So police stop me, ask me for my license then I show my iPhone then what… they can have access to all my info in my phone?

Come on NY! You have us downloading multiple apps for our vaccine cards, importing our cards again in the Wallet app, but can’t even manage to input a driver’s license???

At this point, I don’t think it’s coming any time this or next year…
Agreed! the 2 app approach to the covid vaccine proof is ridiculous. Florida is going to beat NYS with digital license is embarrassing !!

BAD IDEA FOLKS!!!

Never give your phone (locked or unlocked) over to a law enforcement agent. EVER. Do not unlock it. They need a warrant (and probable cause) to search your phone, but will suggest otherwise. Their job is to uphold the law (find people guilty), not prove people innocent. The electronic driver’s license is how law enforcement will trick people into handing over their phone. If you happen to unlock the phone before handing it over (intentionally or accidental face-unlock), you have just given your blessing to have the phone searched. This is the same reason for shutting & locking your car if you are asked to exit your vehicle.

Best practices for everyone: if you are stopped by an officer, make sure your phone is put into a semi-locked state (power+volume up, then hit cancel) so a passcode is required. If you aren’t planning on videoing or recording audio, power it off. All notifications should be obscured unless the phone is unlocked (somehow your buddies will send you inappropriate texts at an inopportune time). Be polite. Don’t argue. Don’t over share and create unwanted evidence. Remember that you can always fight it out in court - that’s why there are defense lawyers and a judge to hear both sides of the case.

In NC we carry around a stone tablet with our driver's license chiseled in to it. Can't see a digital license option coming any time soon.

Yes.

Then the gov will require a copy of Face ID and “secure” chip data from your device for any verifications of the ID in Wallet. This data will be stored on super secure gov databases and never ever never instantly misused for everything from corruption to blackmail to harassment to criminally idiotic centralized micro management.

And for your protection, the virtualIDs will never work in the opposite direction, announcing and confirming the identity of any approaching gov functionary.

It’s time for Apple users to stop ascribing benevolence to the nice sounding things Tim Cook says.

Nice. I'd like to see announcements from these states saying they will be accepted by Police if stopped while driving and in stores for the purchase of age related items. As soon as I can get my Rivian I'll be able to leave my wallet and keys behind.

Good job Florida! At this rate, I really will never have to have my wallet on me. Now I just wish Florida had implemented the digital vaccine cards. Can't have it all I guess.

It says they take a picture to confirm your identity - something they also do when you renew a license at the DMV. I hardly think this is something out of the ordinary.

I go off the assumption the government can track me already by simply locating my cellphone location off of cell towers and the only way to avoid that is to avoid carrying a phone which isn't something I'm prepared to do. This digital ID is really just convenience and I don't see how it invades my privacy beyond how things stand currently. I say this as someone who very much values their privacy and has no social media.

Why do you need a vaccine card?

I'm asking honestly. I'm not vaccinated and live my life exactly as I did before the pandemic hit, the idea of presenting vaccine ID for something sounds utterly totalitarian and like China's social credit score in through the back door.

I get the humor but how often do we leave the house now with a low battery, or let out battery get low when we’re out. That’s like leaving without pants on - you’re just asking for trouble.
I work in a restaurant where you have to order via QR code and you will not believe how many people moan and groan about how their phone is dead so they can't order...and this is when we just open at 12pm!

Way to go Florida! This should help speed up the trip through airports.
Yes but you still will be slowed down showing your paper CDC Covid 19 vaccine record from Florida to the airline rep that has to verify against your digital driver’s license. This is because Florida Governor Desantis refuses to allow you to be issues a authenticated digital copy of the CDC record.

In the meantime, Florida will be offering a Smart ID app that residents can use to provide proof of identity or age. It will not replace a physical driver's license, which will still need to be carried when operating a vehicle, according to the state.

Why?
