To echo others, folding phones are stupid. Apple should cancel it altogether. But of course Tim Cook can’t make a final decision to save his life so we’re stuck in “maybe all our resources go towards it… or none of our resources go towards it! Cook for the win!”

Logicboard swap is easy on those.
Oh, I know. I'm just procrastinating. I've got enough other laptops that it's not urgent, and it's my stuff so nobody is paying me to do it quickly.

And getting the Macintosh Portable running again is actually more interesting right now. I've wanted one of those since '89, finally got one the other day. But of course it's got a dead battery (and probably needs to be recapped).

Considering that Tim Cook has no taste in design and is perfectly fine with copying stupid industry design trends (like how Apple copied flat design from Microsoft), it wouldn't surprise me if Apple someday released a foldable iPhone.

They want the same phone every year, with a slightly better camera. Apple users are just as complacent as Apple themselves. “Innovation” is a thing of the past.
I don't need something radically new every year. I'm already satisfied with the way things are so if they could just fix the bugs and provide slight hardware upgrades (ie faster phone and longer battery) for when i change my phone, that's all I need

Considering Apple would very likely charge $1500-2000 for a foldable iPhone I'm personally not all that upset about the idea of it being terminated indefinitely.

And that’s exactly what Apple will give you every year. Same design with minor upgrades. Day to day usage you can hardly tell the difference with their recent iPhone.

Folding iPad? Yes please.

Folding iPhone? Only if it's magically the same thickness folded as unfolded.

I can’t tell the difference between my iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 14 Pro Max I owned before it, and there was no difference between the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro Max I had before that. And on and on and on…

ive yet to see anyone at the locals shop unfold a phone to speak.
not a single person.

and the demo models in phone shops probably tell you why... C r Ea S eeeeeee.
Yuk.

instead of fitting a phone in a pocket, you double the width to fit it better?
we had the era of flip phones.
most phones seem to stay in hands as people walk around ignoring the traffic and other pedestrians...
We have two Z Flips and one Z Fold in our household. But after reading your post, I should doube-check, shouldn't I?😳

People who never had one should just stop speculating about them. People who have one, will most probably go for another one when the time for a new phone has reached.

Yeah - the inevitable crease is just tooo un-Apple. It might look fine on day one, but after a month's worth of use, it'll look poor.

I can see Apple doing some sort of rollable display over a foldable. Pull the ends of the phone and the screen rolls out an inch or two more... That would at least avoid a fugly crease!
Strange! The crease of my Fold 5 looks exactly the same as 8 month ago. Which Foldable have you tried for one month?

Agreed. I think there is something to be said for “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Just got a new iPhone 15 PM a couple of weekends ago. Didn’t really need to but my son could have used a phone update so he got my 11 PM. I would be pretty unhappy if the new phone behaved drastically different from the old one for my typical usage.

I always wanted one of those as well but I’ve heard they are temperamental. Good luck!

Thick and heavy are irrelevant.

There is, with current materials, no way to make a foldable screen that's even remotely acceptable quality. It's gonna have a giant ugly crease in it. Every foldable phone I've ever seen has one within a week. And then they start delaminating.

Stupid idea, do not want.

So it’s just the crease? What if they find a solution?

Just because you don’t want it doesn’t make it a stupid idea.

Vision Pro just came out with the best VR set on the market but somehow Apple is complacent.
