Still waiting on my larger silicon iMac… maybe this spring
I agree, and would say that offering a higher performance Mac Mini without introducing the larger better performing iMac would be a mistake. Even if the iMac is not available for a reasonable period of time, these two are key alternatives that many will want to evaluate and should have specs and timing to inform buying decisions. I hope the iMac is at least announced if not immediately available.

Apple doesn’t even publish processor speed, leave alone further specs for their SOCs… 99% of Apples customers don’t care about those specs, why would they cater to the MR techno folks in the way you and others make things up based on rumors?
Even Intel called it an i7 or whatever just that the technically interested actually could look up the specs and Apple just referred to them as 8th gen, 9th gen etc…

so why would Apple start differentiating the way you describe? I just don’t see that happening, and if they do, I’ll stand corrected
Apple has specified, for years.
iPad 3 from 2012: Apple specified that it was an A5X, with a quad core GPU.
The current MacBook Air let’s you choose between a seven core GPU and an eight core GPU.
And either way, this is all besides the point because Apple doesn’t give the same architecture a new number.
A12, A12X and A12Z all had the exact same architecture, yet they kept the same number for two years.
M2 Will be for the MacBook Air and 24 iMac.
Also for the record, Apple does specify on their Intel machines what has an I5, I7 and I9

I’ve already got an M1 MacBook Pro, but even I’m pretty excited to see the direction these macs are headed. More excited for the macs than I was the iPhones by far.
Really underwhelmed by the phones and pads. Really looking to for that m1x mini.

The m1 is exciting but I always assumed the next version would be out a month or 2 later.

I always enjoy watching Apple's events. Their production values are fantastic.

I really want to get the Watch 7 and AirPods 3.

It would be odd for the MacBook Pro not to have ProMotion considering it’s a more useful feature on MacBooks than iPhones
I think it might be actually slightly less useful:

The reading on computer screen happens just as you do read a book -> from left to right (even when window is no maximized).

On smartphone you tend to scroll much more since display is much smaller and there is a tendency to always have the text you read closer to the middle of display. Scrolling happens more often and it is “quicker”.

I will be glad to have all devices having 120 Hz screens for sure. Time will tell where it is noticeable more often.

I will be waiting for the high end Mac mini. I want to replace my ageing Mac Pro 2013. My wish is for:
32GB RAM or more
1TB SSD or more
4K@60Hz support for 2 monitors
A higher refresh rate than 60Hz would be appreciated. In decades past, 85, 100, even 120Hz was standard. After LCD panels arrive, 60Hz became standard and people some how forgot about higher frequencies. 4K @ 120Hz for 2 monitors would be sweet.

Whatever you do, turn off OS auto update on your Macs. Apple software no longer safe at launch.

Or a large iMac 27” and 32” with 5K display. But no fan or vents so that dust cannot get into the screen!

120Hz would be nice, but expensive. I stare at code all day, so 60Hz is plenty for me.

Apple has standardized the ppi for the 27” iMac, the 24” iMac, and Pro Display XDR. All have 218 ppi. They are not going to reduce the ppi for new products. Therefore, you will not see a 5k resolution on a larger screen than 27”. Let’s hope for a 6k iMac with a screen the same size as the Pro Display XDR.

Surprised there is still no larger iMac Apple sillicone planned atm. it makes sense they released smaller weaker version first, but if they are planning to bump-up a new MBP, I guess 27 (or 30 inch) iMac with M1X (M2) would be the next logical step. Personally most interested in the Mac mini (pro) thing, but also very curious how the new MBP will look like.

I think a re-designed Mac mini sounds very interesting!

Feel it's to move on from my Mac Pro from 2010 which runs Big Sur pretty well (I know only up until Mojave is officially supported) albeit with some caveats. :)
Yeah, my 2 x quad 3.0 GHz MacPro 1,1 flashed to 2,1 is becoming more and more problematic. Yesterday something happened that killed my RAM, the same day I was troubleshooting why so many of my websites weren't loading. Well it turns out the website issue is due to an expired SSL certificate, on old OSes that are stuck on SSL 1.0.2 or earlier... like my Mac Pro with OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan. It's working now though after I forced Keychain Access to trust the certificate.

Regarding the memory, my FB-DIMM memory with the great big heat sinks has become unstable. Maybe it was problematic for a while now (since I haven't been pushing the Mac Pro hard so I may not have noticed) or maybe I zapped it when I was checking out the machine's internals trying to troubleshoot the website issue.

I'm now running third party server RAM with small heatsinks and that really gets the fan going. I was considering buying more RAM, but new good quality FB-DIMMs are bloody expensive, and used RAM is iffy. I may be better off just waiting to see if Apple releases a new Mac mini next month.

I don’t expect that Mac mini will come cheap…not to mention the added cost of a display, speakers etc.

If you’re looking for a powerful desktop, you may be better off waiting for the larger iMac in the spring of 2022.
A Mac mini... with more ports... would be perfect to replace my Mac Pro.

Well, not quite perfect. The one major issue is that Apple has killed subpixel anti-aliasing, which means that later OSes don't look so nice on my Apple 30" Cinema HD Display.

A new Mac mini with 6 TB4 ports would be smashing. Or even a MacBook Pro with 6 TB4 ports which would be a big upgrade over the current one where I am needing to daisy chain or just swap TB3 devices as and when I need them.
I was considering using my 12" MacBook to replace my Mac Pro, since I don't use the MacBook much (as my primary machine is a 27" iMac) and speed is not of the utmost importance here. However, I personally find using a laptop as a desktop replacement kinda annoying. It's even worse with the MacBook compared to other laptops, since it has only a single USB-C port (plus headphone jack), meaning to do anything with it requires third party dongles. I just want a true desktop with lots of ports.

I'm curious how much more a Mac mini with more ports (and faster SoC) would cost compared to the current M1 Mac mini, since truthfully the M1's speed is enough for my needs, as is 16 GB. The problem with just 4 USB ports is that I'd need one for the 30" Cinema Display leaving me with 3 left, which would be fully populated. 6 USB ports would be good and would mean I wouldn't have to resort to complicating matters with a hub. Even better though would be to get a DisplayPort 2.0 port alongside that HDMI port.

The new MacBooks should knock it out of the park, if our expectations are reasonably met. I don’t see them releasing a new Mini or large iMac this year though — just because of the supply issues. The 14” MacBook will probably be the most popular, but I’m going for the 16”. Incidentally, the Intel version is showing late October ship date right now.

Would love if they had something sleeker similar to the iMac Pro... and definitely am hoping for a prosumer display to pair with a redesigned Mac mini. The first time I've been very excited for a release in many of years!

It cannot be overstated how necessary it is for Apple to get Pro Apple Silicon out into the market this fall. It also cannot be overstated how much a Mac Mini that is designed for Pro Apple Silicon would be appreciated.

I haven't been waiting for any of those five things. The two things I want to see are: 1) New large-screen iMac and 2) New Mac Pro that doesn't cost an arm and two legs.
Nice, but be ready, that these things will cost...

I personally don’t know anyone who’s been asking for an iMac made of sillicone

That new MacBook Pro had better be hitting a six on launch… I’m waiting patiently to upgrade.
Let’s hope M1X or whatever the marketing team call isn’t just one extra core! If we’re talking 32gb, 2TB and pi@&ing all over a high-end intel laptop I’m in.
