Definite improvement in 3G signal strength

Using the field test mode, I can confirm that my 3G signal strength at my office has gone from around -52 prior to 2.0.2 to -97 today. I've been having numerous dropped calls from my office. I'll see whether the improved signal strength eliminates the dropped calls.

However, I have to say that I WAS pleasantly surprised by the improved signal!

mine is working good, have not braved switching back to 3g though haha

Dictionary entries now work for me though :)

did you say this backwards? -52 is better than -97....

Ha LOL, the fix from apple is to change the way the meter is showing, there by making you think you have more signal when you dont. "there that will fix it."

and they will never know:apple:

After the 2.0.2 update I have noticed that the battery life improved by 10-15%. I now get 4-5 hours of usage (Internet with WiFi and/or 3G plus listening to Music, Push On, Brightness auto) and about 12-13 standby hours. I find that ok.

Performance also seems to have increased as well as app startup times.
The contact app is still slow when it starts.
The phone now behaves differently when changing from 3G to Edge. At home I have a very bad 3G signal (tested with an Ericsson phone also...) and before the update the iPhone would change to Edge only when trying to download sth or by using the internet. Now the iPhone changes almost immediately to Edge unless it finds 2 bars 3G signal. It seems to me that the iPhone behaves more clever now.

I've noticed no difference. Still get crashes/freezes if I try to download anything from the App Store straight to my phone. And iTunes still doesn't launch automatically when I plug the phone in.

Actually, there is a difference. After the update, I started getting that SMS typing lag that I've heard others complaining about. It's only occasional, but I never had it before 2.0.2.

Service seems to be the same. Lag is still there occasionally when texting but not with contacts.

What REALLY annoys me is that my phone has just locked up twice in the last 3 hours. This has never happened to me before. The first time I tried to close Safari and it froze up on the iPod screen for some reason. Second time I just tried to switch menus and it froze on the home screen. This is really pissing me off.

Loaded, but it was dropping calls as before.

I did not see any difference. Calls was dropping with the same alarming rate. Youtube crashed for the first time ever.
I replaced it today. The new one came with 2.0.1FW. Everything seems to work fine. No dropped calls (fingers crossed). 3G speed is good. GPS is fast.
I would not load 2.0.2FW though. Will wait for 2.1 or 2.2, but will think twice before updating to any new FW.

One thing for sure, being one of the 2% is not much fun. If your phone calls drop too much - a replacement unit may be the only answer. The issue seems to be related to a specific samples and not wide spread.

Eh, never buy on 13th...

I've seen the interface get laggier since "upgrading" and my signal strength indicator for Edge (no 3G service here) is lower. I have a much harder time making and keeping calls now too.

Before the upgrade I was one of the 2%. Constantly dropping calls and a lot of "no service" messages. Since the upgrade I have not had one single dropped call or "no service" message, although I don't make that many calls per day. I have also noticed an increase in signal strength (bars), staying in 3G mode, and an increase in data rates based on testmyiphone.com. I got a 1.4mbps yesterday which is the best I've ever seen. I usually could only get about 700kbps (yes wifi was off) before.

Now I have another bug. Several times in the last two days I have 3 or more 3G bars but I can't load anything in Safari (get timeout). If I turn off 3G everything loads fine and I usually have to reboot several times to get 3G Safari working again. At first I thought this was an AT&T issue but today when it happened my friend was standing next to me and had no problems with his iPhone. Anyone else have this one?

So since everyone was having wildly different experiences I decided to install the darn thing myself and get a first hand view...particularly since I'm comfortable downgrading back to 1.1.4 should things get unbearable

It's only been 6 hrs-ish but I don't have contacts lag nor keyboard lag either both in safari (typing this from the phone) and the SMS app (tried to recreate this by typing very quickly but it registered all taps no problem). Although Safari seems a tad slower at loading pages go figure. The whole OS still has that lethargic feel to it sometimes but mostly it responds

There's still a very annoying bug whereby the ringer volume reverts to less than half from any custom setting after a reset/reboot.

All my apps work without a hitch...I played crash and tris without any issues as does email. My signal is as always been...full bars

Overall it seems ok granted it's nowhere near 1.1.4 but it seems doable...for now

PS- I have an iPhone EDGE 16GB...if that matters

It seems to me that I've been getting better 3G reception. Also, I've noticed that some of my apps seem to load faster. I still have SMS lag though.

I've noticed 2 things...

1st, the lag on the contact's is much smaller, virtualy no lag as of 2.0.2

2nd, if i turn my iPhone off and back on again i can go to settings, but after 10 minutes of having the iPhone on if i try to go to the settings nothing shows and i have to force quit the settings page, so, every time i'm on the street and i want to connect to a wireless network i have to restart my iPhone so that i can get to the settings page and connect... same thing to disconnect... this wasn't hapening with 2.0.1

After 2.0.2, successful connection to my wi-fi at home is almost impossible.

I've reset the router, re-entered the wep key, bla bla, even re-restored the phone...

The iPhone DOES see and connect to my wi-fi, i see the wi-fi icon on, but when i try safari, app/itunes store... i get that "can't connect to the internet" message

Did you just do an upgrade to 2.0.2? If so, try a full restore of 2.0.2

I def feel that it fixed the lag on the Contacts page.

I get a couple of Edge bars where I didnt get them before...

Not Much Difference - Yet

Updated my 2G iPhone with 2.0.2 yesterday, so it's still too soon to tell much. Not buyin' into the "snappier" thing, as I can always get that with a restore...which seems to be part of the update process. Other than that, I've only noticed one difference, but it's not a good one.

I noticed my email was stalling out earlier today - continually loading and never finishing, regardless of an EDGE or WiFi connection. Never had that happen before. Might be a network hiccup, might be a 2.0.2 thing, might be a "bit rot" issue ;) - hard to say. Worked around the problem by powering down and restarting, but that may just be a temporary fix. We'll see what happens as the days go by.

Other than that one little hitch, I don't see much difference...yet.
