I lost my netshare because i didn't sync the app to iTunes fast enough (had an unfortunate restore issue when i upgraded the firmware).

Glad to finally have a working one of these in iPhone 4 now :)

Get it while its hot!

I'm not sure I understand this. Do I need to Noe that I've downloaded the app plug in my iPhone to my Mac and sync to keep the app?

Looking forward to trying it out when I get home tonight!

Ok, I just bought it.
It is a nice color change app.
After I configure it on MacBook will I be able to use my iPhone to tether my iPad away from the pc?

Then why does this flashlight app need to sneak it in?

It doesn't. It only needs to do that in order to get tethering for free or on an unlimited plan.

It won't once the jailbreak is released. Just like how you need to root your device to do things Google (or HTC, who whatever thick accented lowest bidder supports your device) doesn't want to support.

You are in violation of your ToS just like us. You're not somehow allowed to tether just because Google put tethering in your otherwise piss poor OS.

it works, be sure to change the proxy settings back so your regular internet will work. what i did is made a home location in network settings (no proxy settings) and a tether location in network settings (set up for the app, for when im on the go)

So we have a guy who broke the rules and hid something from Apple.

And you're all rushing into it on the assumption that he didn't ALSO hide something from you too?

Heh...I hope that works out for you all! You may want to avoid using any passwords or credit cards while tethering with this app. Just a thought.

I mean, obviously you can't trust that Apple's approval process is gonna protect you in this case.

What makes you think that this case is unique? How would Apple ever be able to guarantee that application does not do anything but what it claims it does?

Man, it's such a shame. My Android phone has this built-in to the OS. Android!
just curious - are you paying for the option to tether with at&t? $25/mo datapro + $25 tethering option?

also - Android didn't have tethering built in till 2.2. iPhone OS 3.0 had tethering built in last year. other countries were tethering for over a year but no plan with at&t existed till recently.

Does the data used via this get added to your data count, or your tethering counter?

I believe the iPhone 4 and iOS 4 now has a seperate counter for each, and I want to ensure there is 100% no way the network knows, providing you don't use it excessively.

Assuming I don't do excessive stuff - just light web browsing, is there any way that my carrier (Orange) can tell I'm tethering?

Yes, if they did deep packet inspection on TCP packets that aren't encrypted. For example, when tethering through the proxy, your UserAgent doesn't get changed, so websites can correctly determine you are on a full computer and not serve the iPhone version of the site. Well, Orange could inspect the packet and see the user agent too. It wouldn't PROVE you were tethering, but that's the most obvious example I could think of in 10 seconds of thinking about it.

The real question is, does Orange care enough to inspect if you aren't excessive.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_4; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16)

I got it to work on a Macbook. How do you get a iPod touch to use a SOCKS proxy?

Man, it's such a shame. My Android phone has this built-in to the OS. Android!

It's been part of iOS since version 3. Works great in Canada. The issue is not Apple or the iPhone. Using it this way is going to chew through the battery much like PDANet allows you to with a jailbroken phone (both antennas in use, etc.)

definitely works. I can't believe I'm posting this on my macbook while tethered to my iPhone 4 without jailbreaking. Total. Freaking. Win.

Works REALLY WELL at that....

If they pull it, do I get my money back?

Also - WIFI tethering isn't even an Apple feature for the official tethering. Why can't Apple use wifi for their tethering system.

Because bluetooth is reasonably fast (~2-3 Mbps) and more energy efficient than wifi?

The internet works with this, but I can't get Adium to connect. Hm, I guess I'll play around with settings a bit more. Any luck from anyone else?

Any chance someone could write out the instructions for the MacBook setup? I can't make it out in the video on my phone.
