Is there a functional reason to make the change?

Is there a functional reason to switch to the windows phone or some other crap phone look? Better battery life? Faster?
I do not understand why Apple would switch away from a beautiful looking ios to a copy of its competitors that barely sell any phones.
The colors and flatness/design reminds me of a toy phone and again many of the crappy phones that do not sell well.
Did the leaders at Apple discover pastel colors recently?
Does the new ios7 look really appeal to people on LSD/acid, pot or something?

I'd normally agree to this but problem is that many third-party apps will eventually need iOS 7+ to run.

Eventually a jailbreak will come out for iOS 7, and inevitably there will be a theme to make it look like iOS 6. Chances are, with the beta out the jailbreak team are working on a jailbreak for iOS 7 launch.

Yeah barely any Android phones are sold around the world.

Did I say the Nexus 4, new HTC, or Galaxy s4?
No.
I said cheap phones with one of OS/cheap poorly designed OS, and the ugly windows phone OS.
I still do not know why Apple would change to a ugly looking ios.

But you're talking about something that's in the eye of the beholder, and we don't know what the majority opinion will be. We'll find that out in the fall. Obviously their goal at this point is clear: please the majority. We have to wait to see if they've been successful or not.

people hated the new iTunes icon.

people hated the voice recording app icon.

i was one of those but i'm loving iOS 7 from the get go.

granted, the icons are something that i'm still learning to live with but i must say, it's familiarity is instant.

The US has a national debt of $18 trillion. A record number of people are living on welfare and just for fun, 90 million are out of the work force. You people are torn all to pieces of the freaking icons on a beta 1. Unreal

You'll learn in time that the world still spins, and your day to day life still goes on despite all of those things. Tomorrow, someone will be starving while someone else discusses drapery color. Your post is pointless. If you care to be absorbed by the things you mention, perhaps volunteer somewhere instead of getting on people on a tech forum talking about graphic design.

How do you know I don't volunteer somewhere? You know zero about me so rant on ;)

Read their posts while watching Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory...it's eerie. :D

Well... Regardless of what Apple does there are people who won't like it. I personally love it as it is now and can't wait. Only thing I can say right now is

"Cry me a river dude"

Chao

That was not the point I was making. Reread. I was saying who are you to fault anyone here for discussing lighter topics such as graphic design simply because the world is not perfect around them?

Imagine if Apple discontinued the black and white iPhones and only offered a model in bright pink. That's what Apple has done with their icons, IMO.

I want icons with masculine colors (or at the very least, muted shades).

Imagine if Apple took out the floppy drive?

I did read what you said but you missed my point. How about this idea: since this is a BETA 1 that Ives has been working on for a whopping 8 months, lets let him actually finish what he started before we crucify him??? How many threads are going o be started over the color of an icon?? Lol

IOS 7on the iPad like this.

You are naive to think any substantial changes will be made by release. Apple has never done that- especially with the current version of iOS 7 plastered on their homepage. Also, it's not just about icon color, it's everything: icon design, the color scheme for the whole interface, confusing text/ buttons, excessive use of transparency, and on and on. You seem heavily invested in a topic you labeled superfluous earlier in the conversation. If I thought it was absurd that people were discussing a change in the taste of Oreos on a Nabisco forum, I probably wouldn't be there to take part in the conversation for days on end... just saying.

Right, traditional wisdom would tell you that the betas rarely see any visual changes. iOS 7 is not traditional, though. It's arguably the biggest, most ambitious redesign of any platform I've seen (besides maybe Windows 8). Don't assume it's done based on past example. There's plenty of evidence to suggest more changes are forthcoming, though only time will tell.

The only thing I really dislike are the odd bits of frosted glass, especially for control centre. Why does this have a completely different style to notification centre? It seems disjointed and also looks horrible for the video controls and when adjusting the volume.
