to "activate the tethering on our phone" from AT&T is such horse s***. There should be absolutely no extra anything being charged for tethering since our data is capped.

Go over your data, be it with your phone or tethering to a laptop, and you pay more.

These extra BS fees are why everyone hates AT&T.

ah

I created the network on the computer, accessed it on my phone, changed the IP/Subnet Mask... both devices connect but I cannot access the internet because the network is unidentified.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? I've followed all of the steps, since I'm able to establish connection between the devices, Vista is not recognizing access to the internet.

Caliber26, I think I realized the problem you are having with tethering, in your last sentence of your quote you mention the word "Vista", if you haven't read the name of this website it's called "MacRumors.com" for a reason. >.<

try getting an actual OS and then maybe tethering will work.

And then there's people like you. If you had no solution to provide, why even bother replying to my post? You must be what others on here like to refer to as TROLLS. Says a lot about ya, buddy! A LOT.

And I'm quite aware of what site I am on. I managed to get this to work on MBP, but I also have a Vista-loaded laptop I use at work and was trying to get it to work on it as well.

Let's all join hands and say a prayer for the Windows people. Oh yea and pray really hard for the Vista ones.

it does work on windows 7 a least not sure about vista

i'm posting this while tethering using google chrome

1) In Windows 7, go to Control Panel and open Network and Sharing Center
2) Select "Manage wireless networks"
3) Click "Add" and select "Create an ad hoc network"
4) Enter in a Network name (make up one), choose your "Security type" (No authentication (Open) if you don't want to bother with a password, or WEP if you want to specify a password)
5) Connect the iPhone to the Ad Hoc network you created, assign it a static IP of 13.37.13.37 and Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
6) In Windows 7, go back to "Network and Sharing Center" and click on the active Ad Hoc connection to bring up the Wireless Network Connection Status window
7) Click on "Properties", highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and then click "Properties"
8) Select the "Alternate Configuration" tab and enter in an IP address of 13.37.13.38, Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0 and click OK. The address 13.37.13.37 should now be pingable from a command prompt.
9) Open Firefox and goto "Tools" and then "Options"
10) Select "Advanced" then "Network" and click on "Settings"
11) Select "Manual proxy configuration" and enter in, SOCKS Host: 13.37.13.37, SOCKS Port: 1337, select SOCKS v4 and click OK
12) In Firefox, type "about:config" in the address bar and click past the warning prompt
13) IMPORTANT STEP!!! Scroll down to "network.proxy.socks_remote_dns" and change this value to TRUE
14) Close Firefox
15) Open HandyLight on your iPhone and do the BRY top right corner sequence
16) Open Firefox again and you should now be able to browse

As usual...Windows is here to make things so simple and easy.

That's what I keep wondering.

I suspect that Apple won't just because they've never kill switched NetShare or whatever the name of that app was.

I think Apple is saving the kill switch for a trojan horse or viral app or something, I don't think Apple honestly gives a **** if people abuse AT&T's network.

I agree, I remember when Steve Job himself at the beginning of Apple worked on a small blue box to make free calls from a paid phone using AT&T (old telecom Empire) network and them sell them to college students

Steve Wozniak - testing the box LOL

Thanks a lot! I actually had already seen this list on prior posts and another site. I've actually managed to get this to work on my boss's pc, that's running on W7. However, the one I'm using is Vista so I'm not really sure what I missed. It's also anchored to IE7 (we have not received clearance to upgrade to IE8 as it is not compatible with most of the systems we access), so maybe that's the problem. Either way... no biggie.

Again, thanks for the positive feedback. Refreshing to see that attitude, in a sea of a bitter 16-year old nerds with nothing better to do.

DoD? One figures you would be issued an aircard and a SecurID If mobility were of importance :)

Not at every command!! A tech rep, where travel is required you would think you would be supplied that, but at this command, we don't even get a laptop gotta use my own and have to use IE to access my NMCI web mail.

you gota love a full edge signal on 02

however it shows it so slow, it is ok while browsing and i got a 1:30 youtube video to fully buffer on 240p in about 2 mins

LoL. I'd feel bad for ya, but from the looks of it, you're most likely a $h*t-eater so the taste of your own vomit shouldn't bother you too much.

I use Vista on my company-issued laptop and I have TWO Macs @ home, by the way!

that's rather creative lol

Hahahaha! I was just thinking 'damn that looks so easy, anyone can follow that!' ;)

Seriously though, I'm so pissed I missed this.

here is a simple one, i used this one, i might look complicated the first time but once youve got it working its easy, i stayed up till 4:30am getting it to work

1) Follow instructions in Appshopper website
2) Manually set the IP for your laptop's adapter to something in the 13.37.13.xx range (xx = any number 0-255 except 37) and set subnet mask to 255.0.0.0
3) ****DOWNLOAD SAFARI FOR WINDOWS****
4) Change the settings under preferences>advanced>Proxies (click change settings) then click on the LAN settings button. Uncheck automatically detect settings, check Use a proxy... and click advanced. Uncheck use same proxy server for all protocols and erase all the numbers on HTTP, secure & ftp. Enter 13.37.13.37 and port 1337 in the Socks line. Click ok
5) Browse the internet!

I'm in the US but my speeds are with yours. I NEED 3G!!!!!

this app came at just the right time, i'm going on holiday to a remote part of england (lynton & lynmouth) and there is no one wifi to steal and the only place you can get a 2 bar edge is in the upstairs window, you get no signal downstairs, so im going to tape my iphone 4 to the window and surf the web downstairs very slowly

if i bought this app last night, is there any way they can take it away, like through an update or syncing? or is it my property forever?

"i've saved my heard-earned money for a multi-colored flashlight app and now i finally have it."

I missed out on Netshare by minutes.

So glad I scored this one. Very nice to have this ability.

F AT&T's ridiculous tethering fee.

just sync with your computer then find the .ipa file and back it up somewhere, i backed mine up 10 times

Woot, got it just in time. Hope they don't killswitch it.

Note that if you already are on a home WiFi like I am, you don't need to set up an ad-hoc. Just change your IE/Firefox settings to use the SOCKS proxy with the IP of the phone (whatever your router assigned it) and port 1337 and it works. I only plan on using it if my cable internet is out, since I don't have a laptop.

You can also use the proxy by connecting the iphone to a regular wifi access point. Nothing magical about the ad-hoc network or that strange ip address... Just set the socks proxy in the browser config to the current wifi ip address of the iphone on port 1337. You may have to set the iphone ip to be static, with a blank default gateway/router ip so that the proxied traffic will go out the 3g connection rather than any existing internet link available on the access point however. :)

thanks to both of you. setting it to static was the key

I am having trouble connecting to my iPhone 4. Yesterday I was having trouble so I switched ip ad to 13.37.13.38 and then tethering worked perfectly. Today it's not connecting at all no matter what I do. Any help
