Can anyone confirm or deny that Apple can or cannot offer you an AT&T 2-year contract subsidized price for a reserved in-store iPhone 6S?

I reserved one for pick up at my local Apple Store with the hopes that I could get it on launch day and retain my 2-year contract / subsidized price.

Are you on an unlimited plan? If so then the "Mobile Share Value discount" does not apply to you. My message was specifically related to the unlimited plan, so if you are on another plan there may be a change in price depending on whether you have a phone on contract or not.

I am on the 450 plan with unlimited data. I didn't think it was a share plan, but the quote was under the details of my plan.

Its a fact that you can only do a 2 year upgrade via AT&T.
You will not be able to pay $199 for that 16gb iphone 6S for example if reserved at Apple.
You can only buy it for full price or via next payments or Apples payment plan.
The only way you can do 2 year subsidized upgrades from now on is via AT&T ONLY.

This is the way I understand the buying restrictions:

Mobile Share = buy from anywhere
Unlimited Data + Next = buy from anywhere
Unlimited Data + 2-yr contract with $450 subsidy = buy only from AT&T.com

I ordered from AT&T.com to keep unlimited data and renew my 2-yr contract because a rep at an AT&T corporate store told me the in-store POS doesn't even have the option for the 2-yr contract so there's no way to complete the transaction.
I doubt I'll get the delivery on 9/25 but I'll be patient (hopefully it'll be better than waiting for the Apple Watch delivery).

Can someone confirm this, about the POS in-store? I've always gone in the morning to a corporate store to upgrade via 2yr contract, and I intended to do that this year on launch day?

Give them a call.
Some stores don't do contract updates at all even though they have the ability to.
Falsely giving the sense to unsuspecting customers that their easiest and only option is to switch to next and mobile share.

I'm confused...and now seriously concerned after reading this thread. So I ordered my 6s plus through apple no contract commitment. You guys are saying that now I will lose my unlimited data plan because I didn't get my phone through att and didn't renew my 2 year contract? If that's the case I will cancel my order with apple as goto att store and get it from there.

No.
If you pay full price or with next you won't lose your unlimited data.
You will just not be able to use a subsidy and sign a 2 year agreement with Apple if you have a subsidy available.

I have a grandfathered unlimited plan. I wanted to buy the samsung s6 edge plus when it released, so I went to a corporate store. Said they couldn't help me, they only do that next garbage at their stores. If you still have a plan, you have to either order online or call them. I was pissed, did more research, and ended up pre-ordering the 6s plus. It's been years since I've had an iphone, had the OG, 3G, and 3GS, bought the 4 and returned it the next day. Antenna gate swore me off apple but that was then and this is now. I'm back baby.

I didn't have to ask anyone. I just walked into the AT&T store and saw the 2 year contract option listed next to the iPhones.

Think of it this way - no you didn't lose your UDP. No, you didn't get your phone subsidized. Yes, if you really wanted to, you could get another iPhone at a subsidized price, and be committed to AT&T for another 2 years. Better yet, you now bought your phone to allow you complete freedom in the "emergency" AT&T finally says "screw you all, UDP is done and over". If the specs on the iPhones are true, nothing will hold me back from trying any cell provider, even CDMAs.

Wonder will this year be the last for subsidized phones/2 year contract for AT&T.. If so, I might consider giving up the grandfathered UDP and the family plan and switching over the Mobile Share IF AT&T will pay off the ETF... lol

I remember when they first introduced the Mobile Share Data, they were allowing anyone who had contract to switch over without having to pay ETF..

Nope, well documented as well

Never heard of that. I never had a problem using a 2 year subsidy in a corporate store.

We have a 4 line family plan each with unlimited data. Since we all use a lot of data it still wouldn't be worth switching to MSV even if AT&T stopped 2 year subsidies.

AT&T tech told me that 2 year plans are DEFINITELY on the way out.. This is likely the last year.

LOL techs do not make whole scale company wide changes. She also probably meant for new customers. If att forces everyone onto next or whatever the hell it's called they will lose a lot of people once these people find out their bill would most likely go up.

Okay, here's the deal

The att next plan isn't much different from the two year contracts in terms of what you pay. You can STILL keep your unlimited data plan if you have that already.. THAT is what's not going away.

You have an extra payment with your monthly service plan but you're not paying anything out of pocket to get the phone, (except the tax) AND activation fee was lowered to $15 on NEXT..

It's only more expensive if you want a phone every year instead of every two years, but if you're wanting a two year contract anyway, it's not going to make any difference.

I posted this quote refuting that allegation on another thread on which you posted. Please do not perpetuate false information.

“I think [the two-year contract] is one of those options that is going to go away slowly, not because we insist on it, but because customers will choose it less often.” Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO of AT&T Mobile and Business Solutions, June 2, 2015

First of all, Where do you get off suggesting I'm perpetuating false information? Secondly, your interpretation of the CEO comments are no more valid than mine.

What is he saying?

...one of those options that is going to go away slowly because customers will choose it less often...

So what?.. the option is slowly going away, according to the quote you posted.

This year, it's only available at AT&T website.. NOT from Apple.. not even from AT&T corporate stores. Next year it likely won't be available anywhere based on the best information I've been able to ascertain. That's a 2 year tiered discontinuation, and 2 years is "slowly" by any definition. According to the quote, a careful reading suggests as soon as a majority of customers switch away, the two year subsidized plan is history. Do you think it will be available beyond next year after the vast majority have made the switch to a different option? That's inconsistent with the quote. You can have a different opinion but that doesn't make you correct.

The CEO quote is in no way inconsistent with anything I posted, and I've spent a long time chasing this story over several days from multiple AT&T sources.

I don't know why you keep posting your nonsense guesses as facts and posting "definately" going away.
Nothing is solid or final unless it's officially announced.
Period.
