Because I like new things, and it’s tradition.

I’ve gotten the new iPhone every year since the 3G, and preordered all the ones that were preorderable (4-16 Pro, except for 5s). For almost as long, my dad gets my old phone and if applicable, the phone he had goes to another family member, and so on. Then more recently, and older model gets traded in.

For example, this year I’m getting the 16 Pro. The 15 Pro Max I’m using now (only went Max for the telephoto) will go to my dad. Then the 14 Pro that was mine 2 years ago will go from him to my sister. Then the 13 Pro that was mine 3 years ago will go from her to an aunt. Then I’ll be trading in the 12 Pro Max that was mine 4 years ago. Or, we’ll bypass my sister and the 14 Pro will go straight to my aunt. It’s up in the air.

Anyway, I guess you could say I get a new phone every year so my family doesn’t have to. Haha.

Hand downs are a great way for a family to share tech. Great to read this. 😁

Part of iUp program (like getting a new toy each year) but went from the 15 PRO to the 16 PRO because of the improved Ultrawide lens and the longer telephoto lens. We shall see how impressed I am with Apple Intelligence (hopefully it will help Siri).

The more I think about the dedicated camera button the more I like the idea (I know Apple doesn't call it a button) as hand related disabilities make it difficult to snap a quick pic, here's hoping the "button" will assist with it.

Going from 15 to 16 Pro. 6.3” screen vs 6.1”. Camera button, action button, Apple Intelligence, Pro cameras, 120hz screen. A18 Pro chip, 8 GB RAM vs 6GB, longer battery life, titanium vs aluminum.

Lots of reasons to upgrade!

I upgrade based on the differences between models. This year was a much bigger upgrade than going from the 14 pro to the 15 pro. Titanium was the big upgrade last year and usb c. Big deal.

This year we are getting a partially redesigned phone with a bigger screen. The 6.3 size did it for me this year. Perfect size, still use it one handed.

I’ve been longing for a slightly larger than 6.1” screen but not so big as the Max. Hoping the 6.3” Pro is the “Goldilocks”.. just right.

I can do it for very little money on my current plan, and I'm jumping to the Pro Max from the regular Pro. First time I'm going with a giant phone.

I'm tempted to and it all depends on the battery life and thermals once folks get it into their hands and reviewers put the new phones through their paces.

My 15 Pro Max tends to get hot super quick outside and ends up dimming the display after a pretty short amount of time. If they have actually made some significant improvements to the cooling of the device, that will be enough for me to upgrade along with the better battery life.

I like new toys. Plus, I have 2 senior parents so I upgrade annually for myself and each of them gets a “new” (my iPhones are flawless since protected in case and ceramic screen protector, not dropped since I’m OCD- i’m one of the those who on the 7 ceramic coated the Jet Black finish) alternating every other year and I take the oldest iPhone and trade/sell.

Now that there are no more Costco VZW iphones- and we are on existing VZW family share plan with Disney Plus bundle + free Apple Music- it used to make financial sense when it was 24 month payment upgrade cycles, but now that it’s 36 months and VZW wants you to upgrade to the new Ulimate plan- another $10/month ($360 x 3 + taxes/fees), I decided to sell the 13 Pro to itsworthmore for $410 and buy unlocked iPhone from Apple with my Apple Care and keep my existing VZW plan.

I like shiny, new things. I just buy it outright from Apple each year. This year, my 15 PM will go to my wife to replace her 12 PM. Next year I’ll get the 17 PM and my youngest son will get my 16 PM to replace his 14 PM. I sell whatever they had for $300-$400 on Swappa or the Bay and then rinse and repeat each year with whichever kid has the oldest phone.

There's no compelling reason for me to upgrade my year-old 15Pro (100% battery) to a 16. That said, if the new modems are really better on the 16, I'd *maybe* consider it provided it improves my ATT coverage both outdoors and indoors here in DC/VA/MD.

I thought it was just me lol. I am on AT&T and live in Virginia as well about 3 hours from D.C. Sometimes the service can be slow or laggy. I am happy with my 15 pro but hope the 17 will have a better modem lol

Not trying to sound like a douche here but would disagree.

Going from the 15 pro to the 16 pro is a very minimal upgrade. It's just little improvements here and there and slightly bigger screens. The cameras are for the most part very similar if not almost the same. The overall user experience would be the same as well.

The biggest selling point of the 16 pro models is apple intelligence which is also coming to 15 pro models as well.

I would say last years 15 pro models had more substantial upgrades

- USBC
-Titanium body
-5X camera upgrade
-Action button
- Improved video recording that added log recording
- A17 chip that can play console-level games

But again 16 pro models seem awesome, especially for those with older phones.

Gosh, this thread made me realize how many different ways I use to “justify” the upgrade. It all boils down to this:

I like new technology, and my iPhone is the one tech item that goes with me [almost] everywhere I go. Could I get by without upgrading every year? Absolutely. It’s simply personal preference and excitement. 🤣

I’ll be up bright and early on the 20th.

Man I was watching the event so I can do a YouTube video on it. So I was hoping for something exciting lol. They gave me nothing to be hype over
