I rarely upgrade after 12 months. But I thought about it briefly. I checked the battery life on my iPhone 15 Plus today and it’s still at 100%. I don’t care about AI - at least not at this point. The camera in my current phone is perfectly good for occasional happy snaps. I have “real” cameras for everything else. Therefore, I have dismissed any thoughts about buying any iPhone 16.

As of a few years ago I'm NOT on a contract, and since Best Buy is giving me $625 for my iphone 15 pro, It's hard not to upgrade for only $400-$500 and NO CONTRACT.

I have an iphone 15 pro max.

Previously had an iPhone 11. I still have my 11 in my drawer. But I plan to sell my iPhone 11 and iPhone 15 pro max.

And use the funds towards an iPhone 16 pro or 16 pro max.

But this will be my last upgrade. I normally only do it once very 3-4 years. It’s not a big upgrade to go from 15 pro to 16 pro.

The only way I can see myself upgrading to an iPhone 17 or 18 is if Apple puts a 10x zoom camera lol.

That’s a huge game changer for me since I do a lot of photos on my phone when traveling.

I do so much with my phone, I value having the most capable device in my hands. For something I use every hour of every day, especially with an upgrade plan, it's worth the few extra bucks a year to have that device always be the most state-of-the-art and feature-rich iPhone possible.

Some people value fancy coffee things every day, or the latest tennis shoes sponsored by their favorite athlete, steam or console games, or whatever. Some of us value having the best quality tools at our disposal.

Upgrading annually is a very easy decision.

I upgrade every year, why?

Order desert titanium, 512K. Pro Max

I would love a dark coloured metallic red still waiting.

I love my iPhone, l get use out of it every day.

When l die, anything over £325,000 left you have to pay 40% UK inheritance government tax on.

So l’m spending that 40% tax money now while l’m alive.

Not just phones l do it with, the older l get the more money l will spend. As l need less to live off. The ideal is to die poor LOL 😜

I have no family, it would be silly not too.

This is the only year I would not upgrade. I am simply because my kid cracked her 14PM, so I'm giving her my 15PM instead of fixing it.

I always go with the smaller Pro size, and this year I really want the 5x optical zoom. That's a feature I will actually use a lot.

And because I can.

Retiring at the end of the year. This will be the last tax deductible iPhone upgrade for me. As for the wife, I want to get her away from the lightning port. I am interested in the Camera Control button, longer battery life, and switching back to black this year.

I've upgraded pretty much every year since the very first iPhone but I'm struggling this year. There really is very little to justify the update from 15Pro to 16Pro or even make it vaguely exciting. I'm not sure I would even notice the update which is not a great incentive. For this reason I'm sitting it out for the time being. I may change my mind later but for the moment its a meh from me.

see you Friday morning when you preorder :)

I’ve gotten every new iPhone on launch day since the iPhone 5.

But this year I’m on the fence about upgrading from a 15 Pro. If I do upgrade right away it will strictly be because I’ve always done it.

Was a bit underwhelmed with the keynote today, especially with the amount of features that are coming to the 15, but Apple advertised it as a 16 feature. Have also already seen a lot of people pre-ordering and getting ready to upgrade to the 16/Pro from a 15/Pro.

If you’re doing this, I’m curious as to what it is about the 16 that won you over to pay for the upgrade?
because they can.
because they want to.
they can afford it to why not?
they are on 1UP so why not just keep paying?
they like the new colors?

i use my phone more than my mac! so many times hubby walks into out home office and i'm on my phone rather than the mac... he just shakes his head! lol!

Here is how I look at it...

I sell my iphone PM every year for $900 (I work at a phone store)
I get the new one for $1200 sooo that's a $300 investment I'm paying every year

$300/12 months is $25

$25 bucks a month to get the latest and greatest is worth it, we use these things every single day of our lives.

all depends on the person I guess and how much you value your phone.

I hate the 15 pro. Bad pics. Small. Bad battery. Want a slight tweak. Even size is enough for me. Colors boring.
I guess there be a significant upgrade if you constantly use the wide angle/macro and tele cameras by upgrading to the 16 pro, but I don't think the "bad pics" taken on the 15 Pro will magically be much better on the 16 pro.

Honestly, I have an M2 MBA and it’s collecting dust. My entire life is run on my phone.

Because it will cost me $200 with a trade in. Do I need it? no.

It's more like going with the program, which is 'next up' enhanced.

How do some of you annual upgraders get down to a net upgrade cost of $2-300? I’m upgrading from a 14PM 256 gb to 16PM 256gb and my net cost is $1,291CAD / $950 USD including tax and the trade in value of my 14PM. Even if I was upgrading from a 15PM I’d still be looking at a $600-650 USD upgrade cost at the very least. $2-300 seems impossible unless you’re getting absolute top dollar for your old phone and an employee discount on a new phone.

Att 'Next Up' (which is now called 'Next Up Anytime', and costs more, apparently) If you have paid off 50% you get the discount with a trade in. At least that's what they quote me. I can't verify the details. I pay for the 'next up', so like the cell contract, it sort of locks you in, or is an incentive. Next up was something like $6 a month. The new version is now $10, which is a huge increase, but there may be benefits. There doesn't seem to be any other options,

They have got you, that's for sure.

Ahh that makes sense if it’s tied to a cellphone contract.

I remember years ago when Rogers (provider in Canada) sold the iPhone 3GS for less than I sold my 3G for. I actually profited off the upgrade lmao
