That is assuming the iPhone will be announced on September 12th... My guess is still October. Too many times last year we hear July, August, September for the iPhone 4S reveal... And all the while, there were constant reports of it being in late October...

You forget that Jim Dalrymple said "yep" in response to the September 12th date. That as good a confirmation as you get, he knows of what he speaks.

Boy wouldn't I love that. I'd be so happy if these parts were leaked to throw people off. PLEASE BE FAKE!!!!!

rumored iPhone

I agree and would applaud if Tim Cook showed us a radically different iPhone vs. the renditions that have appeared. However, I suspect that we will just see a longer iPhone which gives us nothing really except another row of icons. I think they will hope that the new IOS will appease users but I for one will not be appeased. I use my phone for so much on the spot research, email and document creation that only a wider screen will suffice. Lets all hope I am wrong but I doubt it.:(

What is funny, is that Jonathan Ive was just quoted talking about how Apple focuses on great designs instead of profits... Yet, the purported design for the next iPhone is such a lame attempt to give us a bigger screen and a "new" design. It is lazy... not "Great"... Honestly, how much effort could have gone into that design?

Seems you're the type that is always looking for a redesign for no reason; may I suggest Android

Wrong... I never said there has to be one, I had no problem when the 4S was released. Just because I do not feel that they have to do a redesign, doesn't mean that what they are doing isnt lazy... because it is.

I am okay with the form factor of the iPhone 4/4S... but this only taller business, is just not for me. I do not like it at all. I have no care for an extra row of icons or for better video viewing on my phone. I want the same aspect ratio as the current phone with a 4.3" + screen, if it looked like the 4S, I would be okay with that.

I had a Galaxy S2 for work for 6 months, which I switched to a 4S in May. I did not like it, the extra features and customization did not do it for me. I could not get passed how it did not feel as smooth as my iPhone (even though it had better specs) and all of the apps I tried on both phones worked better on my iPhone.

Throwing around accusations of being lazy is lazy.

We'll see the sales figures and reviews when the phone is released and the dust settles. I strongly believe that 4.3" mini-tablet screens are not the bee's knees, it is not the screen that sells the Samsung GSIII (and similarly sized phones) but rather it's the GSIII that happens to come with a huge screen. Sales people at the stores, the price tag, and the "it's not an iphone" factor is what is selling those huge phones. We see that GSIII is selling like crazy, but we don't see the rate of return or rate of retention which Samsung has struggled with in the past.

The part in bold... confuses me.

Not liking the 4.3" + screens is your opinion, and many others agree with you. However, I like them, and a lot of people agree with me. I had a Galaxy S2 and I loved the 4.5" screen (Sprint). I just was not fond of the Android OS, and some other small details. I wouldn't mind checking out Jelly Bean some time, maybe with my next work phone.

Someone mentioned this on another thread, and i agree 100%... I really like having the mute switch. I do not like having to turn on my phone and toggle down the volume.

I would be fine if they did this...

Granted, that picture is either a gross over exaggeration to get the point across, or the "jumbo" might rival the Galaxy Note

Prepare for extreme disappointment on Sept 12. The leaked images are why I switched to the GS3 and couldn't be happier and I love Apple products.

When Tim Cook shows off the new iPhone and it looks exactly as you've been seeing for the past weeks, I'll have a poll up to measure how many people will be upgrading or jumping ship to another OS.

I am... I will stick with my iPhone 4S... I might pick up the GS3 for a test run, I did not like the GS2 when I had it, but couldn't hurt to try.

It is pretty easy to imagine my iPhone being slightly taller... with the iPhone 4 launch and the hate it received before it was announced. I was wrong about it when it got left in the bar. Those pictures were bad, and did not do it proper justice. But like I said, I can better visualize my phone being taller, and I have no desire for that. But there is a chance I could be wrong.

Hopefully, we get a different phone, and if not, hopefully, i grow to like it, or i will check out other options.

So 4.3" is a mini tablet now? You better notify Apply before they release the mini-iPad next month!

I agree that these 4.8" phones are really pushing the limits (if not breaking them), but 4.3" can hardly be considered huge.

I do think, though, that those accustomed to the square, hard-edged iPhone feel it would be terrible if expanded to 4.3" and up. And they'd be right. Every other smartphone manufacturer on the planet understands that you have to have nice rounded edges on larger phones so they are good to hold and pocket. The square edged iPhone would be terrible much larger (it's arguably terrible to hold now).

I would be very happy between 4.3-4.5"... as long as their is minimal bezel around the phone... that is why the GS3 gets away with a 4.8" screen.
Eh, I think the GS3 has too little bezel. I keep pressing the buttons accidentally when I use one. I prefer the Nexus size and design.

Figured I should put this into my thread... I think this iPhone Render the best from what I found in Google Images. I would love to see how they designed the rest of the phone.

The designer is Michal Bonikowski. Apple should hire him IMO.

Found the rest of his design, I want it:

This design is awesome.

I'd say 4.3 is the new minimum for phones now.

I'd say that's a bit larger to be the minimum size. After all the iPhone is still the best selling phone and it's a 3.5" screen.

4" should be a good compromise until software matures to the point were the jump to different screen sizes in iOS will be trivial.

I still haven't used a GS3 or seen one in person either, so I can only go off the pictures and my GS2 experience.

Your opinion seems to be that the only way Apple will make you happy is if they make a more rugged phone. THAT'S why you don't like the new design?

It all makes sense now.

Well if you're moaning because people are griping about the same design over and over again, then yes. You previously claimed that there is only so much you can do with a rectangular shaped screen, and I disagreed. If you think the previous iPhone design is perfect, you're wrong. That's why it's 1.) likely going to change and 2.) needs a case. Rugged doesn't have to mean ugly at all, just less fragile. I don't want to have to treat my phone like antique china.

What I said had little to nothing to do with the next iPhone, either. If we're basing things off those leaked designs? I actually like the idea of going taller, and it's really the only way they wouldn't get their pants sued off of them (I'd assume). I think it looks nice, but I'm uncertain about how much better built it is. Metal seems to be going backwards. I know how easily my Motorola RAZR picked up scratches.

I haven't even seen the next iPhone, how can I hate it?

Most people know the new one is coming each year, whether there are rumors or not... It has been like clockwork, a new iPhone each year. Sales will always drop in anticipation for the new phone.

My friends Mom, who is electronics challenged, even knew about the September 12th announcement rumor... How she knew, I do not know.

While I agree with you on the time iPhone time still, if you don't know anything beforehand and let's say you only find out the new iPhone on the day of announcement; there are a lot of people jump on it just due the hype/impulse.

Not they have enough time to see the iPhone leaks (I assume these are true) and they have more time to judge the product. If it comes out as is, they will not bother buying it.

So in my opinion the best option is not to leak anything or leak only vague stuff and let ppl buy on impulse...

If its a 4S on Viagra with an aluminum back I'll be getting an S3. If its all of the above without LTE, that will seal the fate.

I will be using an S3 when the new iPhone is announced so that I can get more money out of my old iPhone 4 (giving my 4S to my GF)... So if I am truly disappointed with the new iPhone, and I am happy with the S3, I will keep it.

ADDITIONAL: I plan to use the S3 and return it before my 30 days is up. Then get the new iPhone, unless I prefer to keep the S3... Which I doubt, but stranger things have happened.
