I think the Fold 8 (wide) will sway a lot of users who are fold curious. I think Samsung made the right call with the squared corners. The first fold had a slight curve on the corners, making it look asymmetrical. I know the Apple faithful live and die for symmetry, so not sure how they'll deal with this. I myself have to say, the asymmetry is too blunt for my liking. Nonetheless, rumor now has it, the Flip series will be dead after the Flip 8. So we might be looking at the Wide version being the default fold.
In Apple defense... I think their approach were iPad-focused than using it in folding form, when unfolding users will see a iPad Mini-like experience.

If Apple took features that exist on Galaxy devices (basically Good Lock modules)... I would definitely go for the iPhone fold, pick that up and Apple Watch. Then go for one of those dual-displays Windows laptop to replace the iPad.

Why would Samsung cancel the Flip line if I believe it's their best selling foldable?

Galaxy Fold Wide looking gorgeous lol

Having a tough time deciding what color choice I'm going with... but then again I plan on buying one of one those carbon fiber cases with magsafe built in. However, I'm naked until one shows up...lol

I don't need to read anything else about it or the 8 Ultra or watch the presentation in a few weeks. The Wide is an instant buy for me the second it becomes available for pre-order.

Yeah, it appears I'm going for the 512GB model again. Fold Wide price rumors leaked and I was hoping that it would start out at $1800... but Samsung decided to add an extra $100 to it (not sure why when it's missing an extra lens).

As I noted earlier 🙂, for the last 7 years early adopters got the 512GB model for the price of the 256GB, but now memory prices including storage has increased, we may not get that bundle offer this year

I'm glad to see the wide is cheaper than the ultra to account for lesser spec camera etc despite its new production costs etc over the Ultra

I may be wrong, but i think we are still getting that same deal... since both 256GB & 512GB have 12GB RAM. The price increase still came this year... if we wasn't in this situation, I firmly believe that Fold Wide would had started at $1800 instead of $1900 (while the Ultra would be at $2000).

It was going to be cheaper than Ultra... Samsung is using the Ultra brand to justify the extra cost. We all know it's the true successor to the Fold 7 and not much has been added, not many Fold 7 users will be upgrading to the Ultra.

And tbf, Fold 7 users upgrading to the Wide is in a odd position... the Fold 7 has a bigger display and a better main camera (200MP vs 50MP). But the new form factor will be the selling point and that's what Samsung plans to promote.

Just ordered a Z Fold 5 for a couple hundred bucks. I previously owned the Z Fold 2 and Z Fold 4 and quite miss them since switching back to iOS. The Fold 5 will not be on a data plan, for now. I can use it on WiFi and with my iPhone’s hotspot. This will hold me over until I like what Apple offers in the foldable department for a reasonable price.

I am ready to trade-in my Fold 7 for the Wide. Hoping for some nice early pre-order deals + corporate benefits discount. I don't care for the camera as I use my Oppo Find X9 Ultra for that but it will be neat to carry a more compact and even lighter foldable with me as a secondary device.

I hope the recent rumors about the crease being improved on both turns out to be true. Now if only they'd move that damn inner camera to the corner like OPPO

Someone working for a phone company on reddit (I know) said their Samsung Rep stopped by to introduce the new Foldable and the person answered to me saying the crease has not improved 😭 this news and the fact that they still stick to this annoying glossy inner screen protector (unlike Oppo for example) is a bit of a letdown

Did they say if it has S-pen support?

If I pull the trigger on this, I'll be getting the white one. I hope it's a pure white and not a cream color. If they made a candy apple red, I'd be all over that in an instant. As usual no case for me. I'll be using the thinnest clear wrap I can find for the back, and thinnest tempered glass protection for the front screen, but that's all I'm using for protection. My buddy made his own cardboard cut out to the Fold8 dimensions, and when I put it in hand, the size was not an issue at all. It's not compact like my Flip7 of course, but it still felt very compact. I'm someone that really appreciates the compactness of the Flip series, and I think anyone coming from the Flip series will have no problem transitioning over the the Fold8. I won't be surprised if this becomes the bigger selling model of the line up. Launch date can't come soon enough.
