What do we do? What can we do? I'm shocked, disappointed, sad, angry, and helpless. Just a mix of emotions.

I cannot imagine using this UI everyday, I love my 4S and while I was dreaming of a Flat UI style iPhone.. i never expected this. This is not flat, this is plain, boring, amateurish, ridiculous.
I can design a better home screen in an hour.

There are so many things wrong with the UI, i don't know where to begin. I'd prefer the previous UI with the new iOS 7 functionalities, than this UI any day.

I always looked to Apple for design, but this is unexpected.
I'm considering sending Tim Cook an email, maybe everyone who feels the same way should too.

I'm planning on waiting for a jailbreak and I plan to use my own icons or use other designer ones in Cydia, but I really thought that I would never have to jailbreak again after iOS 7.
It's ironic, now i'll be jailbreaking to style the UI instead of the functionality of the OS.

If heavy skeuomorphic design is bad, then god this is the extreme on the other end. Where is the middle ground?

How are you dealing with this?

Have you seen this phone?

The UI looks similar to IOS. I'm maybe going to get this one.

I personally won't upgrade. But here's a problem those that have upgraded will have in common with those that won't upgrade.

(And those of you that have an Android device will be familiar with this)

Design fragmentation. Some of your apps will be updated to the ios7 UI right away. Some won't. Some will never update.

So you'll have a mess of icons on your screen, some following the new look, and others that'll have the old look.

It'll be even worse once you start opening programs and go from app to app.

It'll be awful...

I know what I will be doing. I will be going back to my N4 and using Google because it's obvious they have a better design sense now than Apple.

I've noticed that if you change the default wallpaper to something less candy/sugary like, the experience is a little bit better.

But those icons, ugh.

claiming that you can do a better job in an hour is great and all, but isnt going to do much for ya. Got a problem with the new look then let apple know.

(just a heads up... why not provide some insight on what you are envisioning)

I really don't like the new look.

iOS' UI what I liked the most about the operating system. Now they've replaced it with this UI that has an identity crisis, is it Windows Phone? Is it Android?

iOS UI looked beautiful. This new UI, meh...

Personally, I've lost all interest in iPhone 5S, knowing iOS 7 is going to be on it. On the other hand, while before I was not really considering Android or WP, now they are in consideration.

....... Talk about 1st world problems and losing perspective

There are many things in life that are worth being sad, angry, and feeling helpless... being laid off, losing a loved one, encountering violence, etc... a smartphone UI isn't one of them ;)

Please don't use the Lord's name like that :(

Great point, and thanks for the link, Bigboibbp.

I have just given Apple my thoughts and requests. Using that link is probably the most productive thing we could do, rather than ranting around here (which Apple may easily not see, but they may who knows).

i hate the fact that in, lets say mailbox, all the colors you see are white, black and blue (which is nice), Weather app also keeps colors to minimum but then when you go to home screen...oh sweet mama jesus it looks like a clown jizzed all over it.

and my morning is complete lol. It is weird to go very flat and plain, but use highlighter colors on the home screen.

The photos don't do iOS 7 justice. It's absolutely beautiful in motion and the fundamental user experience hasn't changed too drastically. Bravo to Apple on this

I for one think that the photos do more justice than the crap I've had in my hands for the last 12 hours.

I suppose we have different opinions then.

I like the visual direction that Ive is taking iOS, and I think that once his vision is fully implemented, we will all be impressed. It's not perfect yet, but I think it's a great start.

My exact opposite. I guess that makes it even. I actually feel that after 4 years I'm holding a new phone.

I hate it as well. I think we'll just have to wait. I see some potential in iOS 7, but it might take until iOS 9 before it's finally realized. Emailing Ive or Cook might do well, if we can barrage them. Something needs to be done; as far as I'm concerned, this was a cataclysmic failure.

I hope you are right and the final version this fall is improved.

The design needs more contrasts, my eyes get tired of so much white.

I like most of the new design aspects but a few things bother me coming from iOS 6:

- Animations - the way apps animate open from the homescreen in a kind of fading/expanding manner just feels weird and unpolished compared to iOS 6 (and yes, I know it's only a beta). Also the way the app folders now animate... it just feels clunky to me.
- Icons - I know this is already being discussed to death but some of the icons are just plain ugly (safari, settings and game center come to mind).

Other than that I'm a huge fan of things like the Control Center. We'll see how it pans out :)

Let's take a gander on what mistakes were made.

1. The design is truly a copy of Yahoo Weather App. This is good and bad. Bad because the icons they used instead of the Yahoo flat style are absolutely atrocious. I'm not sure they could have used the Yahoo Weather style icons because they appear to have no border and would clash with the third party installed icons. I think this is one decision that bit them in the ass when they decided on going the Yahoo Weather route. If this was the first iOS release, this would have allowed them to use the Yahoo icons as well.

2. Control Center is a foobar. Why do we have it? iPhone has great battery life and having quick access to those settings is nice but they are not something you really toggle on and off all the time like Android phones. Maybe I'm the exception but this feature I feel is not needed and comes across as uninspired/me tooish feature.

3. No new or true must have features outside of call and text blocking.

I also don't understand why they felt the need to throw out little jabs at Scott F. It's all subjective but his design of iOS 6 blows away iOS 7 currently, Android, and WP8. In fact, if I was a competing company, I would snatch him up.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. If so, we maybe witnessing the start of a decline. I truly believe Steve Jobs would have never released iOS 7 in it's current state.

Wow are people a bunch of whiners, really? Not everyone is going to like it. If you don't, stay on ios 6, get a different phone WHATEVER! Some of us are in love with it. It's not the end of the world and you're not gonna die, it's a damn phone.

btw I hate the gussian blur effect on notification center and control center

I'm considering sending Tim Cook an email, maybe everyone who feels the same way should too.

Go for it. Send one to every VP you can find an email address for. Can't hurt.

But be sure to frame it in terms they can understand. Don't use 'it's ugly' as your own reason as that can be dismissed as personal taste.

Talk about things like losing familiar ground for those not tech folks that make up the bulk of iPhone and iPad users. The ones that might be scared off from updating their current devices because they will have to relearn everything so they won't update and will lose all the stability improvements like battery memory and battery control. Just the change in icons so drastically is enough to keep them away before they even get to the rest of it.

Things like that are things that might make them think, rather than taking thoughts as a knee jerk taste issue

me too feel the same iOS 6 was more polished everything was really simple now the new look its too bright and cartoonish

couldn't agree more

its like now apple is trying to do things cuz other companies are doing it, for example they failed to consider the aged demographics who use iPhones,

this interface is confusing

question kind of off topic, now that I am active as crap on here testing ios7 and reporting bugs, its annoying getting a ton of email a day from here and going online to post, what settings do you all have for email notifications and what app is good for replying from phone vs going on site to do it
